Nice choice on the wheels!

Is the Exige S supercharged?

NoFear99 08-09-2012 10:34 PM

Yes it is. 275HP Custom ECU, Smaller pulley, RLS intercooler etc...

My everyday car was a Genesis Coupe and when my brother bought his black FR-S I falled in love with the FR-S because it remember me my 94 Mazda RX-7 I used to have before my Lotus Exige.

So I traded my genesis coupe for the FR-S.

In fact, at this moment I can tell you I appreciate my FR-S as much as the Lotus.

The FR-S is not a powerful car but still very fun to drive and confortable. The FR-S is absolutely nice to look at it with all the curves and the lines in the body. It is a very modern car that look like a 50K car for the half of this price.

When I'm in need of more power I drive my Lotus during the week-end.

No, no... I wadded it up coming through an S-turn on a particularly cold day in Texas. I had Advan AD08's on there and forgot to let them heat cycle to-temp before hitting the road. :(

I plowed through the best-constructed wooden fence in the world. Every single panel on the car was demolished except for the driver's door. Unfortunately, it was one of the few times that I had a passenger in the car. He ended up with a concussion. He's fine now, though. He's my partner in crime and just purchased a Whiteout FR-S. :)

Haven daily-driven that car for about a year, I am amazed at how much the BRZ drives like the Elise. Well-planted but not overbearingly heavy-feeling. A little more power would put us in the same power-to-weight band and then I bet it'd get even more familiar!

just86 08-10-2012 01:38 AM

perfect drop on the frs and save a lot of money on coil over

86_ZN6 08-10-2012 01:40 AM

nice cars!!

but why not buy real TE37? :happy0180:

Phaedrus29 08-10-2012 02:46 AM

How is the fitment of the 8.5 up front? I'm considering 18x8.5 +44 up front but don't want any rubbing issues. And would you recommend the 235/35 over a 225/40?

Are you crazy ! lol

I cannot afford 3000$ for just a set of wheels + another 1000$ for the tires.

I have a budget of about 2500$ to 3000$ to mods this car and that's it not a penny more than that.

We all have a limit to respect somewhere.

miodculae 08-10-2012 09:40 AM

that is a beautiful combination. i like the black mud guard 'accents' as well.

You wont have any rubbing issue to the front with a setup like that.

Regarding the tires dimensions,

The 235/35 are 0.57% smaller in diameter than OEM. It is the closest perfect match to stock. Because of that I could have installed springs with a 1.4 inch drop instead of 1.0 inch but it will do the job. Just a tiny bit too much space between the fender and the tires to my personnal taste. I prefer the smaller tire profile of the 235/35. It look sportier and more agressive and the confort ride is still very acceptable. Not a huge difference in confort ride before and after, I'm impress.

Also you are better to go with a 235 instead of 225 because the 225 tires on a 8.5 rims will be more stretched and will not sit right and flush to the rim. I dont like to see a big gap between the tire and the rim.

The 225/40-18 is almost 2% bigger than OEM diameter. The ride will be a little bit more confortable and they will fill up the fender better because they are bigger. The tire will have a more straight touring sport look.

I hope it will answer your questions.

Draco-REX 08-10-2012 09:56 AM

The FR-S looks good.

Love the Exige. It really is my idea of the ideal driver's car. The only problem with it is, at my size, an Exige would be tighter than a pair of pants. :P I tried climbing into an Elise with the top on. I banged my knee on the ROOF and decided to call it quits. :D

NoFear99 08-10-2012 09:57 AM

Update :

I ordered 2 x 3mm spacers for the back of my car.

Right now, it look like the front wheels are more outside than the rear and this is not what we want. It has to be equal or the back more outside than the front.

I will post new pictures when I will get my new 3mm spacers to show you the result FR-S alcoolic...:laughabove:

Thanks for the advice...very helpful info. What about the option of a 235/40?

My only concern with the 235/40-18 is that you will be 3,12% bigger in diameter compare to the OEM wheels.

Usually it is better to stay within 3% difference.

It also means your tires will have a higher profile than the 225/40-18. Your tire will look like an all season tire.

Custom center cap for my Varrstoen Wheels ES221

4 Attachment(s)
I'm going to install custom center caps onto my wheels and I have found 4-5 different models very interesting.

Something is missing in the middle of the wheels and the varrstoen's caps are not the same color anyhow.

A custom center cap will give a new contrast and a new personnality to the wheels.

Let me know which one will look better onto my car.

Here they are in my favorite order.

miodculae 08-11-2012 10:36 AM

Lose the OZ.

Any of the others are fine. I especially like the top large one.

Me too this is the model I prefer.

My biggest concern is if I should go with a black background or a carbonfiber background.

black background

Phaedrus29 08-11-2012 12:21 PM

Yup, black looks cleaner.

Lee358 08-11-2012 12:25 PM

Are the wheels a different offsets front and back? This is the first ive heard some one using a spacer in the back because they look to be more inside.

Well just by looking at them, the rear wheels look like they have less offset.
They are not flush to the fender as the front are.

It doesnt mean that is true but I am 100% sure it will look a lot better with 3mm or 5mm spacer at the back. They can take it easily.

This is just how our cars are. With the same size/offset wheels, the fronts will be more poked than the back. If you look at the Wheel Fitment Guide Chart, you'll see that for flushness in back you need more poke than for flushness in front.
