Turning a salvaged title FRS into my track car

Quarantine has us all wanting to buy new toys to play with so I picked up a cheap previously salvaged title 2014 FRS to turn into my weekend warrior track car. Been working over at FT-86Speedfactory for about 6 years now so hopefully I learned a thing or two about getting these track prepped.

If you're interested, follow along on my build.

What are your guys' must have parts for a track build?

I would recommend an oil cooler, AOS or catch can, wheels and tires, coilovers, full exhaust with unequal length headers, and a OFT tablet.

I also would recommend you use 5W-30 instead of 0W-20 until you get an oil cooler.

Lighten that car up even more.

I recommend ignoring all of the above, swap in some decent brake fluid and get out there already. Dont get hung up on the mod thing. You have an unproven salvage title car. Find the weaknesses and modify from there. I'll be that guy. SEAT TIME is king.

Good advice. You can do both at the same time.

A lot of people change too much too soon without fully understanding what they had to begin with. I am guilty of that too.

Op should have a build thread in the "Members Journal" section. Otherwise he is going to get more negative then positive for spamming his youtube videos.

You guys do know that OP is Kevin from SubieSpeed right? Lol

Don’t see how that matters.

Yep, there's better ways to promote your Youtube channel. Doesn't matter if you're TJ Hunt or Matt Farah, just starting a thread for the sole purposes of promoting your Youtube channel is asking for trouble.

Definitely start a build thread since that's what this really is.

Perfect, got an oil cooler, wheels & tires, coilovers, and exhausts components waiting to be installed. Will probably go Ecutek instead of an OFT though.

And I am currently running 5w30 instead of the 0w20.

Brake lines, fluid, and pads were the first things to be changed before I took the car to mid ohio. Definitely agree, I want to get a good feel for the car before diving in too deep.

Certainly was not my sole purpose for the thread. I am genuinely interested in recommendations to turn the car into the perfect track car.

I would like you to change bushings and maybe add some braces. But do them systematically and maybe one at a time, so you can access the handling benefit or lack there of. That would be good info.

Get the whiteline rear diff and rear subframe inserts. Definitely feel the difference imo. Car feels a lot more planted on the road.
