What are your favorite car-related YouTube channels?

Over the pandemic my nightly tv-time has gone from cable (which I recently cut in favor of streaming) to YouTube.

I’m finding a lot of great channels, all in various stages of growth. My favorites are Casey Putsch (classic car builds/entertaining personality), Donut Media (builds and interesting historical pieces), and Mighty Car Mods (builds).

Any other channels you all recommend? I like some of the others like TJ Hunt and that, but it just feels like rich kids spending money and pushing merch.

ron pratt towing videos

fab rats

used to watch more AvE, but he's gotten a bit too much "old man shouting at clouds" lately for my taste.

The problem I have with so many youtube channels is their builds are aimless. Their builds seem to have no real goal, are often above their driving level, and seem to be a process of just continually adding parts for the sake of continually making videos. I don't really watch a lot of car related youtube because of that.

I miss the older Speed Academy builds. They were far more my style, the Targa Newfoundland FRS build, supercharging their FRS and building it even farther for the Ontario 1500. The K swapped 240SX(which fizzled out in the end). Connie Celica.

I do watch Driver61 and Aiden Millward for motor sports history. Besides watching highlights and keeping up to date with current motor sports stuff, that is about it.

Kaotic Lazagna 05-21-2021 11:06 AM

Speed Academy! Forgot them on my list. Just watched their 6k sedan/wagon challenge series.

I also forgot to add "The Straightpipes" to my list. Would fall under reviews category.

Check out Casey Putsch. He does a lot of builds that are realistic and he’s a professional driver. Some cars he builds from scratch, too. He made a Bat Mobile with a jet engine haha

THIS!! From a track guy this perspective of building to build is annoying.

When I do watch something on TV, I primarily watch Youtube videos so, here is my take.

Rob Dahm is cool bc of the fabrication and I will always have a soft spot for rotary engines.
Hoonigan is for hot bois although the 'this vs that' series cool.
Verus engineering was a great channel when they were building FT86 speedfactory's time attack FRS.
Speed Academy's track tested anything is good.
Vinwiki is right up my alley for car stories and endless youtube binge.
Unbeaten F1/WTF1/ Josh Revell for my quick F1 news/stories
Gears and Gasoline is one of the best photographed car series ever. Seriously top gear level cinematography.
Jackie Ding for some A90 Supra track content (My next track car....probably)
High Performance Academy for the SR20DET GT86 Track project series.
Subaru's Youtube channel for the Launch Control Rally ARA series only.
Obsessed Garage for detailing tips/tricks. And he just bought an E36 M3 <3
Oren Holzman Racing is a channel devoted to FRS/BRZ DIY track mods.
Tavarish but ONLY for the Cartrek series. His builds are just for views IMO.

Lots of great suggestions here. Figured I'd add one I didn't see: driving for answers, or D4a. He dives seriously down engineering rat holes like engineering explained but without all the math. Also his sense of humor is great.

I also watch smeedia but he's kind of a build to build guy. Very transparent tho and anyone thinking they'll just pick up a wrx and it will be easy to MOD to hell should watch his disastrous 05 STI build "karma." also he's eg33 swapping a 2018 sti, which....god bless him....

NoHaveMSG 05-21-2021 11:48 AM

I am also a big fan of "Kyle Engineers." He is an aerodynamicist who used to work for Merc AMG F1.

Has anyone checked out wesley Kagans channel? Smart guy.

strat61caster 05-26-2021 01:29 AM

Almost always watch:
Regular car reviews - millennial Jeremy Clarkson
Chain bear - F1 technical dives with simple animations
F1 - racecar highlights, ain't nobody got time to watch a whole race
Motorsports NBC - racecar highlights ain't nobody got time to watch a whole race
Eric Kutil on Instagram - GLTC Honda Hatch goodness
Gears and Gasoline - pretty cinematography, grassroots car stuff

Sometimes watch:
Donut - topic dependant
Smoking Tire - when he talks to other journalists/interesting people (Chris Harris, Cammisa are probably highlights for me) or has a car I find interesting

I'm subscribed to a bunch more but my click rate is lower on those.

Don't really have a dedicated favorite channel. But I do love watching Ayrton Senna's footwork driving the NSX and basically any video of Keiichi Tsuchiya. Then some old Top Gear segments.

Donut isn't as good as they used to be imho. I think it's a function of them getting forced to home production due to CA Covid lockdown.

Secondly some of the content producers have got away from their roots of what made them so good to produce something, anything, on a weekly basis to feed the recommendation algorithm which penalizes producers who aren't uploading regularly.

Once of the science channels I like, I think it was Veritasium, did a piece on how to tailor production to keep the algorithm happy and the balance of making genuine (good) content that took quite long time to make vs making cheap/easy content that can be quickly produced so you have something to upload every week.
