Word of wise..

If you drive a mid 2000's Convertible Miata with a tan soft top, don't even try to say your car is better than a FRS/BRZ.

Haters will hate!

Depends on context, and user opinion will always be subjective. A turbo Miata with suspension work can be an amazing machine, and can be obtained without dumping a ton of money. Or if someone wants a convertible (since all Miatas are, not sure why that was specified) then obviously the MX5 is the better vehicle for them.

Posts like this always make me wonder what made the OP so defensive to begin with. Did you recently go to a HPDE/autox and lose, or just meet an owner who was a jerk?

I own both a mid-2000's convertible Miata with a tan top and an FR-S.

In their current states, my Miata (no turbo) will send the FR-S home crying like a little girl that just got spanked.

With some attention paid to the FR-S, that may change. But for now, it is my Miata's bitch.

People have to get real, Miataes and S2000s will kick the FR-S in the fun department. I own both before and I have to say that's where I stand.

However, my FR-S kick their arses in the practicality department....so on the flip side, my FR-S worth more to me! :)

Very tempting... but as of right now, I won't. I'll keep an eye on this thread

Couldn't care less about the Miatas...

shadoquad 08-10-2012 02:14 PM

Miatas are great machines. So connected, so agile.

If I had to decide between one and an FT86, it would come down to fun vs. practicality. The Miata is far more fun, the FT86 is far more practical.

I think that says more about the Miata's completely non-utilitarian nature than the FR-S's practicality.

Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other.

FWIW, the FR-S is our practical car.

i had a chance to witness a 2005ish miata with an LS1 conversion and perfectly setup suspenion bomb around Mosport International Raceway (50/50 weight distribution)

it was an awesome machine.

Justin.b 08-10-2012 03:08 PM

You only gain about 40-50 pounds going from the iron 4 to an aluminum v8. I would want a whole lot of tire before trying that in a Miata. The wheelbase is very short and it can get scar when the tail steps out.

Totally agree with you, but there is 1 exception....

If you're trying to pick up dudes... Miata wins hands down.

Justin.b 08-13-2012 11:05 AM

I know lots of gay guys and lots of Miata owners. I only know one gay Miata owner.

As for pickups, load up a cute non-threating-breed dog in the passenger seat of a Miata and the college girls will love you. Sure, you're being a bit creepy by doubling up on the non-threatening bait.... but it'll work. Also, let's face it, you've done creepier things to get girls.

Not sure why all the hate on the Miata. Negative perceptions aside, it's such a fun car to drive top down on back roads, even stock.

The Miata can only pick up one dude, so in all actuality the FRS/BRZ would win in this department LOL :scared0016:(Don't kill me I own an FRS too)

I don't get the gay Miata stigma, it seems the only people who feel this way have never driven one. It is pretty much a street legal go kart, and as mentioned before can go quite fast for minimum amounts of money. I previously have owned two separate Mazdaspeed Miata's and they were a blast to drive, and quite simple to get power out of. You will seriously have a grin on your face the entire time you drive it.

Threads like this just seem immature, yeah have some pride in ownership, but don't be a prick about it. You just make the rest of us look bad.

frsinpa 08-13-2012 11:45 AM

I was making a joke.. jeez guys - didn't realize this board was that sensitive.

KeepGuessing 08-13-2012 11:59 AM

If you drive a mid 2000's miata...You've saved yourself substantial money on the same quality vehicle.....

All while having a arguably better starting platform for performance driving and getting into the sport..

Justin.b 08-13-2012 12:02 PM

It's just the bash thread in general. I can guess I could understand Mustang forums bashing Miatas (not because they're rednecks, but because the Mustang is a relatively heavy high horsepower machine - very different from the Miata), but the FR-S/BRZ comes from the same philosophy of keeping the vehicle light to maximize handling. If anything, the Toyobaru is carrying a few hundred pounds of compromise compared to the Miata.

In any case, I don't think anyone sold their Miata over this thread.

I owned a 2007 Miata and now own an FR-S. I still haven't decided which car I like better.

In my opinion, you have great taste in vehicles to have owned both. And I think the fact that you can say that you don't know which you like better is a ringing endorsement for the FR-S, because the Miata has been the best performance bargain for over two decades.

GNS 08-13-2012 03:56 PM

Yet another quality Scion thread.

Shagaliscious 08-13-2012 04:53 PM

WTF are you guys smoking?

There are more posts praising the Miata then bashing it. Where the hell are you reading all this hate?
