Direct injector seals?

Would this be the direct injector seals? I just had them cleaned (CSG) so I’m inclined to think I messed one up in reinstallation. But, mine sounds like rocks hitting the firewall and examples of the direct injector seal noise sound much louder.

I would think that bad DI seals would have a more rhythmical and less a mechanical sound. What does it sound like under the hood?

It’s hard to get it to make the sound without a load, so I’ve yet to hear it from under the hood.

I do think it’s getting worse, so I guess maybe I’ll be able to hear it while revving without a load soon.

Yeah, sounds like DI seal.

Gracias. I think it’s gotten worse so I’m going to try to confirm this week with my stethoscope thing.

Any advice before I start the job? I put the injectors in, but they were redone by CSG, so I didn’t have to mess with seals last time.

Also, I’m pretty sure I screwed something up, because I just put the redone injectors in around mid-June and I’m already having this issue.

Before you installed them, did you put the injectors in the freezer?

If freezer is good, would dry ice be better? Do you think it could make the seals too brittle?

Nope. I read about that, but they went in pretty easy at room temperature. I’ll do the freezer trick next time.

The seals are supposed to stay low on the injector and ride up into the tapered area only after installation. The freezer trick hardens them long enough to keep them in place during insertion. If they get nicked even a bit, game over.

It's an extremely delicate operation normally performed with a special tool.

Huh, can you direct me to that special tool? Might be worth picking up.

This is where I get confused. Is there a special tool for inserting the assembled injector into the cylinder head? Or are you talking about the SST for installing the seals to the injectors?

I had the injectors cleaned and new seals and o-rings installed. I did not install the seal to the injectors. In fact I had all eight cleaned because I ran E85 in the car for about 70k miles.

Can you recommend a good video on the process? Without the visual I keep getting confused about what part of the process is being discussed.

The tool aids installation onto the injector. I see how I wasn't clear about describing that.

Thanks, I was looking for an endorsement. This is my first DI car, so I’m not sure who knows what they’re talking about and who is just repeating things they saw on Reddit, you know?

I should have guessed CSG Mike would be the expert!

Nah, don’t worry about it. I really didn’t want to have to acquire another sst.

I got hooked up with a pretty good thread, so I think I get how this is supposed to go now.
