Fuel Gauge will only go up to 3/4
A few weeks ago my fuel gauge got stuck around a 1/2 tank after i filled it up at the gas station which seems to be a common problem, but the next day I hit a bump on the interstate and the needle read back up to full.
A couple days later it got stuck around a 1/2 tank as I ran the tank down from the previous fill up. This time the issue stayed for several tanks and fill ups so I tried the trick of unplugging the battery after filling the tank again (hoping it would finally read a full tank). After doing this my fuel tank went up to 3/4 and now it seems like the gas gauge has been moving down as usual as I burn through a tank, but when I fill it up the gauge will only go up to 3/4 of a tank. Has anyone found a solution to this? It's a 2017 Toyota 86 with 45k miles. Thanks! |
Now there's an issue I haven't heard of for a while.
Here you go. Ranges from the wait and see to replacing a sender. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110168 https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86136 https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...t=13195&page=2 |

Trying to search for stuff on here is a nightmare. A reasonable question asked in a reasonable manner with reasonable detail gets a reasonable answer. I just don't feel the need to type out all the possibilities when they are already written. Why do you have a picture of Humfrz as your avatar now? |

Oh, for a back in the day solution - OK, just bend the brass rod that is attached to the float in the gas tank, till the gauge reads right. AND, @FR-S2GT86 , put my avatar back where you found it. |

B) Because a picture of my old lady would be inappropriate. |

My comments were in reference to the many people that show up, ask a vague and usually unanswerable question, tell everybody that answers they already knew that info, then proceed to crap all over everybody. THOSE are the guys that are not reasonable. |

Well, you know the saying:
Old people have problems with new technology (referring to humfrz with his lack of avatar updating skills), and new people have problems with old technology (referring to OP and humfrz for his reply to OP for his ".....back in the day...." solution. My solution? Using a plastic or hard rubber hammer, tap a few times LIGHLTY on top of the plastic fuel pump assembly underneath the access panel of the driver's side rear seat (passenger side on a right-hand drive model) to try and get the float/sender unit unstuck. If that doesn't work, pull the assembly out and test the fuel sender as outlined in the service manual. Replace if necessary. |

I hear ya'. I try my best to marry the two in order to be as well-balanced as I can. |
I know this is an older thread, but have you considered the canister vent valve? Our Nissan Versa does the same thing, but keeps clicking unless you fill up really slowly. It seems like its building pressure in a way that the tank thinks its full. Its a new car so its unlikely, but its a thought.
