Does anyone surf? How are you transporting your board on your FRS/BRZ?

Not a deal breaker for me but i'd sure love to be able to find a way to carry my board on the BRZ.

I haven't measured if a 10ft long board will fit inside the trunk with both front and rear seat-backs down? I'm 99% sure it won't fit. Maybe a 7ft board perhaps.

Also, have not see any roof rack options but hoping I wouldn't have to do this.

Thoughts anyone? What are the options out there?

The entire car is only 14 feet long.. roof rack will probably be your only option

Soft racks might work but they will need to be close together due to the short door length. That would make it hard to support larger boards. Hopefully there will be a hard rack option soon, otherwise, but a short board.

I've been searching for a kayak rack, no luck yet.

I surf & bike extensively. Basically I'm holding onto my last car with hard roof racks until we figure this out too.

Waiting on Thule feet...

I think I was able to fit my 8'4" in the FRS car. Not a longboard by any means. I do miss my Element on fun surf days. :p

Both of my boards are under 6'2" so I either recline the passenger seat and put the nose in the foot well and the fins on the head rest (still in my board bag) if it's just me. Or by folding down the rear seats and sliding the board(s) in and the noses stick out between the driver and passenger seat. That way I can carry two boards and two people still.

I've still got my eyes out for an external rack of some sort.

How about this board, fits in the trunk. Walden Tri-Fold

Put down the rear seat.... open the trunk... stuff it in there...put a red tag at the end and tie the trunk partially closed. Hope for the best.

Yikes - I dunno if I'd trust that thing making a drop on a north shore wave...

Harbor Freight has a small lightweight trailer for $175 on sale. If you modify it to make it longer, it could easily carry 2 Kayaks. I am thinking about one because of an injured shoulder and I don't want to lift to the top of my WRX.

How's the wobbling? ^^

I'm not sure I can get away with a 9ft up there like that lol

9ft is a bit extreme. Mine is a 5 10 and I only have slight uplift isues above 65mph on the front. I just tighten the straps more.

Also if it raining, the straps tug on the seals and it will slowly drip into the interior.

SurfAndSand 01-05-2015 03:53 PM

soft racks ruin car and board. yuck.

9' will probably not fit. I think the longest you can get in there is about an 8'8" depending on thickness, you might gain or lose an inch. My 8'6" fits with the rear seats folded, the front seat reclined, and the board resting on the dash, going into the trunk. However, my board goes straight front to back. Maybe if you put it in at an angle on top of the dash, it might get in there. I wish my 9'3" fit - my favorite board by far.

I had a custom 8'6" made for my car - I asked for extra width and thickness to give me some volume back. Fits just fine now. :D

Canoe but same idea..

What feet are those? I really need a way to move bikes with this car and don't want to go with a hitch if I can avoid it.
