What shape is your BRZ in currently?

I bought my 2018 M6 back in 2019 with 100 miles on it. It was a leftover that didn't sell and the miles it did have was mostly from employees driving it home.

It now has 125k miles and I have never had a single issue with the car. I do all service myself. The oil is changed every 7-8k miles. It still has the factory clutch which is still in good shape with no slippage. Still has factory front pads which still have 50% life. I may be wrong but I believe it still has the original battery. If I changed it out I dont remember. Currently getting 33.5mpg.

What current shape is your car in currently and what issues have you had with it if any?

I thought my 2017 performance pack in late 2019. Original owner bought it in CA, moved to TX, and traded it in at a Jeep dealership in OH where I picked it up. It's now in PA and stored during winters. Zero rust. It's also been Fluid Filmed since I got it just in case.

Bought at 26k, now has ~48k, about 5 years later. I do a lot of autocross events in it - about 25 per year.

Brake pads were replaced and upgraded. Rears were almost on metal. Original rotors.

Suspension was changed out with coilovers for racing. No issues with the Sachs dampers. Rear control arms also replaced for camber purposes.

The battery apparently was replaced in 2019 before I got it. It started leaking again in 2024, so I upgraded to a lightweight AGM one.

Clutch is still good, but I'm mentally preparing for it to start slipping at some point with ~200 autox launches per year... for 5 years now. Probably has close to 1,000.

Oil gets changed about every 2k or about every 15 autox events. Oil analysis was average. Not bad, but not great. Trying out 5w-30 and seeing if it changes. I was using 0w-20 Motul Ecolite originally.

I did unfortunately get a dent in the rocker panel from what I think is a cone now after reviewing some video about a month ago. It's getting pulled out this coming Monday hopefully. It's not terrible and it's underneath, so you barely see it. Fingers crossed it pulls out fine.

It does have some rock chips on the hood, bumper, and fenders in the front. Subaru paint things. It's my major gripe with these cars. Another gripe is the kinda clunky 1st to 2nd gear shift still everyone complains about. The gearbox feels clunky in general if you're not shifting at 4k or above.

Overall I'm pleased. I'll likely do coolant and spark plugs here next year in the spring. Just did clutch fluid this weekend along with the rear diff and transmission fluid again.

14 bought @ 2K mi, daily-ish driver now @ 141k-ish, tune w/ catless headers & exhaust since about 30k. replaced clutch & redesigned TOB about 80k w/ fresh transmission & diff oil, battery replacement once, still on original brake pads but i think thats coming up soon. plans to replace spark plugs, timing chain & fresh coolant next time it goes for a major repair.

body is beat up, rear bumper from dragging bikes on a trunk rack, have since moved on to hitch bolted to bumper. hood roof & trunk from multiple hail storms or limbs falling during the epic ice storms, 3 cracks in windshield from rocks getting flung up. engine bay dirty as hell.

likely go gen 2 when motor pops or gets totaled out.

That's crazy if the battery is the same from 2018. Mine is a 2017 and I'm on my third battery. Especially with 125K miles, that's kinda crazy. I have about 80-85K miles on mine. Batteries last about 3 years, but it is winter driven and I am in Canada.

Im in NC. I swear I think it is the original battery because I have no recollection of changing it.

What kind of gas mileage is everyone getting?

AJ32162 05-15-2025 06:30 PM

Mine is still showroom new. Bought it on December 28, 2018 (2019 Model) and it currently has 4,367 milies. It still has the original battery which is kept on a battery tender.

Dang, any particular reason for not driving it?

The Red One 05-15-2025 09:20 PM

Just had to get me one after trying out my brothers WRB 2015.

Its my summer car & make do cross country RV camper every few years ...
Resting from end of November to 1 st of April.

Mods: pretty much unmolested except for some RED pieces.

God I love to start it up after them 5 boring months ! (besides the skiing!)

Driven since April 2019 at 135Km (84K miles) of summer fun.

Never changed the brake pads yet. Fuel pump recall was done.
Plugs changed, mostly dealer serviced although they keep pestering me for the past 3 years
for battery(failed test), tires, wipers, brakes and cabin filter I cant see a reason why I should....

Battery is functional (driveway is on an incline why worry?) , wipers don't streak, last time
I checked the pads look as thick as the replacements I have been procrastinating to change for the past year or so... Tires are not rusting.. 2 yrs old
Bonus :cabin filter is same size as my other year round fateful. So I can stock up when they go on sale.

A few door dings collected that buffed out quite fine.

The ouch:

My street got redone 2 years ago and just after they made the (high)curb and before they repaved
I tried to short cut out of the driveway one dark early morning and ripped off the Bumper cover... got a quick fix done for 10$

...just noticed that my Key fob battery may be dead, just so happens I just picked up quite a few these last summer for my numerous bike speedos!

Too many cars and not enough time. I spend six months in Scotland (Summer) and six month in Florida (Winter). It doesn't get driven much when I'm in Florida.

20 tS 46k, edelbrock sc and delicious flex fuel setup. Roasted through factory clutch last year. Been through a set of tires and pads. Front sti lip has some cracks. Two wheels have some rash.

Otherwise it rips and I’m happy to walk up to it when it’s clean, full of gas, oil changed, and I’m confident to go tear around.

RToyo86 05-16-2025 06:48 PM

Got my 2017 new spring 2018, it was leftover stock. Now has 178,000km(about 110k miles)

Ran like a top the entire time. TOB was pretty tired around 130k, changed it as preventative and refreshed the clutch while taking trans off.

Use it near everyday, rain, snow etc. looking forward to another 100k.

