No idea how to detach the old wiper blades

They are RainX brand. I looked all over YouTube but found nothing.
Anyone have any idea how to detach this style wiper?

Push the release tab and push the wiper head towards the car don`t pull it away

Yes, that is what I was doing. Tried both directions.
Do these blades get welded on somehow?

RToyo86 12-17-2020 07:20 PM

There is a tab on the bottom where the hook is.
Push it towards the wiper arm and pull the blade towards the car.

It is probably a bit stubborn but it'll release with elbow grease.
I usually end up twisting the blade so it's horizontal and using it as leverage to push to out.

daniloneil8 12-17-2020 07:31 PM

Yup, I also tried making the blade parallel to the arm as I yanked it towards the base of the wiper arm. Nothing.
I might need to get a helper to hit it with a hammer or something.
Never had this much trouble. Wondering if the seller Krazy Glued this on. I've seen worse.

I read another thread that says you need to lift a latch.
I am not near my car, but there is a latch you need to open???

Click the link in the 2nd post of this thread.

Do not click the helpful link in the 2nd post of this thread. It's obviously a virus! These guys are tricking you! You have to replace the entire wiper arm :O

LOL, I already clicked the useless link.
And I already stated that I already tried to push the wiper towards the base of the wiper arm.

Ok, so there is a latch?
That useless link in #2 makes no mention of that.
I'll try it tomorrow ! Thanks for your expertise !

This is how I change wiper blades.

I drive up to the auto parts store and select the replacement blades that I want. Pay for them.

Then ask the clerk to install them for me. The last time the clerk was a girl about a third my age. Did that bother me? Nope.

daniloneil8 12-18-2020 04:56 PM

Yup, I verified there is a latch you need to flip open first.
@Ultramaroon was the only poster on this entire thread who actually knows how to change wiper blades.

RToyo86 12-18-2020 05:06 PM

lol....

DarkPira7e 12-18-2020 06:06 PM

It's pretty easy to keep the OEM wipers and just change the Toyota Sightline rubber inserts every year (slide out/slide in). I changed between the RainX, Peak, and Michellin wipers on our other SCION and found them not to last as long and the plastic retaining clips to be the weakest link (planned obsolescence).

YUS. Stock refills ftw. For whatever reason they last forever too.

the oem wipers love to freeze up at the hinges at the worst times. it's one of the first things i change on every vehicle.
