Found the perfect spot for an extinguisher

Mine fits perfect. there are 2 screws underneath the cup holder mat that you can use to hold down a bracket.

enjoi23 08-24-2012 09:08 PM

you should make a plastic or rubber cover for it so it isn't so noticeable.

oops86 08-24-2012 09:39 PM

Holy ****. That's PERFECT!

Superhatch 08-24-2012 09:49 PM

Really?

RazBRZ 08-24-2012 09:57 PM

I need to have an extinguisher installed and within reach of the driver for the hill climb I'm doing tomorrow.
I didn't want to drill into anything and I almost forgot about it. I just happened to find those 2 screws under there after I saw it would fit.
This way it is easily removed and you can put the cup holder and mat back in and it's like it was never there

diirk 09-24-2012 06:56 PM

Can you provide any info on your extinguisher? It's a perfect fit.

neutron256 09-24-2012 07:19 PM

If only I didn't value a cup holder over a fire extinguisher!

diirk 09-24-2012 08:31 PM

I would only use it when required for a track day. Other wise the cupholder would be installed

Mitch 09-24-2012 08:35 PM

That's amazing. I hope that was intentional on the part of the designers.

First Alert
Dry type B&C
Model FE5GR
2.5lb... 4lb total, I think
about 12" high and 3" wide

I can't remember where I bought it

diirk 10-02-2012 09:23 AM

RazBRZ, thanks again for the idea.

Ran to Wallyworld yesterday and picked up a Kidde Auto Fire Extinguisher. Same dimensions as yours. Ran $14.00

I made a mounting plate out of 3/16" aluminum. 5" x 4.25". Drilled and countersunk for the extinguisher mount and drilled for the armrest bolts. I ended up using some longer bolts that I had to mount the plate.

Very clever! I'll hafta remember that if I get to take my future BRZ to a hillclimb or HPDE.

RazBRZ 10-02-2012 11:27 AM

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot about the longer bolts :bonk:.
Looks great, I'm glad people like the idea

If I wanted to take the time, or if someone decides to mfg a mount like this. It's easy enough to dimple the metal down enough to MAYBE use the stock hardware. I think I ended up using something approx. 1" long. I'll get a pic of the mounting plate and hardware when I get home.

You won't be saying that the day your drinks spontaneously burst into flames.

Good thinking OP. Would work great for track days. Or a cheater nitrous bottle. ;)

diirk 10-02-2012 04:36 PM

or a pony keg....

Touge Factory 10-02-2012 04:49 PM

hahaha... that is a perfect fit.

RallySport Direct 10-03-2012 12:52 AM

Wow that is awesome, I would have never expected to literally be a "Perfect fit". Good job! :)

Thanks,
Rick

lol...

i guess that thing will only work when the car is already on fire...

and the fire will cause that thing to Blow...which will put out the fire of the already blown car.

:D

gwascopter 10-03-2012 04:36 AM

it's like putting a bomb right next to you.

diirk 10-03-2012 09:11 AM

Here's a couple more pics showing the plate with the bracket attached and showing the unit assembled.
Ignore the slots on the side of the bracket. This was scrap material I had laying around. In this case, it's part of a 3U panel blank for a computer rack.

I'd like to think the spot was designed for NOS. :burnrubber:

RAWR BRZ 10-04-2012 02:51 AM

Gonna go try this out :)

You know these things have a quickrelease clip, right? And that the brackets are made of high tensile but flexible metal?

.. also to the guy who says "it's like putting a bomb next to you", seriously, by the time this goes bang you're reeeeeally dead. Like very, very dead.

While any fire extinguisher is better than none.
I have some experience with car fires.

a 1KG fire extinguisher will be out of juice before you even get started.
get a 2KG with a nozzle as you will be able to poke the nozzle to where the fire is (you dont want to pop the hood to get at a fire as the hood will be too hot to touch and the latch too hot to operate, and it takes too long.

get one like this
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...guisherABC.jpg

and aim the nozzle up to the engine bay from underneath the car. much better plan. might save your motor.

Camotec 12-29-2012 10:41 PM

FYI - Fire Extinguishers do not go bang and they don't blow up like a bomb. Every new extinguisher has a plastic release valve so in a fire the plastic release valve will melt and release the charge in a controlled manner.

wbradley 12-30-2012 10:41 AM

Dyno results?

EBMCS03 12-30-2012 08:23 PM

Hahaha! I bet it was designed for an extinguisher! LoL No way it fits that well

ZionsWrath 11-16-2013 03:24 AM

There must be a good way to fabricate a bracket to the passenger rear seat bolt? and much more room to run larger size and still in easy reach. I guess it might get in the way if you actually have a passenger though...

Nhan55nguyen 04-04-2017 10:17 PM

Did you use the bracket and step that came with the unit? Or was that extra?
