As for anime yes, 4th stage is last one they made. As for manga, last vol was 39 (correct me if I'm wrong). new volume manga release every 5 months, so it'll take long time to make 5th stage anime.

honestly, i remember reading a manga that was exactly like this long before initial d came out, but it was about bikes. and the drawings looked better. didn't have no sugar daddies tho.

no no, it wasn't drawn by the same guy. i don't think it was that famous either. it had a main character named "On Road" who just got his license and beat guys at the touge with a much older model bike (just like takumi). most of the series tho happens on the circuit where he ends up racing professionally.

Hm... I'm trying to think top of my head... but I can't really think of one. I have 3~4 car manga that follow kinda like that story, but not bike. Maybe my uncle might know (he's bike-holic & manga-holic), but for me I have no clue.

i tried looking it up and after digging and digging for a long time i finally found the title. it was called G.P., came out in 1988 and only lasted for 3 books before the magazine it was published on got canceled. that's why it's not famous! the touge battle is very similar to takumi's first battle, where everyone's like "an RZ? that's impossible!" lol my memory is so random

Like many, I love Initial D. Just love it. Was finally motivated to start collecting the translated manga (even though it has those horrible anglicized names, "Tak"... ugh!) to get the full and complete story, instead of relying on the haphazard anime for Stage 4.

whats wrong with the anime? i watched stages 1-4, battle stage and extra stages 1 and 2 but havent read manga. what have i missed?

It goes along the same line as "The book was better than the movie." Nothing wrong with the anime its just the manga's have more to tell...with quite a bit more humor as well!

Yup. I love the anime, because the driving is far more excited in full colour and animation than in black and white static images. But the story is more developed in the manga, particularly for stage 4 (which is pretty well gutted like a fish for the anime).

Initial D is a book? i thought it was just a movie...

its a manga. (japanese style comic books) that became an anime, then later adopted as a shitty ass movie, and has games based off it, a whole type of culture spawned because of it.
