I guess that perhaps its not being delayed till next year...
Not that a '21 car in a computer game means a lot. |
If only gran turismo would come to PC :(

You can pick up a second hand PS4 very cheaply these days. Its a pretty good game, average sim physics - but it does enough and its events and online racing system really elevate it into something very good. You can actually have clean races! |

Back end needs work, based on that screen capture it’s a dragster.... |
I presume it's just a 3D model of the 2nd gen, and underneath that's just a 1st gen model with the engine output bumped to 228 hp? We don't have any evidence of any other major changing in handling between 1st gen with the taller FD and the 2nd gen.
If someone is curious to compare the performance of the 1st gen and 2nd gen, and don't care much about the looks yet, they can just create a sub-model with 228 hp in AC with 3rd party software. |
^ Did that when the official specs came out for the BRZ. The power is modified by adjusting the torque curve table - I calculated this based on the new BRZ curve seen in the IP and the announced torque max and spread. Tire grip also had to be increased to adjust for the new PS4Ss. The result: a car that definitely feels faster, and takes several seconds off 1st-gen lap times.

Don't have to wait for long, the GT Sport version will be out within 48 hours.
Grant Turismo always do a wonderful job of making beautiful models, with extremely detailed interiors and exteriors. Can't wait to design some racing skins for it and check out all the colours in photo mode! |

After driving it in Gran Turismo for a bit Im able to get lap times similar to an S2000. The S2000 is ultimately a hair faster but the GR86 is easier to be consistently fast with.
The GR86 drives very similarly to the 2015 86 in the game, just faster. Its instantly recognizable as a twin. Im able to shave 2-3 seconds off my time on brands hatch between the 2. The engine sounds very similar too, a bit smoother but not as different as the Ken Gushi drive-alongs suggested. Sounds like polyphony turned the fake engine noise off. |
Based on the VR video, it looks like he had to shift into 3rd at around 55~ish, which seems to suggest the gearing hasn't changed from the 4.3 ratios of the 2017+ models. Am I right about that?

2017 GT86 vs 2022 GR86 (they have the years labeled incorrectly)
0-60: 7.27s / 6.62s -- + 0.65s 0-100: 18.85s / 15.88s -- + 2.97s 1/4: 15.62s @ 90 / 14.73s @ 95 -- + 0.89s @ 5mph 1 KM: 28.25s @ 118 / 26.67s @ 126 -- + 1.58s @ 8mph 1 Mile: 38.92s @ 130 / 36.90s @ 140 -- + 2.02s @ 10mph Will be interesting to see if these match up to the real world. The 0-60 for the 2022 GR86 in the game seems slower than what Toyota has been quoting, but there are notable improvements considering the relatively low power gains - more top end would help but that isn't how they tuned the engine; I'm assuming it might be a tad faster in the real world, but probably not by that much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwoK_SZt0XE *** P.S. The trunk looks to be the same size. I recall there being some discussion about it shrinking, but that doesn't seem to be the case. |
The game is using the final drive of 4.1 for the new car, using the same gear ratios from the og model.
I customised it to run at the 4.3 ratio with exact same gearing at the 16+ model (going custom messes with them all so you have to configure it all separately after setting a max speed), and apart from the custom whine and the clear improvement in gear change time, I got to admit it feel a lit more like it should sit at 4.3! I wish I could just change the gears instead having to install a full sequential gearbox so I could compare them better. But yeah, its excellent. Its just a game, but boy it felt right there. |
This guy buys the car and instantly pull a 8:12.12 run on the ring.
Thats a very decent time on Sports Hard tires. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFoqpyThKes |

I tried this track for the first time in Project Cars 2 and got 10:30 :D |

Also, in this very video at 0:20 https://youtu.be/QFoqpyThKes?t=20 |
I thought someone from Toyota said they stayed with the 4.3?

Long ago I resigned myself to the fact that for reasons unknown Subaru and Toyota are both withholding the facts even though the cars are announced and have been shown publicly. I personally gave up caring about the numbers, I just want an opportunity to drive one to see whether or not it makes me smile. Nothing else really matters. I find it mildly amusing that people are making an effort to draw conclusions from video games! Obligatory bot reference: find the truth |

That said, Gran turismo gave me a great idea of how the car handles compared to the outgoing model, it feels really close. But a bit faster. |

I wouldnt expect the makers of Gran Turismo to get things like the specs wrong. So the final drive is highly likely to be 4.1 What they will certainly not be accurate in is the simulation of how the car drives - its just an approximation fit into a physics system they have. It sure is fun and cool as fuck to drive the car around some tracks though :) And the liveries that people have put out already - excellent. |
Finally got around to updating the game and took some photos. It's lowered about an inch with 2.5° camber up front and 2° rear.
Got a roller with a clone of my 86 behind. https://i.imgur.com/qlReq2i.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mSy5tTK.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LgDy8nM.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yLoszsP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oYwSfII.jpg |
