Well really a subplot of my true favorite reality show that is this forum.

Which is a subplot of the reality show that is my life.

... Is all of human existence a reality show for some advanced culture? Would that indicate that the true measure of advancement of a society is the complexity of their d-rate entertainment?

I predict OP or some other first poster will show up within the next 24 hours with a link to some BS page and they will both be banned shortly thereafter. I'm psycho---Err psychic.

Spambot aside, I’ve never gravitated toward television, but I did used to enjoy BBC TopGear. These days I just listen to Timeline and PBS documentaries while I work. Ian of Forgotten Weapons is really good about putting out daily new content as well.

I don't listen to Timeline but have watched one of their video's before going to sleep pretty much every night for the last 6 months. I just let whatever is next in the que play. The subject matter can vary wildly but I have learned a lot about subjects I had no idea I was ever even interested in.
The only ones I skip is when it is a Time Team episode since I have watched all those at least twice anyway.

Same! I learn new things every day, and often re-learn things that I didn’t fully understand the first time. Impossible for me to retain everything right away. Some are very detail-sense, and I’m not gifted with names and dates.

I've pretty much written off all the fake "unscripted" scripted shows that are classified as reality TV.

I don't consider contest shows (like AGT) reality TV. Don't really consider Top Gear or Grand Tour reality.

I used to watch "Ice Road Truckers" and "Deadliest Catch" as well as a few car build shows until I figured out just how contrived they are and couldn't take it any longer. Now about the only car shows I watch are Jay Leno's Garage, Top Gear, and Chasing Classic Cars.

Shows where everyone is always in conflict or in danger of screwing up, or the boss is always yelling, I no longer have time for. Even shows like Fast N' Loud where at least at the end they've built something is no longer in my tolerance zone.

Other reality shows where it's a bunch of "friends and relatives" that are always on the verge of killing/cheating/beating/yelling/screaming at each other is not even close to reality. No group of people would really tolerate that crap. Same for Survivor type shows. Most of the "contestants" couldn't survive their way out of an office building.

Taskmaster, at least the few episodes I've watched, don't qualify to me as a "reality" tv show. It's basically a contest show. The two are not the same.

Got it, Survivor and The Amazing Race, not reality shows.

Actually, Amazing Race is less of a "reality show" than Survivor, but there's nothing "real" about either of them.

I agree with you completely. However, I do have one sinful pleasure, The Curse of Oak Island. I don't get the channel it's on because I refuse to pay my provider for the bundle it's in. But, several times a year we get weeks of "Free Previews." I think I've watched most episodes from 5 out of the 9 seasons. Enough that I'm missing it, BIG time. My father was a treasure hunter and loved the story/myth of Oak Island. Plus, it's Canadian, eh!
Yes it's scripted and poorly acted but they are really doing what they say they are. I've learned things that my father didn't know and I wish he was alive today so that I could share it with him.
