Caliper Paint w/emblem Customization
Hey y'all,
Has anyone who has painted calipers ever tried also doing a stencil with a different color to get a more custom look? For example painting the caliper all black, then placing a stencil and painting the Subaru Pleiades emblem in white or different color... Would this work or would the primary paint coat prevent the design paint from properly setting? I've always been curious if this was possible and figured it would be one of those "little things" to make a small improvement look even more professional. If this has been tried and it peeled or etc then I'd rather not waste my time! :thanks: Thanks! |
Its do-able.... like most painting, its all in the prep. Good luck

Generally you would wait until that first color is dry. And depending on your paint its most likely a glossy paint. Your 2nd layer may or may not hold onto the glossy paint without sanding a little. Then you may want to put a layer of clear coat on top for the glossy look.

Honestly, just buy a decal, it's way way easier and holds up well.

I ordered the JDM piston badges since I'm not sure how well my paint job would have come out. Congrats for making it work for you though.

That reminds me, I need to commission one of my artist friends to do some hand-painting in the near future. |

that piston badge turned out great though theres no way I have the patience and precision to do it perfectly makes sense why you got a girl to do it lol |
Actually she is another local frs owner here in AZ. She started with a brush then changed to using a toothpick and q tip. They came out great. Hopefully will be getting mine done soon. Got the g2 paint ready.

As long as you prep them properly, it'll turn out great and last forever!
Sand them down nicely, clean them off, paint them with caliper paint, let it dry and apply a high-temp adhesive decal to your taste (or if you prefer nothing, that's cool too), then spray it all in clear coat for the finishing touch. Not only does the clear coat makes the calipers look shinier... It also helps keeping it clean (much easier to clean off the brake dust and dirt buildup), and acts as bonding your adhesive decal with the paint. Here's how it turned out for my MR-S... http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...a/DSC_0012.jpg P.S. I would like to also point out; if you are adding multiple layers of paint, do it cautiously as the thicker the paint you put on your calipers the less cooling effective they become... Good luck! :happy0180: |

DaJoian -- do you know where to get high-temp adhesive decals? I would like a Subaru or brz decal.
