Stanced car
 

I’ve seen quite a few cars on the road with ‘stanced’ wheels, where the wheels stick out the fender with 35-45 degrees angle from vertical. Also seen quite a number of ppl doing this with frs/brz. Like the picture below.

I’ve never understood the purpose of doing this. Is it for a particular type of driving (drifting?). Or is it just purely to look a certain way? I assume it’s not for any performance as most of these cars drive slower than most cars, and as I drive by I can hear ‘clunks’ from the exhaust hitting uneven pavement.

I don’t mean to rip on ppl that do this as it’s their car and they can do what they want to it. Just trying to understand the Appeal of this. When I see this I always can’t help imagine Godzilla got drunk and stepped on it. Maybe it’s for the younger crowd and makes some fashion statement?

But to give you a serious one, I assume the younger crowd thinks it's a way to be cool, unique, trendy, and attention-grabbing...The kind of stuff they enjoy seeing at parking lot meets and on Instagram. Definitely not for any hard driving.

When they say don't go full retard, they mean that.

remember when you were younger, your parents would say things like "don't listen to [music artist] for [reasons], and then you go with your friends to that musicians concert anyways?

this is the aged-person equivalent of those moments. much of car culture tells people that this trend is stupid, therefore certain people feel obligated to do it specifically because others didn't agree with it.

At least those concerts are still just music. This is just straight up embarrassing. No one looks at those dudes and thinks “ooo he’s so edgy and rebellious!” They laugh and think he’s an idiot. They think they look cool while everyone is cringing and feeling kinda bad for them.

Well, you see, jiffyjhn, it all started back in the late 1940s. A bunch of guys were down at the corner garage/gas station and one of them brought a couple of cases of beer. One of the guys had a Mercury and wanted to put lowering blocks under the rear leaf springs and heat up the coil springs in the front to make it lower.

To give them enough room they cut the bump stops off the front and rear and then took a torch and heated up the rear leaf springs and front coil springs till they were flat.

After they consumed a couple more cases if beer, they decided that the top looked too tall so they chopped the top. Then after a quick trip down into Mexico to get the interior tuck-n-rolled and back for an Earl Scheib paint job, one had the perfect car - :happyanim:

Now days, the kids are trying to get their cars really low, but the modern day suspensions won't allow that much of a cut, so they have to camber out the wheels to get the oil pans to drag. They haven't figured how to chop the top - :iono:

I dont get stancing when it's something you drive often, but I generally don't care what people do with their money.

That one video of the FRS/BRZ getting stuck on the world's smallest speed bump was pretty embarassing to watch.

Frankly, I find it to be one of the stupidest trends.
With that being said, to each their own. I will never like it, but I've also done my fair share of stupid mods on things in life. For example: I literally blew $200 on a hunk of aluminum to make my pistol look like the Tomb Raider gun. so... lol

I wanted to do that, well except it was turning my wife into Lara Croft, and it was going to cost a lot more, so I decided to buy a car instead.

Hey now, my first concert was Nickelback and it was awesome! Granted my mom dragged me there and I was mostly interested because Three Days Grace was opening (they were just getting big). The 20' flamethrowers, beer tossed out to the (all ages) crowd, and flashing women was pretty excellent though! Apparently they idolize Metallica and it comes out more in their live shows than their pop-rock music.

That was also the night I found out Staind doesn't only do broken heart ballads and in fact have some pretty heavy stuff.



Back to topic, "stance" is a stupid trend and about the only kind of modification which I will mock because it is in fact dangerous.

#1 - he should have hit it faster :)
#2 - poor guy was basically on bike tires with only like 1" of contact patch touching the pavement.

to each his own, but slammed cars are fun to look at..and when the extreme negative camber follows the angle of the car's hips, it looks badass. wouldn't mind having one just to hard park at home permanently but I definitely would not ever want to drive a static slammed car lol

It seems our stance on stance is that it is goofy, if not stupid. The majority here does seem to be getting older, which is why the next-gen is going to look like a square coprolite to us.

In total fairness any of us that are old enough for the 70s era did stance as well. We just did it in the other direction and put the biggest wheels possible on the back and the smallest on the front.

You weren't cool until you got that rear bumper at least three feet and the front bumper 3 inches off the ground.

This one has a bit large tires on the front but get's the idea across.

All the cars like those I remember from the mists of time could back up the looks, and at least there was a purpose to the look.

Oh don't kid yourself! There was many a two barrel slant/straight six packing 140 HP under the hood of cars that looked like that. There was really no real advantage to jacking the rear ed up so high either. You could make just as fast a run without going to the extremes we did.

This trend isn't exactly gone, just backwards and done via suspension and not tires.
