That poor car definitely deserved better, look at the purple subway handle drift charm!

joemysterio 01-03-2022 05:54 PM

Geez, i hope not but sounds like someone did if secondary damage is biohazard... Condolences to that kids family, no one deserves to die so young. They deserved better.

soundman98 01-03-2022 06:04 PM

clearly this new model is too fast for young drivers!

Damage doesn't look bad.... curious as to what the body looked like. Did a tree limb impale him or something?

Didn't last gen have an excellent crash rating?

ETA: wow nevermind. Click the link and browse the pictures of the driver's side. Yikes

Sym 01-03-2022 07:36 PM

I don't think the article is related to this crashed BRZ.

The driver posted the following with a pic of the wreck in a discord after it happened on 12/17:

Quote:

Still not entirely sure what happened, i can’t recollect. but basically from what i heard from the police is i hydroplaned, lost control, spun out, and got hit my a truck on the driver side. just thankful to be alive still. 8 broken ribs, and having my left lung drained. still in the hospital right now. my dad is going to see the car soon so i’ll share pics of it once i get to see them
Here's the pic he posted:

joemysterio 01-03-2022 09:50 PM

Yikes! Probably some blood and stuff then for "biohazard" damage. I wonder why that hydroplane story sounds familiar, maybe I read it elsewhere?

Still sad about that kid though.

Buy for a FA24 swap onto a first gen? :D

NikolaiCherepanov 01-04-2022 10:50 AM

God now I don't feel so bad about ripping my side-skirt off by yeeting it over a median. I have never driven a car with driver aids, my other DD a Z3 has ABS and thats it. I was turning and got this feeling the lady beside me was going to cut me off so I turned a little aggressively and then the ass end stepped out on me and wouldn't get back into line, I knew the DSC was trying to assist but it made it worse. $1400 later and it was fixed thank god it didn't damage anything but the side-skirt. I feel bad for this guy but hopefully he's okay like a racing instructor told me once "Don't go faster than your angels can fly and don't drive outside your abilities its not worth it"

did you know that article no longer exists on jalopnik?

the almighty herb outright deleted all posts before the takeover. i'm guessing they don't want any legal ramifications from previous administrations...

mazeroni 01-04-2022 04:19 PM

Oh, that's not so bad looking... Oh, wait.

Hey I have no problem admitting when I do something stupid. It was partially my fault but its so odd I couldn't get it to snap back into place like my Z3 now granted the Z3 is 300Lbs lighter and has better tires on it but still. That $1400 side skirt was enough for me to learn my lesson though

if you don't know the story behind that one, it's worth the read:

it started with this:

https://jalopnik.com/this-asshat-bmw...-ca-1677493427

and then the guy that did it took to the bmw forums to defend himself, which ended as spectacularly as anyone can foresee:

https://jalopnik.com/how-not-to-expl...s-b-1677523538

TLDR; don't use analog tire pressure gauges, 1.5 psi is enough to make a car do some crazy things...

What was even more of a blow to my ego was I've driven my Z3 in rain with questionable tires and have never lost control of it then I hop in the BRZ and loose control of it immediately, but i'm thankful the only thing hurt was my wallet and ego :bellyroll:

Sport-Tech 01-04-2022 05:53 PM

Looks like fun, I'll have to try that in Forza!

Don't feel too bad! The record still belongs to the guy a few years back that lost control and rolled the car while leaving the dealer's lot for the first time. He didn't even make it 100 yards.

2nd one on Auction, totally fixable with just the front frame damage. Probably can just pull it to straighten the side frame and then weld a new piece on the front. Engine and everything looks good. Track build hahaha!

It's a perfect hit too lol, washer fluid reservoir looks to be holding, headlights look good. I mean lol you couldn't ask for a better deal on a track build.

Nah. Likely internal damage to the engine. Crankshaft takes a whack while everything else is still moving forward. Maybe... maybe not. This wasn't dead on center, but...

Certainly very easy to get carried away in these. Im very impressed with the power delivery on these 2nd Gen's. This is essentially what the 1st Gen should have been. Im super excited to push this 2nd Gen at autocross and some lapping events, it will be very rewarding.

That looks like relatively minor damage, and could be a good base for a track build.
Also ready for a GR86 bumper swap :bellyroll:

looks like it made love to a guard rail. and then the guard rail ignored their safe word.

It's a good thing a lot of the kids don't go for something that is actually fast.......like a sport bike.
