Just making an observation. Since we're all going to die does anybody have anything to get off their chest? Now is the time to say it.
Pretty sure we will all be dead on November 4th and that includes the rest of the World outside the U.S. so don't think you're safe.

Edit: Rephrasing for clarification, 75% of the surface of the planet is water, the majority of which is ocean water, but the planet is not 75% ocean water.

OT, but The Big One that took out the dinosaurs and left an enormous crater over 90 miles wide mostly below the sea floor near Chicxulub, Yucatan, generated a mile high tsunami that swept around the world. There's at least 8 that left impact craters over 300 km.

Consider this scenario: some authority says there's a significantly large asteroid on target to hit earth. Do the conspiracy theorists pipe up and say ignore the threat because it's a hoax? Do politicians say it's under control and not to worry? Is society so fragmented that nothing gets done and we all perish due to tsunami or extended deep freeze?

And are we really all so clueless we really think we can stop it from happening even with the help of Bruce Willis and Aerosmith?

Depends on how far out it is. 3+ years, maybe. Special committee has to be formed, budget has to be approved, politicians need to fight over the name and point fingers, budget approval needs to be filibustered because it doesn't include a provision to use sugar beets from Arkansas or whatever, then the contract has to go to competitive bid, then be protested, then rewritten because an election occurred, and eventually we would have about a year to actually go deflect it.

The important question is will we get asteroid stimulus checks?

Meanwhile Russia has already taken care of it within 4 days of becoming aware.

And Elon Musk has designed a space tow truck that will just hitch up to it, and haul it off to the Sun, using technology designed for use in Angry Birds.

The Chinese will have broken it up and mined all useful materials out of it before the US Special Committee is named!

They will be using the material to make Iphones before we get that far.
