a picture from another thread reminded me of something..

post pics of the car (or actual car if you can) that you learned to drive on.

pref people 30 and over cuz it's just more funny that way, younglings welcome too though.

Here is mine, my grandfather taught me to drive in Russia's cottage country.

i almost killed both of us the first day out by narrowly missing an 18wheeler in the oncoming lane.. whoops.

1964 Ford Falcon wagon just like this one except with no roof rails/rack, and different wheels. Steel dash, steel steering wheel, AM-only radio with civil defense markers in case of a nuclear attack (all the more seasoned members will remember growing up with duck-n-cover drills in school). Brings back fond memories...

Learned to drive a stick in something just like this...my friend's dad's new 1981 Fiat Spider.

A camry, a '96 I believe, either that or a '94. I still remember my dad yelling "Don't you wreck this f'ing car into that guard rail!" When trying to teach me how to do a proper 3-point turn. Gotta say, not a fun experience at all.

Learned stick on this: Attachment 12380

Also drove this with my permit: Attachment 12381

It was weird, first day i drove stick, i did pretty good, didnt get yelled at from my dad (which is amazing, you should hear the horror stories my mom told me lol).

But the 2nd day i did so bad he decided to have my 14 y/o sister get in the drivers seat and "show me up"... all she did was dump the clutch and smoke the tires off (she had no idea what she was doing), but he didnt get mad at all!!!

Great times!

I learned on my Mom's '76 Mercury Capri II, which was handed down mostly to my brother and sister. The car was a complete turd except that it had a "rolling" light. Some people might know what that means. :D

First day taking it to high school an old man backed into me in a parking lot. Couldn't hit the horn fast enough since the frickkin' horn button as at the end of the turn signal stock. Stupid location!

This.... but black

It's clutch was so strong, I always felt like it could break a bone if you put the clutch in all the way and let it go back up into something. Went to parallel park it once and forgot it had no power steering, haha

I learn to drive stick on an old Nissan Sentra, something like this.

I learned how to drive in this:

It wasn't road legal but the chief police who lived on my street says hes fine with it as long as I don't go off-roading in someones front yard.

I drove this after I got my license:

but I learnt to drive a car on a 2000 (I think) ford focus wagon.

That old girl was me and my brothers' sweat, blood, and tears. I drove for the first time it after we went Single and learned stick driving alone (I also learned what boost was, and how you mustn't underestimate it :bellyroll: ).

I had driven the good ol' 99' Avalon when I was actually learning to drive... Can't find a picture of her though...

digital_assassin 08-10-2012 02:44 AM

LOL.

I started out with my Grandma's car. A 1972 Impala 4dr 400 in the same putrid color as the picture. I grew up in Montana and well, my Grandma was a true Montanan. The back seat had a big ass blood stain from the deer she shot and needed to get home so she drug it into the back seat. True story. The car was so damn big that I could comfortably fit 7 of my friends in it since there were benches front and back and if we were in a pinch we got 11 in there at one point but that was rough. F*ing loved that beast. Fast but handled like shit.

http://www.carsreleasedate.com/wp-co...evy-Impala.jpg

Next car was a 1980 Chevy Chevette which I virtually used as a rally car being a teenager in Montana. It was a stick and it too was awesome. I jumped it and landed on rocks that cut slits into the floorboards and after that everytime I drove through a puddle water could shoot through the super worn carpet between peoples legs. Awesomeness!

Neither pictures are mine but they are the same colors and model years.

My mom's manual VW Rabbit Cabriolet. She loved it, but it was a POS, typical VW maintenance disaster. Electrical problems out the wazoo. The tac would randomly decide to stop working... just what you need when you're trying to learn on a manual! Unless VW has improved (and from reports, they haven't) I have no interest in ever owning a VW.

Learned to drive on something very close to this (yes even that color)

I learned to drive this. I thought it was a curse because I wanted a sports car so badly, but in the end we had some crazy times in this:

I grew up on a farm so I was driving our 1989 s-10 when I was 6; had ATVs, dirt bikes, go-karts, and tractors to make mistakes with well before having my own truck when I was 14 (hardship license.)

Totally jealous of that tank of an Impala.

7thgear 08-10-2012 11:36 AM

good stuff guys, i knew there would be some laughs in this :D

PRORICAN 08-10-2012 11:39 PM

This is what I learned on and the clutch was going out too. I learned to drive stick the hard way! Lol
