1/1 TRD 14r in the UK (I think)
Here is my imported Japan-only TRD 14R, a road going version of the TRD 14R60 track car, modelled on the TRD Griffon that lapped Tsukuba in 0:58:407 with only aero and non-engine related mods. It has come with a few mods on it, the dealer-added TRD wing, LED light upgrades in the interior, feels like a TRD short shifter and i'll add anything else I come across.
https://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/uploa...5393a9f253.JPG After over a year of ownership, I have finally got the first few mods on the car, and also uploaded a youtube video with some how to's on there - please take a look if interested. In the first video I have done a walkround of the car and installed the following, (TRD oil cap, rad cap, fuel cap, gear knob, document holder and Perrin boot closer), which I feel like the car should have had anyway! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/sz7cv...sinj8fn1&raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t4p8j...njf29ny2&raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9y1ee...n9giuv58&raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/3tmr8...vrqeuzu7&raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/eoi4l...29mtof8i&raw=1 and if anyone can help me find one of these, please let me know https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8w44e...cny2inm3&raw=1 Here is the youtube video https://youtu.be/EgiC_FtwDQ8?si=EaWpkYZwZF_L6dFw |
Where did you order the knob and oil cap from ? Nice video btw subbed to the channel that 14r is super cool!
|
Ah thank you very much! I have been stock piling parts for years, but I got those from an AU ebay store called Japex Trading, I did a large bulk buy from them

Always love to see a 14r/14r60!
Excited to see for what's to come and the TRD stamp on the door sill is neat. Didn't know they had that but really cool to see. |
Continuing on with some of the smaller jobs, I have installed a TRD strut brace, TRD battery clamp and USDM rubberised boot floor mat, this covers all the way up the back of the seats too and has a stupidly large 86 logo on it!

This week I have been starting to update the interior of the 14R. I have removed the stereo and ETC system, about 4kg of weight in total, they aren't needed whilst it is sat in the garage.
I have also installed a Grazio & CO 4.2 TT USB ports, as the JDM models didn't have a charging port. 2017+ and TRD interior trim parts from USDM model, BRZ auto folding mirrors and TRD kneepad. Here is the wiring for the GPS for the ETC system, the stereo and the reversing camera removed https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1ngou...=y3mu4t6e&dl=1 The Grazio & Co USB chargers installed https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/pfpn0...=5106jqfz&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/eudtn...=95qqk2nj&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/sf3di...=at750ysm&dl=1 and the driver's and passenger interior trim update from the 2019 USDM TRD model https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/p12wi...=ubn8beqq&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/wtnom...=cp8qwh89&dl=1 Added a console side TRD kneepad https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/hqdsi...=3xqwvwos&dl=1 Oh and I also found my Drivejoy, well an air freshener that was shoved in amongst all the wiring! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9ulbn...=al52bvqj&dl=1 And here is my third video showing my progress https://youtu.be/pF4zHBCxshU?si=sOSvy07tKHlDWaWy |
I have started on getting this road legal, first things first I changed the clear lights in the bottom of the door and replaced them with red from the UK model. The bigger issues also was the existing kmh only gauge cluster. I replaced this with a later UK 2017+ model with the little screen and had it adjusted to show the correct mileage and removed the bulb for the TPMS system that is not available on the earlier cars.
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/sb6wj...=goaokxqp&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jikj6...=sxzev47e&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rc3nv...=ie3g9pf2&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/tf523...=cmxevh5d&dl=1 In addition to the cluster I installed the later model 2017 buttons and a GJP (Gerald Just Products) joystick to control the screen. I also added a selection of new TRD boots to the interior, all of this can be seen in the below video https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/r6b99...=12mbksvw&dl=1 https://youtu.be/kzsbs_TU4F8?si=6LoVgijIPLMAGhVL |

I actually sourced it four years ago, have had so many parts stock piled it is untrue, didn't get them with the steering wheel - a shop in the UK had someone who wanted the wheel, but not the boots - so got them on their own |
Tried to stay out of the interior for this update, done a lot in there!
So started with updating the VSC module to the 2017+ version, this is to ensure the buttons correlate with the gauge custer, but also I have slightly less obtrusive drive settings. When ordering from a breaker check here for the correct age, this is a simple retrofit for the the 2015 and 2016 models, needs re-pinning for earlier models. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/4d1fl...=ed4t6kln&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/x7wgf...=x18skfrz&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ydscd...=okftwl9p&dl=1 I also added a LAILE Beatrush brake master cylinder stopper, have always had these on every car I have owned, they do make a good difference...but not in gold, got it re-powder coated black https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/uz7o1...=l25tz0up&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/pbyse...=apflgv4x&dl=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/e7qm7...=sndbuxja&dl=1 and it wouldn't be me without another TRD part, so here you go, door handle protectors https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/g4cyt...=v8kxqhf6&dl=1 Here is the latest video https://youtu.be/Ju0HS37JPJY?si=RBm649EFL5zeZzaF |
Not much to report on this one, just gave the car a wash and installed some TOM's red v1 tail lights (after a bit of a re-pin)

