Ebrake light keeps coming on
 

So on my drive home from the track last night the Ebrake light came on as I was driving home, then it turned off… Then came back on. Then off. Not sure what’s going on or where to even start looking. Any help would be awesome.

Check your brake fluid level. It's probably low.

And once you've checked the fluid level and confirmed that it's low, check the state of your brakes ASAP because unless there's a leak, then that fluid doesn't just vanish: If the reservoir is low with no leaks in the system and no repairs on the system have been made with it going without a refill, then that means all the caliper pistons are extended to near the brake wear limit.

Checked and it’s low. Gonna check the brakes this afternoon.

So the reason it’s low is NOT because I have a leak thankfully. It’s because my pads are shot from the track and the piston is so extended. I wish I would have checked that BEFORE I topped off the fluid.

Oh well…worse problems to have. I could ran down to metal.

rule of thumb for next time. brake fluid doesn't evaporate. it's hydroscopic, meaning it absorbs water, which lowers it's boiling point, and makes for a spongy pedal.

so if it's low, either it's time to change pads, or you have a leak.

either way, it's rarely worth topping off before investigating, as if you have a leak, you'll need to purge the system anyways to correct the leak, and if the pads are low, the level will go back up when you change the pads.

And now is a good time to mention, if you've added fluid, suction a bit of it out before pushing your pistons back in so the reservoir doesn't overflow, and once the brakes have been replaced, adjust the fluid level to the max mark, so that the level warning works properly like it just did ;)

Hydroscopic has to do with viewing objects below the surface of water, for instance by means of an instrument (a hydroscope). Hygroscopic has to do with the ability of a substance to absorb water.

It’s gonna pickup something like a turkey baster. What do you guys use to get the fluid out?

A turkey baster, generic measuring syringe, marinade injector, etc, are all fine.

Normally, I just squeeze the last drops out.

If your wife/SO sees you sneak it out of the kitchen drawer and head for the garage, you might as well keep it out there - she/he ain't gonna let it back in the house.
