Anyone with a 23' order heard their car is built?
My order for a 23' BRZ was placed April 7th. I got a call from my dealer last week saying the car is built and he told me to expect it in the next 8-9 weeks.
|
Meanwhile, I’m waiting for my 22 to be built for a June 2022 delivery date. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I ordered my 2023 on April 19th. Just talked to my dealer about 2 weeks ago and my estimated delivery date moved up from November to August. No word on VIN yet, he told me it’s about a month out when he gets the VIN.

Thats really awesome to hear. Ordered May 5th and have been waiting to hear news on 23's getting built!
|
Placed a deposit a few days ago; they told me november....
No updates on when it's being built |
Ordered mine on April 26th and don't have an ETA yet. Hoping that this changes soon, doesn't seem like my dealer has a whole lot of information available to them.

2023 MY cars arriving earlier than expected? Are these cars just an extension of the 2022 MY production line? In the first quarter of 2017 I ordered a new motor home. It was built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis manufactured in the last quarter of 2016 and when it was finally completed, it apparently missed the allocation numbers for the 2017 model year, so it was designated as a 2018 model year RV even though it was 100% outfitted using the 2017 catalog. A 3% price hike was added to the base price of the RV, but not to the add-on features. I could not complain as the 2018 catalog was gutted as to trim costs at the factory. Anyway, regardless of what year is on the VIN, anyone would be pleased to get the car at all, let alone earlier than expected. More important than the model year date is the date when the car rolled off the line. My 2019 Subaru Ascent has an 08/2019 vintage, so it is among the cars that have had numerous recalls and a transmission that could potentially frag itself into oblivion.

I put in an order for a '23 a week or so ago and their quoted timeframe was "3-5 months, but up to 12" which is pretty damn broad

if you ordered now, expect it at the end of the year if production goes as planned. The reason they give a broad range is because they dont know if Subaru will run into production issues like many other manufacturers have recently |

With the backlog of MY22 models still undelivered, do they continue to build those out until all orders are fulfilled which blows their internally established cut over dates, or do they stick to the production dates and roll all the unfulfilled MY22 orders over to MY23? |

The industry is a little different than others and sometimes can be hard to understand the way it works. The Tier 1 suppliers (that send the final product directly to the OEMs) generally work on a three or four year contract system. The are contracted to make X amount of parts for each model year. This is actually why you usually see a refresh or other bigger changes after 3 or 4 years. This plan is set up as much as two years before production is scheduled. If the OEM wants more parts within that contracted period they can up the order but it costs them a small fortune as the unit price was set for that original X number. If they cut back orders then normally they still pay for parts that they cancelled as again the price was set for X amount. This means under normal conditions they are going to stick as close to that X number as possible and neither make more nor less than plan. The parts manufactures for automotive work almost exclusively on the Just In Time system. There are no big warehouses full of ready to go parts but instead they are all made and shipped to literally arrive at the plants "just in time". This system can work well for flexibility but also cause total chaos both at the same time depending on where the parts are in the pipeline when the order is increased or decreased. Now... I said that under normal conditions the OEMs have to pay for cancelled parts whether they are used or not but there is one standard clause in the contracts that rarely comes into play. That clause is that the OEMs can cancel parts orders without penalty or payment in the event of an uncontrol able disaster or interruption. So if a vehicle just isn't selling they are going to pay for all the parts whether they stop making it or not (looking at you Aztec) but if there is some reason beyond their control they can reduce orders without cost. Of course this clause has come into effect many, many, many times over the last two years. Since they are not paying to not make cars they will adjust the numbers for each model year to meet what they can build not to what they have orders for or even what the original plan said they would build. The thing that is apparently coming out of this current situation is that most of the car companies are looking at a customer preorder build system even when all this shit clears up so ordering a car and waiting months to get it is the likely wave of the future. |
Ordered April 26th. Got a message from the dealer last week that it was expected in August, but still no VIN.
So I'm skeptical the car will be built, get on a ship, make it across the ocean, get the port installed short shifter, and make it to the middle of the country in two months. |

Took Subaru a month to ship my wife's new car the 6 hour trip from Indiana to Ontario! |

But that's OK with me. I've already ordered all my suspension stuff. So now just saving up for a partial PPF and ceramic coat and the tag/tax/title. Which I'll have at the end of the month with my bonus. |

When I went in, I thought the same thing. They are going to give me an Oct/Nov Delivery date. Which I still wouldn't be surprised if that's the case, so you can imagine my surprise when they gave me the August/Sept timeline. The fiance and I have been sharing a car for the last year and a half (since we both work from home), so the wait isn't a big deal. Although she has a third interview coming today with a big company based here in OKC, which if she gets it, means she will be back in an office full-time. Which will leave me without a car during the day until the BRZ gets here. The only case in which it would be a big deal is a pet emergency. |
Just a little update. I have now receieved my VIN for my 2023 order. Still same estimated time period. Hopefully another 6-8 weeks!

Got an update today on my 23'. Ordered May 5th, original estimate was October/November. Updated delivery is now August with a VIN expected anyday. He said this is due to the color I ordered, MGM. All the MGM orders were moved up. Bad news is he's seen red orders get pushed back to November if they weren't already. Sorrry if thats bad news to anyone, just passing along what I heard.

They may be only running certain colors through production at certain times. I've heard about other auto makers doing this. They have a production schedule for cars not painted in the default white/black/gray/silver which make up the bulk of production. The last example I saw it was certain weeks of the month, not certain months though.
With firm '23 orders with VIN's now coming out, what is happening to the folks still waiting on '22s? Just curious. |

Got my VIN last Thursday!
With a surprise I got my VIN last week , I put a deposit at the end of april and my expected delivery date was the end of August. I ordered my car in Montreal at Subaru Metropolitan (Previously known as John Scotti Subaru). Pretty sure my delivery date will be earlier as they expected. I ordered a Rally Blue BRZ Sport Tech. Definitely my dream car. Hope y'all will have their car soon as well.

Thankfully, I don't need a car. But was looking forward to it. My custom FA500s showed up yesterday, was hoping the car wouldn't be too far behind. |

So far, the only 2023 allocation I've seen out there on dealer sites was red though! (Unfortunately the god-like spreadsheet we were using to track 86 allocations got kyboshed by Toyota.) Anyhow I'd guess there will be some red 23 BRZs come before Nov, and that's another conservative estimate thing. |
I received another message from my dealer today that my '23 Limited, Ignition Red is still expected to be here next month.
I'll let you all know if actually shows up in the next 6 weeks. |

I spoke to my salesman last week. He said that they turned it into a '23, and their computer showed an estimated date of Jan 2023!!(not sure if it was production or delivery) Needless to say, I'm very shocked that I have to wait 1 year (if it even comes by then), for a SUBARU! WTF |
