Which color will you be getting?

Assuming the color choices will be the same as the 2020 86, which color are you going with and why?

I'm torn between grey and white. Grey because I love how the metallic flakes shine in the sun, and White because the black grille, window trim and mirrors pop more. It'd also be a bigger contrast to my current black car.

I'll have to eagerly wait for more photos to show up on the internet but curious to hear all your thoughts.

Kronk 05-05-2021 06:30 AM

I'm changing point of view everyday... I'm torn too. I'd like something opaque but it's just a dream.

The red looks stunning when toning to orange in some video, probably just a bad white balance of the camera.

Light grey, actually seen only on brz. Too common for my taste.

Mid grey is interesting, a good middle ground between sportiness and elegance. This could be stunning in combination with a black roof

White is perhaps the closest choice to opaque, showing less reflections. But hard to take it clean. I don't know if it can be boring in the long run or it could give the feeling that something is missing

Blue, actually I don't like that tone of blue, conservative.

Red-86 05-05-2021 09:03 AM

I’m not in the market for the new twin, but if I was I’d likely get (pearlescent) white as I think it shows off the lines of a sports car the best, is the best heat reflecting colour in the hot climate I live in, and tends to hide swirl marks, scratches or minor dings better than dark colours. After white, the only other typical production colour I’d consider is red, because sports car.

Having said that, if they release some special additions in bright and unusual colours like hyper blue or bright orange, I’d consider them if they pop.

I would avoid black and other dark colours like navy blue or dark grey at all costs - hides the car’s lines, shows up every swirl and scratch, looks dirty 10 minutes after washing, and turns into an oven after just a few minutes in the summer sun.

Just my opinion.

StE92ve 05-05-2021 10:40 AM

At this point, easier for me to state which colors I won't be getting. Raven/Halo

I don't think I'd go Neptune/Ablaze

That leaves either Steel/Pavement or Oceanic

Final decisions will be based on in person viewing and seeing how the whole package looks.

Kronk 05-05-2021 11:42 AM

Look at this idea of grey (the end of the vid) with some black details.
I find it really sporty.

Unless you go full custom, the oem grey isnt gonna be that light. It might make the black accents not work as well.

For me i think my colour choices are going to be similar to the first gen (assuming the colour selection is the same)

White
Dark Blue
Black
2020 Pavement grey, not Asphalt grey

Of course some of the colours work better on the 2nd gen IMO like Silver and i think Neptune would look better too.

Red.

Would love that but there's about a 0.1% chance of it happening. So Ultramarine with a side order of Halo here.

weederr33 05-05-2021 05:50 PM

White, Yellow, or Hakone/British Green

spike021 05-05-2021 06:06 PM

I love my white BRZ and the new one looks gorgeous in white as well.

But honestly sometimes I regret not getting red or blue.

So I think I'd go with red. It's a car that really deserves a splash of color.

Also at least in my area there are way too many white twins.. We had a meet a couple years back with around 25 cars total, and I think 10-15 of them were white and only a couple blues/reds, if that.

Fun fact, nobody ever forgets about the red car in their blindspot.

If it is in the blind spot it doesn't matter what colour it is!

Around here in the autumn ..

Red, Yellow or burnt Orange fade in well with the landscape…

I mean the point was when you are passing or being passed by minivans. Bright colors stand out in people's memory.

But that is still funny.

And my point remains that they need to actually see you first!
Besides red is supposedly one of the "unsafe" colours according to studies at any rate.

That is very strange. I think they might be including darker reds in that.

To be fair, the article states that red cars are only “red vehicles have a 7% higher crash risk than safer colored cars” so I don’t really think it’s a significant difference. Also, the more dangerous colors ranked on there are black, grey/silver, blue, red, and green. That pretty much covers most car colors excluding white so the data is kinda skewed.

You could just take the "better" list and carry it on down so it would go white, then, yellow, then orange and flip the "worse" list so green, red, etc carry on down.
None of the numbers are far apart really so all in all, beyond some statistical deep diving, there are really no "safer" or "more visible" colours.

As I showed in the picture above my bright orange car was almost invisible from the seat of a Ram truck right beside it. If I took that picture from the perspective of somebody around 5'6" or so you wouldn't even see that sliver of roof.

If you drive a low sports car of ANY colour always just assume that nobody can see you. Don't rely on a colour to catch attention or stick in other drivers mind.

Oh and to put another urban legend to sleep the most common colour of car to get pulled over is....

WHITE

Not red, nor yellow or orange or any of the so called "attention getting" colours just plain old white.

Whatabout a Champagne edition to celebrate the arrival of the New Gen?
Im sure Toyota is just itching to use some of their overstock Beige paint…

Am very likely to get white. I think if it has a ceramic coating, it should be easy to keep clean but will give it that "pop" to keep it from getting too boring.

That's the reason we drive fast and constantly change lanes. A moving target is harder to hit.

To be fair its a neat colour, but when in specific light it looks like a snot green.

I dont think anyone wanted to be seen driving in a booger car.

Plus "luxifying" the interior without changing any of the car's mechanical flaws seems to have completely gone against both its "pure sports car purity" or the "GT car" nature this version was intended to be (which also didnt match the Scion brand at all)

chipmunk 05-06-2021 10:55 AM

So... does anyone have any credible info on approximate $ range it's gonna be?
A local Subaru dealer has a 2018 tS with 20k miles for sale at USD 32k. Certified pre-owned, but still...
... unless the dealership is counting on uninformed people who don't know the new 2022 is coming?

Long way from knowing prices just yet.
What the dealer is asking for the 18 and what they will get are two totally different things.

There was one down the street from me for a while. The colour was fine but I found they overdid the interior a bit.
The biggest thing about that edition was it was marketed to a whole different demographic than the rest of the line up and sort of failed to meet the wants of either group.

Well they certainly were not targeting most of the people on this forum that is for sure.

The Red One 05-06-2021 07:43 PM

Weird ads.

SO Toyota played with the Idea a sport car would actually be wanted in a variation of beige if that’s a “color”…:eyebulge:

That's way up there playing with my sanity just like finding out about Sara N little secret…

I need another drink…

They wanted the 2.0 to exude Luxury to cater to that "sophisticated" crowd so they spruced up the interior and gave it the strange beige/grey/green exterior colour.

But they never tweaked the suspension to match the intent so the thing rode drove just as good/bad as any other twin. That plus the Scion badge itself was the poster child for cheap and would never be associated with "sophisticated and luxurious"

The cloest you get to this intent is the uplevel twins (or the subaru limited models) post-facelift. But even if you spruce up the post-facelift cars it'll never be right for that target market.

I liked the colour! The interior was nice as well except they got carried away with the tan.
Can't have a discussion on the possible new colours without considering the past ones.

The basic colours have changed a few times and there were the handful of special edition one off colours so the potential pallet is much larger than some thin.

Cars are meant to appear smaller in the side mirrors, makes your ole Lava look like a pickup, how strange...
