Windshield

For those of you with the new cars, do you have any "waviness" in your windshield? I took delivery yesterday, and there appears to be waviness in the windshield right where my focal point is. If I shift up or down, the view gets distorted.

Fingat 11-20-2021 04:07 PM

That sounds annoying

DocWalt 11-20-2021 05:40 PM

I've had windshields that do that replaced (after quite a fight) with other cars, hopefully you can get it taken care of!

suhhh 11-20-2021 06:19 PM

Are you able to take a pic of it? Never dealt with this before so just curious what it looks like

DeathEvil 11-20-2021 06:25 PM

I would think something like that shouldn't pass the QC check

soundman98 11-20-2021 06:27 PM

it's a defect. they need to replace the windshield.

all glass has some waviness to it, but it should take a ton of effort to find. most of my vehicles, i notice it looking at the far bottom right corner.

22 BRZ 11-20-2021 06:39 PM

My wife and I don't see any waviness in my windshield. I'd agree with the others, if it is bad enough that you noticed, it's a defect.

dragoontwo 11-20-2021 08:04 PM

I noticed it as soon as I sat down. It seems to be smack in the middle. I'm unsure I can get a good picture of it. I'll have to stop in on Monday to get it checked out.

groovymoonbear 11-21-2021 07:43 PM

Just to chime in, no waviness on mine.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but have you tried cleaning the inside and outside glass? In case there is some oil or something on the window causing the distortion.

dragoontwo 11-29-2021 06:00 PM

Small update to say that they're ordering a windshield.

Interceptor777 11-29-2021 06:23 PM

Also just to chime in, mines perfect. This was probably a one off defect.

dragoontwo 11-29-2021 06:36 PM

Let's hope so.

dragoontwo 12-11-2021 01:52 PM

Car is going in Tuesday for replacement.

Dylans47 12-11-2021 05:57 PM

This might be a dumb question but something like a windshield replacement under warranty wouldn't go on carfax or anything right? It would just be listed as a service?

soundman98 12-11-2021 07:01 PM

depends on who and where install it. not likely. but carfax is more spastic than an autistic tourette's kid after 4 cans of monster.

dragoontwo 12-11-2021 08:25 PM

I don't know but I wouldn't think so, as it's a warranty replacement not damage or an accident.

So, here we go with the dealership rodeo. Dropped the car off last night and found out that they did not also order the homelink mirror that they deemed defective. Appt. was supposed to be at 9 AM and I was passing by at 11 AM to see the progress. Was told that 9 AM was for me to drop off the car, and the glass subcontractor would get to it whenever. 2:30 PM today get the call that they could not do the windshield because they failed to also order the moulding for it. Now I have to do it all over again.

That's too bad, the dealer should have known the molding is required.

Also, once the job is completed, pay close attention to the interface between body, glass and molding in the top corners. Maybe take a picture of how they look now.

I would just get them to comp a loaner for you and leave it there

I tried to get a loaner the first time, and they don't have any available.

I was looking and trying to remember where this thread was. I’m having the same issue with my 2022 BRZ. There’s distortion only in front of the driver side, about 4 inches in diameter - right in front of the driver’s focal point. Same issue, when I move up and down, things distort only in that section. Cars begin to fisheye as if they’re under a magnifying glass. It’s been giving me bad headaches and making me nauseated. If I move my head over the center console, it’s clear and looks good. Passenger side looks good also.

I took a video of it today and you can clearly see streaks in the actual glass, not on it. Planning on taking it to the dealer next week. Glad to know that the dealer ordered a replacement for you.

New windshield itself is okay, but the moulding around the roof of the car is not installed very good. Not sure what kind of recourse I have to get the dealer to get it redone right.

You're right that it's not perfect but that's about as good as it gets from a third party. They have to apply and stretch that molding to the glass by hand.

There's also the question of how many times you want your car opened up and fresh urethane applied. If there's no other problems with the install, I would try to live with it, hard with a new car though.
