Any previous/current owners of AE86?

I've had 2 AE86s in the past. My first one was a red 1987 GT-S lift back, a rust bucket. The below was my second silver 1985 GT-S lift back (slightly modified). I had 1 rust spot on the rear passenger side fender and a tear on my driver side seat bolster. Other than that the Silver AE86 was very clean.

Modifications of the silver car:

Tokico blue adjustable shocks front and rear with Eibach pro kit springs.
Falken Azenis tires.
K&N cone intake.
HKS sports exhaust.
Momo steering wheel.
Hella headlights.
T3 short shifter kit.
CD player lol.

Sold the car a long time ago (got all my invested money back).

That's a great looking 86. The backseats look minty. I can imagine in 25 years time, most FR-S/BRZ rear seats are going to look that minty as well.

trueno86power 08-16-2012 01:02 PM

Woha that was a clean one! Got 2, my first one was a 1986 Corolla GT-S 2 door, a rust bucket really. My second one was a mint Corolla SR5 1986. Sadly it was auto, my goal was to swap this GT-S shit on the SR5 but both of their engine blow up in the same months. And I was 16... not the best idea i've got in my life but I still have plenty of fun with them!

1985 AE86 Liftback Owner Here!

Hi, Hanzo. Pleased to "meet you". Brand-new member of ft86club.com. I've been an 1985 AE86 Liftback owner since May 29, 1985. Photos of my baby here. http://1985ae86hatchback.blogspot.com. We've been in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA for over two (2) decades now. Beautiful specimen you've got there.

truenosan 11-07-2012 06:48 PM

I had a POS AE86 first, got rid of that, and had this one after that. I still wish I didn't sell her.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...A_Cruise04.jpg

I did the Levin conversion after I had a little boo boo with the front end.

I still wish I had this car, however, the FRS will do for now.

Damn, that looks really clean. :w00t:

philstar 11-07-2012 07:05 PM

my old 86 several years ago, I definitely miss it and I regret ever getting rid of it, although the FR-S has filled that void quite nicely, giving me that same feeling of enjoyment that I thought was long gone.

TuxedoCartman 11-07-2012 07:35 PM

I've never owned one myself, but I helped a friend track down, purchase, and restore a GT-S a few years back. Drove it a couple of times, and my god that car was a blast!

It's an overused expression, but they really don't make them like that anymore. As much as I love my FR-S, the day somebody puts a high-reving RWD hatchback on sale in America again, I'm trading up (down? sideways? ...I'm trading my car in).

Tanuki 11-07-2012 07:37 PM

^Really? I think the FRS is about the closest to the feeling I got when driving my cars, well except I know it will start and run every time I need it to.

Had an 85 Coupe same silver colour as the OP's car. Will try to find some pics. Was rocking some nice black mesh Riken wheels on it.

I never owned one myself, I was always more in love to the Supra than the AE86, however have two friends who own/owned one. A blast to drive and just a classic.

dori. 11-09-2012 05:50 AM

I wanted one a while back but at the time all the ones I could find were from owners that didn't truly want to sell or were just too expensive for what the car was.

Clean cars though guys!

Turbowned 11-09-2012 10:01 AM

I always wanted a nice, clean AE86. Closest I ever got was this gold brick GT-S POS:

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...6coupe/001.jpg

Bought it for $700; thought I was getting a deal and dodging the "Initial D tax", but I blew the engine after 20mins of driving (conrod chunks everywhere!) towed it home and tried to tear it all down to fix it. The whole car was a disaster. After stripping the body down to bare metal, I realized the car was too far gone. It would've needed a serious ground-up restoration because everything in the car was FUBAR. Sold the roller and all the parts to a kid with 4 other AE86's. Thank goodness for the new 86, because I don't think I'll ever have a nice original hachiroku! In the meantime, I bought the German equivalent: a 1991 BMW 318is.

Sportsguy83 11-09-2012 10:52 AM

@F3dzo... post pics of yours!!

I owned 2 one was a 85 Red GTS i was going to restore it full US oem parts but my brother got different idea and turned it as an N2 spec AE86 so I just gave it to him. The other one is a 84 White SR5 but sadly it spend more time in my garage sitting than driving, nothing wrong with the car its just on non op. Friends tell me when I get the FRS its going to have a big shoes to fill but I think I'll go a different route on the FRS or BRZ which ever I decide to get.

AE86guy 02-12-2013 12:57 PM

I got my first Corolla GTS(my first car) in 1992. Around 1993 I turbocharged it.
After selling that car I bought a 92 Integra which I also turbocharged. I then went on to a 1995 Integra with a B20 block and Civic type R head with an HKS GT28 ball bearing turbo and JDM Type R conversion.

But I still came back to an AE86 in 1999. It's been through a lot of changes but I still track the car on occasion to this day...

In 1999.

And I had a coupe along the way.

Sadly no AE86's for me but I do currently own a 79 corolla coupe and a 78 corolla wagon.

Skurj 02-12-2013 05:51 PM

Brother's got one.. does that count?

Its been through a ton of changes... had a turbo for awhile, he's always had megasquirt on it, not sure what's in it now.. it may have a 6spd..

Hoping this summer to get my BRZ and his ae86 in some photos.

Sadly I have not owned one, an AE92 yes, but no AE86. Most in my area are complete rustbuckets or projects and are priced entirely too high for what they are. I wish I could come across one in good shape.

I did, however, learn to drive stick in an '84 SR5 that a friend of mine owned.

truenosan 02-13-2013 10:36 AM

I tried to go to counseling, I tried to avoid it. I even got the FRS hoping it will fill the void.

As many AE86 past/current owners can vouch for this, there is just something about this car. Something that keeps making me go back to it.

I picked up another one... for a project. An 84 SR5 which will need pretty much everything. Let the fun begin!

I've never owned one, but i have driven a couple

coolest experience i've ever had...

It was raining outside and I was getting ready to leave where i was at when a AE 86 pulls in to park next to me.

Me and the other owner chatted for a bit, then he threw me the keys and told me "instead of talking about the 86 drift heritage, you tell me if it's carried on into the new 86"

we swapped cars for about 5 minutes taking advantage of the rainy day and the empty parking lot...

by far one of the coolest experiences in my life, he thought it was pretty cool to drive my car too :D lol

There is something that was defiantly felt between the two cars. The transition between AE86 to the GT86 was like falling in love for the first time again...

both are different in their ways but at the end of the day you get the same feeling from both... maybe one day ill restore an 86...

Very cool. One word of advice regarding restoring an 86. Get one now, don't wait too long or else....a lot of pure AE86 owners won't want to let go of their Hachirokus.

Never owned one myself but there has been one in the family for a while now. My brother has had his for 7-8 years now. That is one of the main reasons I chose the FR-S. When we were younger we always chose similar cars, sort of a sibling rivalry of sorts. We're past that now but it will be nice to hit up a few meets and cruises together, me in the new, him in the predecessor.

Actually most of the levin stuff on his car is from a kouki levin. Front and rear bumpers, hood, front lights, front fenders all kouki stuff. The corner lights and grill is zenki.

Cool car nonetheless, i think i have a magazine with this car in.

Man, where are all you guys finding these clean AE86's? Every one I come across is in terrible shape and "track ready". If I ever found one in nice enough condition, I probably would have bought it instead of my FRS.