Mine is currently sitting on jacks awaiting a shock rebuild. The car is doing great though. Bought it coming up on 2 years ago with 135k miles, I'm at 148k miles now. The engine was replaced at some point prior to my ownership. In my time, the only issues I've had with it are one of the rear wheel bearings was bad (I knew about it when I bought it), and an axle seal was leaky. Otherwise the car has been amazing. It's seen probably 25 autocross events, and been driven halfway across the country. I remember debating buying this one because of the miles, but it felt more solid than examples I had driven with half the mileage.

Bought mine during Covid with 13K miles. Im at 70K miles and since last year, autocrossing.

NoHaveMSG 05-30-2025 02:48 AM

Both of my BRZ’s are car shaped.

My 13’ I bought in early 16’. It is now a track rat. Biggest issues I have had is keeping front hubs in it. Otherwise it has been solid except for my spare engine kicking a rocker arm and throwing a rod. OG engine has like 100k on it and runs great.

My 15’ I bought with a spun rod bearing and a JRSC and has been a bit of a basket case due to the previous owner(s). It should be sorted shortly.

Bought my ‘13, brand new, only 43,000 kms approximately now. Mainly a weekend toy car, still great fun with bolt on mods. Car is “complete”, for now and in good condition. No plans on upgrading anytime soon.

Bought my 15 in 21 with 18k, up to 122k miles as it's parked in the hotel lot now. Dailied year round with some of the load spread across a couple bikes when it's not freezing.

Body generally in good shape aside from a couple hail divots and the touched up rock chips on the front. Engine in good shape with general maintenance, and fresh 0-20 every 5k. Been on E85 since 38k only switching back to gas a couple times on road trips where it was unavalible. Only non-maintenance services was a TOB at 90k and I threw a new exedy clutch (original lives on the shelf as it's still got another 90k in it) at it so I don't have to drop it again for another 100k.

33 mpg on gas, 25 on e85 with 215 tires, 23 on e85 with 225s.

Bought my '16 in '16 with 6 miles on it. As soon as the factory warranty was up, I added the Cosworth supercharger to it, plus poly bushings, oil cooler, SouthBend Stage 2 clutch and JDM lighting. Took a job traveling for 3 years and hardly drove it. Quit my job and found that the ported injectors were clogging, and the fog lights and DRL on the front had cracked at some point and let water in. Replaced the injectors, added Diode Dynamics yellow fog lights, polished up the headlights and replaced the fuel filter. It runs great and gives me no problems. Many times I will take the long way home just to keep driving it. Only issues are minor rock chips on the nose, clear coat is pealing on the rear wing which was caused by the Subaru car cover I used to have wicking moisture onto the paint, and the driver's seat has split on the sides from sliding in and out all these years. Has about 300 HP and still gets 31mpg if I'm easy on it. Recently switched to 5w-30 oil which I should have done long ago.

Bought mine new in 2020, it has currently just over 6800km on it. Its so close to being in perfect shape that its not funny. I've literally washed it more than filled it with gas

its just a fun car to take out when its nice and we don't need more room(passengers, dogs, kayaks etc)

Mods in sig. I do drive it hard, but no abuse. Quality fluids etc

Edit, also a Perrin intake pipe and my own custom work on the airbox and inlet snorkel. I also remove whatever I can to drop weight, such as those horrible steel injector covers. I made a small aluminum bracket for the PCM.

Hey Everyone. First post. Been lurking awhile.

Bought the BRZ for my Wife in September of 2017. 2017 BRZ Premium, AT. Wife can't drive a manual, but was adamant about a BRZ over the 86. Started the search in early 2017, and finally cornered an AT version at a local dealer. If it were an 86, the search would have been easier.

Picked it up brand new with 41 miles on it. So it was either test driven a lot or a dealer swap. We do not know, didn't ask. It's been a great commuter for the Wife. I was rarely driven the first year of ownership. Wife started to daily it end of 2018. 2020 pandemic hit and it was driven sparsely until 2022. Currently sitting around 49k miles. It's on its 2nd battery and 2nd set of tires. All stock. It's got some bumps and bruises along the way. The worst is a crack on the front bumper cover from hitting a piece of sheet rock on the freeway. Impressed with the stock windshield. Lots of rock chips over the years, still wearing original glass. Front of the roof is oxidizing a bit. Otherwise, it has held up well. 8 years in, we are thinking about replacing it this year.

My 2013 is still in superb shape inside and out. I almost have 28k miles on it, which isn't much given my daily commute is only 4 miles to work. I should take some new photos of it. Here's my old thread: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43402

One is getting a new engine (spun a bearing). The other is getting an entire fuel system overhaul and upgraded oil cooler.

(they're both dedicated WRL/Endurance cars)

Hoping to have both running next weekend.

2017 BRZ Premium, purchased new April 2017 with 6 miles on the odometer, $26K OTD. Still teaches me something new every time I take it for a drive.
(Photo June ‘26. 100% stock except for Michelin PS4s tire replacement in 2024 at ~20k miles.)

sly 07-24-2026 10:48 PM

My 2016 was also purchased with 6 or 7 miles on it. Looks like yours is holding up pretty well. Mine still looks pretty good. It has a little bit of clearcoat peal on the rear wing but the rest of the car still looks pretty new. Interior wise, I had to replace the cover on the E-brake and I have some minor flaking on the driver seat where I slide across the seat getting out of the car. Everything else is holding up very nicely. I have about 112,000 miles on it if I were to guess. I put the Cosworth on it at around 30,000 miles and it has performed flawlessly. No issues with the car at all. Might get the rear wing resprayed soon, though...

Oh, and the headlights... The clear plastic is yellowing across the top edge. I took them out and refinished them last year with a headlight restoration kit and now they are yellowing again. I didn't want to spend the money to buy new headlights but I eventually may have to.
