Subaru looking into issues with the Nav
Dropped my car off at the dealer to do some detailing work and there happened to be a Subaru regional manager there. I talked to them about my Nav not picking up satellites and they told me Subaru is looking into it and they can't really do anything about my nav until they sort it out.
My nav takes about 10 minutes to find satellites. Yesterday I was driving in the middle of a lake! Hopefully there will be a TSB soon to fix our nav unit. |
Will your warranty cover you driving into a lake if that's where the nav takes you? :)

Why were you getting the car detailed at the dealer? That's the last place I'd get a car detailed at.

I use my NAV every day multiple times due to work. I have not had a single issue.
In fact I like the unit so much I'm adding a JL Audio Cleansweep to clean up the audio signal from the headunit and getting a Alpine Sub 300rms watt, and 5 channel Pioneer amp 300rms watt to my BRZ while keeping the head unit. |

It's being done by an outside vendor, not the dealer. It didn't cost much more than a detail and they supposedly warranty the paint/finish for 10 years. They also say it does not need to be waxed-ever. I was kinda curious so I said 'what the heck'. Maybe it really is that good? At worse, it will pay for itself by not needing a detail in the next year. |

It's obviously enough of a Problem that Subaru is looking into it. I hope they don't have to put another antenna on top of the car! |

I did a little research and I guess with the sealant the car is easier to clean and doesn't need waxing. I figure the paint protection guarantee alone is probably worth it. |

You would be one of the LUCKY ones...........................Mine worked great for the first three weeks, then boom it won't find and ADD. for me, but it will find favorites all the time and then it will find ADD. for but only after it finds the first favorites..............so I know how to make it work, but it doesn't work right!!!!! |
Haven't noticed issues myself other than my home street not existing on the map. Have not used it for route guidance though.

Ah, I hope there is a fix comin. I was scheduled to take my car in so they could take a look at it but difficult since its my DD. My issue that's popped up in the last month for my navi is that its fine on startup, but after driving out about half a mile or so, it loses signal and then it takes anywhere between 10-20 minutes for it to pick it back up. Hopefully it's a simple fix via SD card with new software.
|
Glad to hear they're working on it. I already have a thread started about the stuck pixels on my Nav. Maybe I'll end up with a third unit after they replace this one, or at the very least a firmware update to fix the satellite issue.
|
Mine was brought in for this today, concern was duplicated. Diagnosed and found the NAV antennae is receiving electrical interference from somewhere. The tech contacted SOA's tech line and was told the SOA is aware of the issue and is designing a repair kit to resolve it that will relocate the NAV antenna to a new location. Once the kit is available a TSB will be published to alert dealers.
No word on how soon that might be... |

I should also note I've only had my BRZ for 9 days now and 880 miles.

UPDATE:
They replaced and moved my GPS antenna and installed new software today. The GPS seems to be working now. No more driving in a lake. :( Apparently someone from Subaru came to install this at my dealership so hopefully it will be available to everyone soon (if not now) |
I don't want to jinx myself, but my GPS always works and locks onto sats instantly every time.

I have this update (new, relocated antenna and new SD card) as installed by a Subaru engineer.
Only, I can't tell you how it works, because I dropped my BRZ at the dealer 8/14 for the P0019 CEL and haven't seen it since. If I'm lucky, I may have it back 9/24 or so...if anybody is still interested, I can try to provide some feedback then. |

Even when the unit works its still the worst nav system I've ever used.

My understanding is that the Nav uses the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) to match up with the GPS satellite.. The two then work in concert to track location and speed.
The problem is that the NAV unit doesn't receive the VSS signal properly.. or doesn't decode it properly.. So the GPS beacon is giving an approximate change in location, but then the VSS signal is saying somethign completely different.. so the system freaks out and says GPS signal lost until it can figure out how to sync up. Mine drops signal by the end of my street every single time.. it can take anywhere from 2 to 20 minutes to pick up signal again.. it's basically worthless right now. |
The issue isn't the initial acquisition of satellites, it's maintaining them. If I'm parked, I'll typically get an accurate location within 30-60 seconds, however once I acquire a signal and set my route, once I start driving it either says GPS signal lost, or it thinks I am 5-10 miles away on some random road.

I actually like the Nav system when it works. Better than my Jeep, not as good as a standalone unit though.
|
Has anyone else had any software issues with the navigation? i.e. unresponsive buttons, if you slide out the audio control mini-panel it'll just freeze and get stuck there and if you press other buttons those panels will slide behind it, etc?

After that one trip I bought a new standalone garmin and haven't activated the map since on the shitty Subaru unit. |
To be fair, I've never used the nav for turn by turn. It seems like more of a PITA than just telling SIRI I want to go to XYZ and turn by turn starts working (beta of IOS6). I stream the turn-by-turn from the phone via bluetooth and just use the Subaru's on-screen map as a reference while listening to the phone.
Works excellent this way! |
Great news as I have the same issue. Seems to happen at least 50% of the time right as I hit my favorite curve leaving my neighborhood. "GPS Signal Lost".
|
Well I've been driving around for a week with the Nav update and it seems to be working pretty well. It finds satellites right away and puts me in the correct location when I start the car even if it has been sitting for a few days. I only found it confused once but it corrected itself quickly.
I had it guide me home through tunnels and it worked fine, so so far so good! |
Any magic words or repair references to share, guys? My dealer still keeps telling me that the update isn't live yet. "GPS signal lost" is getting really annoying...
