My notable observations;
-the rearview mirrors are significantly bigger.. why!?
-no more sharp lines in the double bubble rooftop
-the nose comes down further on gen 2
-the exhaust sits higher in the body of the bumper.
-the gen 2 trunk opening is much smaller (contributing to part of that big leap in structural rigidity I'm assuming)
-what would be considered the rear approach angle is so much greater in the gen 2. Exposes the muffler too much in my opinion

Not complaining, just observations, I like the new look overall

This was a problem in the first generation too as far as I am concerned. Quickly fixed by the $50 knock off rear diffuser; all-in-all a diffuser gives the rear a much more "complete" look. Amazing that the official diffuser cost over $800... that must have been some really special plastic!

BTW- I doubt the factory diffuser has any real benefit other than cosmetics!

That was one of the first things I did with the FRS. Couldn't stand the view up under there when walking up from behind so a cheap EBay part screwed on was in order. The new one will be even worse but no doubt the aftermarket will fill that gap quickly.

Wow this is actually a really cool way to view the differences. Being able to slide left and right gives a unique perspective, props to Motor1

+window belt line is ever so slightly higher in gen 2 especially closer to the A pillar (that little triangle shaped glass seems smaller), perhaps that had some influence in sideview mirror size.

best difference to me is the relocation of the 3rd brake light :D I won't have to delete it like I did on my twins lol

I wonder if that's just a subtle difference in the angle of the photos due to a different photographer.

Because this isn't a rally car with tiny mirrors for formality, this is a daily driver, and big mirrors are awesome in everyday driving situations.

I agree, I think there is a bit of camera angle and zoom differences that could certainly explain some of the things.

For example the inside view shows the rear vision mirror smaller.

Wow didn't realize how strongly I preferred the gen 1 styling until I saw this website. I'm hoping it's just the camera angle or lens on those shots, but the gen 2 looks taller and narrower overall.

Pretty cool comparison shots.

Comparison shots are not comparable, different focal lengths. Most pics I've seen, 2nd gen looks lower to me and same width. Published specs show it 0.4" lower at 51.6" vs. 52.0" and same width as gen1 at 69.9".

I don’t think it’s anything in the physical dimensions. Either camera lens/angles or, now that I’m looking at the pictures again, the styling details. The 1st gen headlights and the shape of the front fender arches gives the front end a wider/lower look. Same with the rear where the 2nd gen tail lights, rear fender cutouts and trunk shape give it a narrower look.

The real test will be what they look like out in the real world though.

Camera focal lenghths are *very* different. The 2nd gen is with more of a telephoto lens, 1st gen with more wide-angle, which is why the front fenders seem to bulge out wider.

I think that picture is a great example of what I’m talking about. You may be right about certain features (headlight height or fender arch height) being lower, but even looking at that picture, the 1st gen just looks lower/wider. That’s why I think it might be the design differences rather than any physical differences, or even camera angles/lenses.

Huh, it doesn't look lower to me...

Here are a couple of front 3/4 shots of each. To me, the 2nd gen looks lower at the front and rear fender peaks, lower at the nose, wheel openings are lower over the tires, it just looks LOWER. In fact I would bet that both the 0.4" lower overall height and the claimed lower c.g. are both due to just lowering the car 0.4" on it suspension.

Yeah I also don’t see it as much on the 3/4 shots. The straight on front and rear shots are probably the clearest examples. I’m hoping IRL the second gen will have a nice low sporty look to it. I like the mechanical changes to the car otherwise. Maybe I’ll wait for the gen 2 refresh to see what changes that brings to the exterior.

I would like a little more differentiation on the headlights and taillights. I liked the remainder of the vehicle.

It would have been helpful if the comparisons were of actual blueprints/drawings. Photographs depend on A LOT of things - perspective, distance from the camera, focal points, etc. It can only be a qualitative assessment.
