Are my exhaust tips too long?
Today had installed custom made exhaust to my 2021 BRZ. With increased diameter of 60mm.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dc6813efa5.jpg Mufflers are too close to the rear transmission and can’t go any further in. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1b0ac54261.jpg It seems to me that tip ends are just too far away. What do you think? Should I cut them some 2cm? Or deeper to cut out all burned out end? Or maybe cut them angled to match rear diffuser? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8e88558963.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...335ef109b6.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...311f448802.jpg What do you think? |
It really comes down to personal preference. I don't think they are too extreme on length.
|
If you cut the tips at an angle, it'll look badass. It's ok as-is though

It really comes down to personal preference .
I would have them tucked a bit inside, the body of the backbox is too visible. :) |

Unfortunately not possible as then the muffler will rub rear transmission parts |
I’m also afraid that if I’ll cut the tips they will look too short and not like an exhaust tip but like a round peace of sheet welded to the muffler.
|
I don't know that I'd circumcise those, but yes, they stick out too far. If the top of the tip aligned with the cutout, they'd look great. Can the shop pull back the muffler assembly further towards the front of the car?
|
Besides the tips being blue, it looks fine.
|
I like it. I wish mine stuck out a few mm further. You'll know they stick out too far when you burn your leg on a summer day leaning over to get in the trunk.
|
It's about right for JDM. They made them tuck under for the US market.

Unfortunately no, muffler is too long to go any further in |
Thanks for suggestions. If I’ll cut the tip straight at the border where blue color starts, would it be too short for a tip?
|
Don't cut them.
|
Some more photos. I think cutting them right at the edge where blue color ends will be just right. Maybe slightly angled.

They're good |
They look fine!
|
Are there silencers installed inside the canisters? Looks like a big exhaust tip but a smaller actual exit pipe inside.
|
I suggest you leave them alone. They look fine.

No, on the photos silencers are not installed. |
you know, most guy's are always looking for ways for a bigger tip, few want smaller!

My car is stock with no mods outside except for wheels which are almost as stock, not wide. So I’m not looking for crazy aggressive exhaust tips. I think stock tips look awesome. And since with this setup it’s impossible to use custom tips I’m trying to bring these kind of closer to where the stock tips were. A little further in. The problem is I don’t know how they’ll look like trimmed. But I’ve seen lots of pictures of similar exhaust installations where tips are more in and they look awesome. Some sample pictures I found in the internethttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...762c864d64.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2dcfe42ca5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4e972a9ea8.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d71c1bc302.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...72577e7aab.jpg |
Just drive the car as is and enjoy it my dude.
|
do they stick too far out for me? yes. i'm grinding them down and making them an angle cut.
there'd be no blue left when i'm done with them! |

Exactly my plan :) |
You can't see them while you are driving the car so who cares! :)

(They looked like Shin Killers before) |
I'd be taking it one step further and slash cut them to conform to the diffuser. Each to their own I guess.
|
Length wise after cut they look better.
But IIRC that Ti burnt finish probably costs extra, so that money went down the drain. As it's custom made, it's mistake of either customer not voicing wish of specific length, or maker messing up a bit during design phase, or due reusing ready components (those tips look as welded part of mufflers?) + clearance limits. At end it's all fine if you, as owner, are happy with result. Some extra costs and some extra time needed to reach it .. well, things happen :iono: |
Looks much better now, well done!

Well, the exhaust sound was so deep that I had to install silencers which brought it it to perfect tone. Love the sound, didn’t like their mirror finish look of the silencers:
