I work in manufacturing, so stuff like this stands out to me. Like I said, it's probably fine, cages are hard to weld. Just looks like poop even with PC over it. Looks pristine compared to some of the fab work on the HKS TRB-03 GT86.

Probably seemless mild tube. You would mig a cage, tig would be wrong application. Just body positioning when welding a tube with a bunch of other tubes coming into it would suck. It's not like a small object where you can just move it so you can be comfortable and have nice access.

TIG is what is used with chromoly cages, and many people use TIG to do mild steel cages. Having done both TIG and MIG, putting a MIG gun into tight spaces is not fun. Same for TIG, but the torch is smaller and easier to reach tight spaces, but it does require attacking the weld from both sides with the filler rod and torch. The heat is easier to manage, and the welds are better quality, but the time is night and day different, which is why I think they went with MIG for this, as it is for function over a show car, and it is so over-powered, chromoly is not needed.

Chromoly is a totally different beast then mild steel. I don't work with many welded chromoly parts, just machined shafts out of 4140 that we have case hardened. TIG on mild steel is a waste of time unless you are working with thin tubing, and even then it's kind of a waste. You TIG for a few reasons, a big one being heat control. Chromoly is sensitive to heating and cooling so you TIG it.

Edit: Really any high carbon metal you want to be careful of heating and cooling when you are bringing it within its phase transition temperature or you start ending up with bad grain structures.

Yes you can mig chromoly. You just have to take some extra precautions and should probably try to normalize the weld affected areas.

Judging by the rubber on the pavement, there were several takes while filming Pastranas video. It must be a nightmare getting cooperation from the municipalities to do those things.

Same on all the Hoonigan videos with Ken Block. Seems crazy they are able to get the approval for such projects.

I think more so with Ken's. There are a couple of scenes in this video and his last one where you can clearly see NO skid marks. This means that the shot used in the video was their first attempt, possibly his test run.

Well think about it, it's great PR for those cities and landmarks. Plus, it brings in extra revenue during filming. Things like, the cost for all the extra police, food and accommodations for everyone involved and so on.
The big bonus is the production company/sponsors take on all the responsibilities and extra costs (like insurances) so there is very little out lay for the city.
