Help about insurance for fr-s

Hey I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I am about the get me a new fr-s, but what worries me is how high as a guesstimate insurance would be monthly for full coverage. I'm 17 with 1 total but no tickets. I'm currently driving a 90 300zx and am paying 380 a month for liability

sajonf 08-20-2012 09:53 PM

380 a month for liability? Yikes. Here's a suggestion - call your insurance company and ask. There are so many variables with insurance no one can give you an accurate estimate

btrejo77 08-20-2012 10:08 PM

Yeah that is true. But just as a hot in the dark, what would you guess? I still plan on getting one regardless. I'm just curious

Hotlava86 08-20-2012 10:11 PM

WWWUUUUUUUU HOLY HIGH RISK BATMAN! either you were REAAAALLLY hauling ass on that ONE but not one ticket or your insurance company loooves taking advantage of naive kids. But dude if your paying 380 a month for liability.....ummm i am probably not going to be the last one that tell you but, CANCEL YOUR ORDER NOW! If you finance Full coverage is going to kill you!! like 5-600. I am 20 and have ONE speeding ticket from 2 years ago and a horrible accident that was determined my fault by the police and i pay $178-200 (insurance company hasn't decided) for full coverage. something is wrong on that. My friend is 21 and has a 1991 300zx and he pays around 150 for full coverage and he has 2 speeding tickets. Hope this helps.

Laika 08-20-2012 10:14 PM

You pay almost as much a year for insurance on a 300zx than I do for my BRZ payments + insurance in a year.

My suggestion would be for you to really look into how you can work on reducing your insurance costs. There are usually classes you can take. I don't want to discourage you at all but unless someone is helping you out with funding, I really don't think you should have the "getting one regardless" attitude. Hell what do I know, I just know when I was 17 there is no way I would have been able to pull that off but I made my share of poor automotive financial decisions around that age, just helping you prevent going my route.

Are mom and dad just loaded and don't care how much its going to cost or what? your obviously still in school? sooooo crazy high paying part time job?

i know being a certified Apple tech making $20+ an hour full time that i couldn't afford a 477 payment plus a 500+ insurance payment....

just saying

btrejo77 08-20-2012 10:18 PM

I have have gotten many different quotes from different insurance companies and all were over $450 for liability on my 300zx. Geico was the cheapest at the 380. And the total I got, I was hit by a woman that was speeding, on the phone, and had been drinking. But her dad was the cop so they blamed it on me, even though she hit me and all that

btrejo77 08-20-2012 10:19 PM

Well I work 3 different jobs a day. On average I make around $100-$150 dollars a day. I pay for everything of mine

Hotlava86 08-20-2012 10:21 PM

did you already graduate? and you should see about getting a lawyer and maybe getting your entire record expunged and eliminated

btrejo77 08-20-2012 10:29 PM

No I'm about to be a senior in high school. I was thinking about doing that, but the problem with it is that there is currently no proof of any of it, even though she told her dad (which wa the cop) but he didn't record any of it

Ok that makes things pretty much even worse....your probably honestly looking at 800 a month for bare minimum full coverage. i mean it's probably even higher. imagine what you would be paying for your Z at full coverage.....now increase that.....BY A LOT

Not sure you need PROOF to have a lawyer EXPUNGE your record. mine expunged my speed ticket..and my accident from my insurance company

btrejo77 08-20-2012 10:35 PM

I aske about full coverage, and they told me they dont offer it on a 22 year old car, which is bs because my dad also owns another 300zx an he has full coverage. To be honest though, the wreck only raised my insurance $15 a month. It's not bad at all. Before that I had a super clean record and was still paying 365

Hotlava86 08-20-2012 10:45 PM

....Ummmm.....are you not on your parents insurance plan? cause something isn't right....i was driving an Sr20DET 240Sx and my insurance company KNEW it had a turbo'd motor and raised the insurance because of it and i was 16 paying 190 a month liability on a turbo'd S13. something is wrong somewhere...380 a month is NOT BAD....IT IS HORRIBLE! especially for a car thats as old as your car is.

btrejo77 08-20-2012 10:55 PM

I am on the same company. But the reason why it is so high I think, is because since I'm under 18 I have to be insured on every car we own. We have 6 cars total. A new f150 platinum, 2 1990 Nissan 300zx, a 1983 monte carlo, a 1964 impala ss, and a 1994 integra gsr

onthemove 08-20-2012 11:01 PM

Im 20 and own a 2012 kia soul, i pay $311/month for 6 months a year for full coverage... i got a quote on a BRZ (which i ordered just waiting patiently for it to come) and my insurance premium dropped $50... thats going from a "stationwagon" to a rwd "sports car " dont ask me how or why, but i wont complain!

i was never required to be insured on ANY car i wasn't going to be driving. we had four cars. a 2005 trailblazer SS, a 1992 S13 SR20DET, a 2003 Chevy silverado an a 2000 chevy Corvette. SOOO....the reasoning still doesn't make a whole lot of since. I am with state farm and they required that i be insured on the S13 and said that i would NOT be covered whatsoever on the vette no matter what

So your saying that you would be paying 157 a month if you paid once a month all 12 months a year?

btrejo77 08-20-2012 11:04 PM

I wish I was that lucky. To be honest though, I might only go with liability on it. My dad also does body work on the side so if I was ever to get in a wreck, I would only have to pay for parts honestly.

been there done that. out of the house since 17. here's my 2 cents

get a celica and drop 1 day job and enjoy life some. you're only 17 once, the FRS will always be there. buy the 2nd generation when you're 23 with a stable day job that pays 100-150/day by itself.

meanwhile we will hep you make sure Toyota and Subaru have enough success with this car that they will make 2nd generation for you to enjoy.

That is some rock solid advice.

I do understand what you mean, but the thing is my grandparents would be buying me the car as a graduation present since they blew my college funds on stocks right before the stock market crashed.

So the only thing i would actually be paying is the insurance and thats why i am trying to actually get an estimate of how much i would be paying

boucher 08-20-2012 11:49 PM

25k would still get you a good bit of college. Lamar can't be that much huh? Or you can go to McNeese. That's where I graduated from for far less than 25k.

But.......if you're dead set on getting this car, call around tomorrow and get some actual quotes. Dudes on the internet are good for telling you that your car looks dumb and that you shouldn't have bought certain parts, not for quoting you insurance.

Hotlava86 08-21-2012 12:07 AM

well...i guess if someone is just going to buy it for you then go for it..
