Injectors are noisier than usual and making odd sounds

Lately my injectors seem to be getting louder and also making new odd noises. Not sure what the cause would be and looking to see if anyone has dealt with this before.

Here's a video of the sound.

https://youtu.be/zpp7QJ4jnTY

It comes and goes as I'm driving but it seems to be getting more frequent.

Please record the engine sound with the hood open.

Nfsundrgrnd 07-19-2022 10:14 AM

Yeah I'll record it from the engine bay when I get the chance, I was late for work when I recorded this haha.

Nfsundrgrnd 07-19-2022 04:49 PM

So I tried getting it recorded from the engine bay but it's hard to notice from there. For some reason it's way louder in the cabin. The video posted has the clearest audio I can get at the moment unfortunately.

For extra clarity, it doesn't do it when cold, only once warmed up. Car drives fine but I'm wondering if the injectors are on their way out or something.

Nfsundrgrnd 07-19-2022 05:26 PM

It could likely be the DI pump making the noise as well but I'm not sure why it's gotten so loud and chirpy in the last week. I'm hoping the mighty @Tcoat or @steve99 might have some insight on the noise.

Tcoat 07-19-2022 05:39 PM

I actually hear nothing odd or unusual at all.

Maybe my DI pump was quiet up until now, it's like it has an extra layer of chirpyness I've never heard before. Only shows up when warm. Very noticeable in person but that might just be me nit picking sounds.

Gonna see if I can get a few comparison videos of when it's not doing it.

I can't catch that in the clip but yes the fuel pump can be silent until you get into hot weather.
You got the car in the winter didn't you? Just took the right weather conditions for you to join the Jiminy Cricket fan club. You will learn to ignore them and then it is weird when it doesn't happen.

I got the car in feb of 2021 but it spun a bearing in july 2021 so now I've got a fresh short block that was replaced in June. I've noticed the crickets before but I hadn't noticed this new noise up until last week. It seems to follow the DI pulse but it's hard to discern between the 2 noises. The best way I can describe it is like when you run a 4 cyl engine with no headers and there's that weird suction cup like noise for every compression cycle... but on a smaller and less noisy scale lol

Well if you heard crickets before and know that isn’t it then can rule that out. The timing was right for them.
Still not picking anything up other than normal injector sounds and exhaust.
Could be a small vacuum or exhaust leak maybe but I really just don’t hear it.
Not exactly listening on a state-of-the-art sound system though.

I just turned it on and noticed it very quietly before the DI kicked in so I wonder if it could be the port injectors doing something weird.. gonna see if I can get some more clear audio of it.

Nfsundrgrnd 07-19-2022 07:01 PM

So here's a comparison to what I consider normal for my car.

https://youtube.com/shorts/2hBxjyXZxPU?feature=share

If you compare the 2 and listen closely, you might hear the difference. It's hard to tell if this is just a normal wear and tear noise getting louder or a sign that something might be failing somewhere. I just don't want another catastrophic parts failure if I can avoid it haha

Time to break out the ole stethoscope.

jrhudson 07-19-2022 08:24 PM

Doesn't sound like anything is really off. does the noise change when you rev? was this noise only when its cold or warmed up?

try to get those videos of outside the car. help us help you. get video of under car, under the driver side see if you can't pick up the noise or anything from there but yea it doesn't sound terrible, just weird.

edit: also why do you think its injectors? if i heard a sound from the footwell of my car, i figure it was something closer to that area. vacuum hose/line?

I just assumed it was the DI pump acting up because it seemed to pulse at the exact same time as the DI, also when I shut the car off the noise whines down with the rpms/combustion cycles if that makes any sense so that's another thing.

I'm not too concerned by it yet since it seems to come and go like the crickets do but if it keeps getting worse I'd be more concerned.

It's barely audible anywhere but in the cabin, all the other mechanical noises and exhaust seem to cover 90% of it up on the outside.

Noise seems to be most present at mid temp, somewhere between fully warmed up and cold but happens when warmed sometimes as well.

I used to hear the bubble noise all the time when my car was brand new, like 7+ years 130,000 miles ago. I have no idea what causes it but I used to love the sound.

Yes Bubble noise is a perfect way to describe it! Glad to hear it turned out to be nothing major. How long did it last before it eventually went away?

Wait! WAIT!

Pulses with engine.
Started with warmer weather.
Audible in cabin but not engine bay.
Occurs in mid range temperatures.
Winds down when engine is shut off.
Bubbling noise.

A/C evaporator in dash. Next time you hear it open you glove box and listen closely in there.

This is a great suggestion! Next time I hear it I will check for that and update you guys! Appreciate the help! :)

Just an update to the situation, it seems @Tcoat might've been right. Last time I heard it, I shut the AC off then on again and I haven't heard it since then. Sound immediately stopped when I shut the ac off. I hadn't used the AC this summer up until last friday. If it comes back I'll be back lol.
