going to redo the big piece cause i have 2 bubbles, but this was just to see if i liked it. Since i do like it, i am going to rewrap the big piece and wrap all the sliver pieces as well. i am thinking of even wrapping the the vent circles.

what do you guys think?

Turbowned 08-13-2012 09:04 PM

Is that matte black or faux carbon fiber? Either way, looks better than silver!

EvoXDD 08-13-2012 09:05 PM

matte black, and thanks!

EvoXDD 08-13-2012 09:06 PM

just noticed you can see the evo glaring in the side mirror jealous of the attention lol

Ha, wow, that is one hell of a glare, looks so jealous. Interesting photo. I also think the interior will look a lot better all black. That silver they use looks cheap and contrasts to much with the black.

Or yu can wrap in carbon fibre

Shinji2787 08-14-2012 10:40 AM

That looks really nice. Definitely thinking about going down this path as well. The all black interior just looks clean and sleek compared to the silvery bits imo.

Though those carbon vinyls also look very appealing... Hmmm... Decisions....

rickitytick 08-14-2012 11:16 AM

it looks great all black! the only parts i have left to do on mine are the door hand holds and the steering wheel. Took me a second to figure out how to get the "wings" that surround the AC controls out. You have to take out the whole center piece. Takes like a min though.

If you want to wrap in fake carbon fiber just find a dude with an FRS that wants to trade for the brz pieces

Think I am going to leave the ones by the stereo. I am going to do shift knob and maybe ac vents though then I'm done.

was385 08-19-2012 09:22 PM

Nice work

EvoXDD 08-19-2012 09:25 PM

Thanks. I think it looks a lot better

was385 08-21-2012 11:12 AM

I'm thinking about wrapping the panels with microsuede from any local fabric store. I can't pony up the cost for alcantara, but does anyone who has worked with this have any thoughts? I may do a very thin layer of foam to give it a slightly nicer feel.

EvoXDD 08-21-2012 03:57 PM

It will not fit back on with anything thicker than vinyl.

I'll likely be starting a thread to gauge the interest of the forum. I've got a lot of experience in it, and will hopefully be able to provide some options at a decent cost for everyone. :happy0180:

Just went outside and looked. I'd definitely have to do it in one piece since the seam between the two is too tight. That being said, I feel like it could probably fit back in with a layer of microsuede. Could be wrong though.

Gir 08-21-2012 06:35 PM

This is why I love the Aus GT model. The only silver in the whole interior is on the steering wheel:

EvoXDD 08-22-2012 09:25 AM

That looks real nice all black. I do kinda like the silver in the door pulls though.

My shop could also did this for some that are afraid to do it, but would be a PITA do to shipping back and forth the parts.

Turbowned 08-22-2012 09:49 AM

Looks good! I'm planning to remove all the silver trim pieces and paint them with ALSA "Ghost Chrome" metallic paint. It should look and feel a lot more like real metal and less like painted silver plastic. I'm hoping to find a way to paint the shifter surround and buttons and re-label the trac/esc buttons afterward (maybe lightly machine-engrave them and paint so it looks like engraved metal?). I haven't decided what to do with the dash portion yet; I'm thinking that carbon fiber vinyl is probably the way to go!

Should just find an frs that wants to trade if you want carbon fiber dash pieces. That is why I didn't do cf wrap because the frs's come that way.

I like the silver there :iono:

I kinda do to. I can always take the vinyl off. I just wanted another small project that I could do inside since it is a million degrees outside

Turbowned 08-22-2012 11:00 AM

They aren't CF patterened, they're that little "T" shape pattern. Honestly I'd rather wrap it in a layer of real carbon fiber, or replace it with a carbon piece, but that might be outside my budget.

jeebus 09-04-2012 07:26 PM

I've been thinking about 3m 1080 brushed steel vinyl...

here is mine,
White pearl vinyl paint match the outside

Korbah 09-04-2012 08:59 PM

I keep thinking that when I do this that I'd really like to bond the two dash pieces together first THEN vinyl. That crease is unsightly and decreases the overall finish imho.

Umm... that could impair the passanger side airbag from deploying properly. The bag deploys at such high velocity I kinda doubt it, but why take a chance?

If you pull that piece off and look behind it, you're not going to see an airbag. The explanation that has been provided as to why it is two pieces is ease of manufacturing. Mine was made into a single piece some time ago:

Spartan65 09-13-2012 11:45 AM

How do you take off the dash to modify?

boyin 09-13-2012 04:56 PM

Are you going to wrap the rest of the silver trims?

Damn you beat me to it, i was going to do either white carbon fiber or white plastidip with their new pearlizer.

EvoXDD 10-29-2012 08:17 AM

I actually plan on taking mine off because I'm meeting Mario Andretti and I want him to sign my dash. I will probably clear vynil over the dash with his name in it to preserve it. Unless I can come up with a better place for him to sign.

Xerail 11-04-2012 05:25 PM

How did you remove the chrome piece's? i'm looking at doing mine in blue, thinking on painting them have any idea's?

I've got a couple of questions
1)what material did you use for that look, love it.
2)how'd you join them? the joint looks so clean. (nice job).

It's genuine cow hide...as far as how it was bonded, it was some sort of adhesive. I had it done professionally by an upholsterer, so I'm not positive on what dark arts they practice. Might be selling it soon to replace it with something else...

Thanks - I thought about doing this, it's tempting! I would do just the dash piece and match it to the Galaxy Blue (Ultramarine) exterior. I don't normally like color-matching to the exterior, but I think it can work in this case.
