Dont replace your GR86 premuim\BRZ Limited Headunit until you read this.....

There are a few car settings I can't seem to find other then on the cars head-unit..... Headlight control happens to be one of them, if you swap out the head unit you will lose that functionality, along with others ( I believe there is 2 other car settings), anyone find these settings on the dash cluster or anywhere else?
If that's the case then an aftermarket head-unit for the premium is out of the question.

What type of control do you need with the headlights other than on/off? Which I would hope would be on a steering wheel stalk.

THe GR86 Premium comes with adaptive headlights as you turn the wheel the lights turn with it. It is controlled via the head unit.:bonk:

I imagine that without the headunit the lights would just point forward like I would want them. Good to know. It’s stupid that it’s in the head unit, but I’d also hate to have some extra knob or whatever it would be on the dash. (not really sure what part of that system is controllable)

It is in the cluster in Canada, its called SRH and there is a toggle for on/off in both the cluster and headunit. I didn't find any non-media settings within the headunit that were not also in the cluster when I played with the settings.

This only pertains to the AT Premiums, MT Premiums do not have the adaptive headlights.

Just the auto high beams. The manual premiums do have the lights that turn with the wheel.

yeah I have a MT Prem and SRH is in the headunit, would love to know where it is at on the cluster so I can see if the other functions are there too.

I have a MT prem and I can verify that they do have the adaptive headlights.

Would it be possible to change these setting with an OBD scanner and proper software?

jimmyjazz86 03-11-2022 08:54 PM

On mine I was able to change the SRH On/Off via the steering wheel controls. M/T Premium

shoreline86 03-13-2022 04:44 PM

Yeah, these settings are available in the gauge cluster controls. You can still replace the head unit without loss of functionality (I think the Starlink UI might be a questionable one here though).

Awesome! thanks!

The shift light indicator controls are only set via the head unit.

Irace86.2.0 03-23-2022 12:11 PM

Probably Techstream to change settings.

I did it through the dash.

Given the Japanese base cars have no headunit, it strikes me as odd that there would be settings that you can only change via the headunit...

I haven't yet found a setting that can't be toggled via cluster.
