Anyone going to switch badges?

First time poster here, when I heard about the car and SAW the prototype and saw the PRICE TAG I said to myself I am damn well going to buy that car when it gets here.

But from what Ive read so far here in Canada it will be sold as the Scion? Well I would way rather have a Toyota, but since thats not going to happen I would still rather have Toyota badges instead of roll around reppin' Scion.

So I was thinking of just switching the badges from Scion to Toyota.. Thoughts?

Midship Runabout 07-06-2011 10:02 PM

Everyone will always know its a scion. but do whatever you want its your car.

Also this topic has been discussed

bofa 07-06-2011 10:19 PM

You can change all the badges you want but it's still a Scion. If you don't want a Scion, I'd recommend getting the Subie version or looking at something else.

farugah 07-06-2011 11:41 PM

Ill swap you my Toyota Badges for your Scion ones ;)

Sabastian 07-07-2011 01:13 AM

The problem with badge-switching is this: Non-car people won't notice/care, and car people will think you're a tool (because you are). It's a no-win situation.

I think... we already have a thread about this...

iff2mastamatt 07-07-2011 02:02 AM

I might de-badge it for a clean look.

xantonin 07-07-2011 02:58 AM

I would de-badge before I re-badge, and not only because it's impossible to avoid that step, but I just think it would look better to have no badges at all than have mismatched ones.

Fortunate Few 07-07-2011 03:02 AM

Who's gonna be the first loser to put a subi badge on their scion.

NikostC 07-07-2011 03:06 AM

Yeah im going to stick a BMW logo on it like this guy
http://www.forkparty.com/wp-content/...BMW-donkey.jpgthey will never know its a donkey...

no badges? then you'd have a giant phallus on your hood. look at the car again and imagine it without that front badge... :bellyroll:

You can use the Vitz emblem.

WhiteKnight 07-07-2011 12:05 PM

debadge... keep it clean

bofa 07-07-2011 12:16 PM

A word of caution about debadging... especially on a new car... everywhere you go people will walk up and start asking you about the car. Then you will end up verbally acknowledging its a Scion. You can't escape!!! :bellyroll:

RRnold 07-07-2011 05:29 PM

The steering wheel and the radio will still say Scion so you're still screwed!

Levi 07-07-2011 06:06 PM

I think it is the other way round. Whatever car it is, a Scion is a Toyota with another badge. You think the cars will be different in EU and US? They will be exactly the same only instead of Toyota badge get Scion badge. If you then put a Toyota badge on the Scion it will just mean you got a Toyota from EU or Japan.

DougieFresh 07-07-2011 06:20 PM

I know switching badges is very gay a lot of the time, but I really dislike Scion, and Toyota is my favorite manufacturer (in the 90s at least) so I would rather switch or debadge it.

bofa 07-07-2011 06:32 PM

They are one in the same, my man. Why not get the Subie? What's your experience with Scion?

Giccin 07-07-2011 07:01 PM

By going off the "Green Light for Subie" thread.. the subie is going to be priced around the same as scion. It'll all come down to design at some point.

Here's what it seems like.
I don't:
- like scion because of the badge. Options: Debadge/rebadge or Buy Subie.
- like subie's design. A: Buy a Scion
- like scion's design but I like subie's interior. A: Buy a Subie
- like scion because... its a scion! A: Buy a Subie
- like to haggle prices because its a hassle! A: Buy a Scion
- like the no-hassle price thing. A: Buy a Subie
- like that it only has 200hp and no turbo. A: you're looking at the wrong car. Go buy something else.
- like that this car has a boxer engine. A: Don't buy the car.
- like this car because it's not fuel efficient. A: Buy a Prius

I'll argue for both sides but getting really bored of reading the same comments over and over. Lol

xantonin 07-07-2011 07:07 PM

I think I'm going to put every single manufacturer's badge on.

DougieFresh 07-07-2011 07:14 PM

Well, I was actually unaware that there was going to be a subaru version in Canada. If that is the case then I will definitely take that. But can someone explain to me why there are 3 different versions of the car...

The FR-S was a concept car by 5Axis based on the FT-86. There are essentially 2 cars, the Toyota/Scion FT-86 and the Subaru Whatevertheydecidetocallit. It sounds like the FT-86 could end up getting a Toyota emblem across the pond, but in NA its a Scion.

FR-S/FT-86 is the same. Its just branded Toyota instead of Scion to other countries. 216a is Subie's version. :)

Hope that cleared it up.

A lot of women don't even know Scion is a brand :bellyroll:. They might even think it's an exotic... :party0030:

I agree, de-badging doesn't work. I vote for the donkey or is it jackass.

eh. I'd still debadge simply for the cleaner look. not because I'm embarrassed by it being a scion.

Sleepy-kun 07-26-2011 11:58 PM

I'm going to swap mine. It's made by Toyota, why not?

MiguelAE86 07-27-2011 12:20 AM

I don't know why no one has said this by now but...wouldn't this be better if it had a poll? you know, to visualize things? :iono:

baldolera 08-17-2011 05:47 PM

What makes the difference is if the badges use 2 holes in the body and screws to attach it, or if it is simply glued on. If the badges use 2 holes and screws then there's no way I'm going to trouble myself debadging/rebadging because I would have to bog over the holes and re-paint. However, if it is glued on then that's a different story and I would debadge and go for a cleaner look.

Dave-ROR 08-17-2011 05:55 PM

I'm not sure how the badge will change my experience of driving the car.. since it won't. Personally I don't care what badge is on the car, the driving feel/fun to drive side is all that matter IMO.

Type[R]+ 08-17-2011 09:23 PM

Why not just TRD badge? No more Scion/Toyota/Subaru worries!