Another quick video this week, had intended on fitting the auto-dimming rear view mirror but some wiring diffences stopped play on that one. Instead I opted to make the interior a bit more comfortable with the OEM armrest

Small update this time fitted some TRD rear side spoilers and a P3 gauge

@SiCaln Do you know if you are able to order replacement parts for your 14R in the UK if it were to get damaged?
|
Potentially, may be able to get the importer's contacts in Japan to do it using my VIN #, not 100% on that though

A 14R just came up for sale in Ireland of all places haha. I am even more surprised it's on Irish plates

Wow, thanks for showing that gonna see how they got it registered!
|
Another one from the archive today, I have been storing a TRD MOMO steering wheel for the car since 2018! Time to get it on in this video, the wheel went on easily, unfortunately the wiring loom for the UK spec indicators was not a straight swap, so will have to probably get an auto electrician on that.

Got all of the wiring issues for the wipers and lighting systems sorted, also added heated mirrors, JDM versions didn't come with it
Also prob a change of direction with the rear fog for the car, have found a great dual fog/reverse bulb https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/315472814961 Big thanks to this DIY for the mirrors from Markitect on FT86club forums https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112848 Check it all out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2-i0_kHNe0 |

Thank you! Yes, clocked that one myself, have it in my watch list, gonna try and big right at the end, hope no one else wants it!

Sadly that folder went over £135, couldn't justify it, things have moved along with the car though.
Have fitted a TRD rear lean brace, have the rest of them to go on, but not been under it yet https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/upmf1...5oeam9oh&raw=1 Also got the rear fog light working, didn't have to modify the bumper either thankfully https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/avmm9...j0deem6g&raw=1 Also got the auto-dimming rear view mirror installed too. Here is the latest video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4C2vWTK2fU&t=1s |
Slight change of pace for this one, I installed a Verus engineering bell cover housing, then went on an extended holiday in California, where I met up with a friend who showed me around his BRZ/TRD 14R60, so many original pieces on this one and a lot of custom stuff too.
https://youtu.be/r_oQgwpD2Ho?si=mDL3-IsVEA7z5ock Wanted to post some pics here but dropbox is not having it |
Managed to get the Kenwood stereo system installed, and the TRD interior panel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VnmLFzRVkI |
Forgot to add this one, for my 41st my wife got me a trip to do the rally experience at Brands Hatch, I think she just knew I was itching to drive my car!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzQKYl4lsfY I also finally got round to installing headlight washers and getting them to function as intended, no separate switch, off the stalk and only when the headlights are on, I have included a list of parts I used and a wiring guide in the video/description https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpc3uju5wMs |
First "power mod" on this one, added a GReddy Snorkel intake and was always jealous of the US markets being able to drop the rear seats from the boot so figured out a way to do it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M1308bfioo |
I have finally made a start on my audio upgrades, well post headunit upgrade. I have added 3-way component Focal Access speakers into the doors and dash, and coaxial Focal speakers in the rear, adding some sound deadening as i go. I also took the time to upgrade the door check straps to the GR86 versions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrYSspm0vXE |
Audio install finished, well mostly, the Scosche adpater I was using doesn't work and is throwing errors on the headunit, so will figure that one out, but other than that.
Amp is in, sub is in, interior is back together (mostly) and video is uploaded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doC5np4ihlE |
I had a local smart repairer come and take care of some of the smaller issues on the car, including chips on the front lip and bumper
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/a6jzc...=0p5kp0n8&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ad299...abhvmv4k&raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8soux...wg94eddv&raw=1 and this weird one I can't explain on the driver's side next to the rear window https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/4paex...1bjwij28&raw=1 Still not addressed these ones yet, which seem to be common complaints for 14Rs https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rj4qu...6ul18zqf&raw=1 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/a6jzc...hmugyesn&raw=1 Before installing the TRD Aero Stabilizing Cover onto the rear of the car, I have issues with things labelled TRD! https://youtu.be/LqdoMM0FF1k?si=wXpcpMCUbb0D7lfI |
I raided my old box of mods, found a very old TRD keyring I forgot I had (2012) and installed a Verus fuel starvation door.
Can finally register it in march, so I will be focusing on the service items in the next few weeks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL1ykKlAQSQ |
The day is almost upon us MOT in coming, many service bits to do beforehand.
Also found this lurking under the car, so that was a nice discovery! https://www.hks-power.co.jp/storage/...hmprJU0IW.jpeg https://youtu.be/WJdyNbpD4Ew?si=6HWn7vZXckqCp0ps |
