Costco Kirkland Signature 0W20 Full Synthetic Oil
 

Has anyone ever tried using this oil? I haven't seen it before but maybe some others have.

I use it in all of my cars, so far so good!

Just put this in my FRS on the weekend. The oil I took out after 6 months looked about the same as the new stuff going in....(not driving much these days). I'm not expecting any issues. :-)

I'm working under the assumption that oil, like gas and batteries, all come from the same 2-3 sources and then are given different labels depending on which company is reselling it....perhaps some "top tier" brands are given slightly special treatment from the manufacturers, but not enough to notice.

It's probably just rebadged stuff .. mobil1? I dunno, too lazy to compare vrigin oil analyses

Definitely rebadged, and that's my main concern with this type of stuff - you don't know from one buy to another if you're actually buying the same thing.
If it passes the SN/GF-5 tests it should be good enough for the engine, but for my own car I prefer to pay a little extra for a "brand name". Similar decision making as OEM vs. quality non-OEM parts. For me, if the price difference isn't extreme, I'll go with OEM (or branded oil, in this case).
For oils, the PQIA site has probably the most comprehensive information, if you want to geek out on them.

Since it was my first oil change since I've owned this car, I just filled with Mobil 1 0W-20 GF-6 oil 2 weeks ago to clean it out for a few hundred miles before I change it again to Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 ILSAC GF-6A made from natural gas for running it permanently. I don't plan on driving this in cold weather, so this should work out great.

it's got all the labels of a quality oil. the main difference is going to be any longer-life additive package that the 'big names' are going to have.

but if you're like me, and change the oil at 3k miles anyways, there's not going to be any difference.

I haven’t done a conventional oil oil change at less than 5-7k in nearly 24 years, and no less than 10k on synthetic. Oil analyses have all said the oil was still good for longer. Changing early shouldn’t hurt, but it seems like a waste.

There have been comparisons & analyses of Kirkland's oil on YouTube &, if I remember it correctly, it's almost the same as Amazon's & both surpass API's ratings. I have just bought 2 of these 0W-20 for my next oil change in the spring. IMO, for the price & quality (CA$42/US$30 per 2x5quarts), it's very worth it compared to other fully syn oil in the market for daily driving.

Oil is cheap, engines are not. Use the best oil that you can find that is available to you. All of the research that I have done lately on different brands, weights and grades has led me to the choice of oils that are ILSAC rated GF-6 if you are direct injected and boosted. That is what I am choosing for my engine.

The oil that the OP is looking at purchasing is GF-5 rated. It will most likely suffice if he is still naturally aspirated, but a GF-6 oil will give your engine added protection if you are adding boost.

I'm pretty sure that, for DD service it will be fine. GF - 6 as I understand it, adds LSPI to the standard. Nothing wrong with that, but our cars have been running fine on GF - 5 for a long time and they'll probably keep on doing so.

Personally, i get Pennzoil Plat at walmart for $22/5L. That's about 2X the KIrkland, Amazon, Supertech price, but I sleep just a wee bit better and only spend the money a couple of times a year.

And, I chafe at the idea of putting more $$$ in Amazon/Bezos' pockets
