Scion Canada's FR-S Track Day

Hey everyone, thought I'd share this vid that Scion Canada put together... Kinda cool to see some honest reactions to the car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIEUY...ature=youtu.be

Chad 08-09-2012 10:57 PM

Cool! That will be me every time I drive my FR-S 2:09.

roddy 08-09-2012 11:05 PM

Cool! I was at that event. I was afraid I was going to see myself in the video, but thankfully, I did not. DjDATZ and trish07 were also there.

ja1217 08-10-2012 06:21 PM

This event was hosted by Scion Canada. Of course they will only show the positive comments. It's called marketing.

Uh oh, the woman at :47 who said she had to compensate with her movement. Reminds me of my Mom when she used to play things like the Super Nintendo. She'd move and twist her arms as if it would somehow help out.

SUB-FT86 08-10-2012 08:59 PM

I guess me and her is different but I never felt the GC steering to be loose. If it was the slalom wouldn't be about 69.3 mph in IL for the 2.0T

I took at as she meant that she was sliding around in the seats since they are not bolstered like the Twins seats are. Twins seats are amazing to say the least.

Jehuty77 08-10-2012 11:59 PM

LOL im in this video, dude with the spider-man t-shirt

I'm not a big GC fan but I always thought the side bolsters in it were more than adequate. One of it's better features really. I'd be surprised if this is what she meant but who knows.

More than adequate for what? The track or the street, cause she is on the track and that's a different ball game.

The FR-S has some of the best bolstered stock seats I've sat in for a car in this price range. They were better than my Aftermarket seats. I'd put money on it though, that is what she meant.

Enemies 08-11-2012 06:12 PM

For track. I didn't take it out on the track but I didn't get the impression at all that I wouldn't be able to stay in my seat if I did. Same for my BRZ. Haven't taken it out on the track yet but I don't get the impression at all that I'd need to switch out to grippier seats or something with better side bolsters to stay seated properly. Who knows, I'm a bigger guy and I sit in both fine, maybe the GC is a looser fit for her smaller frame. The BRZ and FR-S seem to fit everybody just fine.

Way back when the "crickets" issue first popped up, I commented that one of the cars at that event had this pretty bad... In video #3 (slalom) it can clearly be heard over the guy speaking at :09-:13. I should have asked the multitude of reps/execs there what they thought of that. Hindsight is 20/20.

dawsonj 08-11-2012 08:13 PM

:09 - :13 in what video?

roddy 08-12-2012 12:52 AM

In video #3, (as in the third one down from the top). The slalom portion, as I stated above. Ok maybe :09 - :12, not :13.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

They must have provided a list of acceptable comments to make about the car to all the participants ahead of time.

Captain Snooze 08-12-2012 10:48 PM

No, I am suggesting that it was very easy to edit the comments so that only positive comments were shown. I am NOT saying the people driving the car weren't having fun. I am saying this was not a balanced review, it was a marketing event.

no_name 08-13-2012 12:27 PM

Wow, I didn't realize the 'cricket' noise was that loud. Is it from the HVAC system?

The Shannonville track is awesome. I did a race school there this year and I'd love to drive around it in the FR-S (it would be way more fun than my Accent).

Nah, but they had us on camera giving positives of each car and which one we preferred; natch, clip the ones that are positive about the car.

Lina is her name, met her and another guy when Scion had us at the Toronto Autoshow to show us the FR-S. We walked around the whole Autoshow together, and have remained quite close since then. :D Go Scion!

What she was saying and I'll echo it because you really feel it when you switch between the two cars, is that while in the FR-S you feel like you're almost glued to your seat, in the GC your body moves around quite a bit, especially during the slalom. It's that body movement that you have to compensate for. Completely agree with her and when you're going between the FR-S and the GC back-to-back you can really feel the difference; also, the huge difference in weight and how nimble the FR-S is compared to the GC.

They also "coached" us a bit on what to say (or more precisely HOW to say it), presumably to make editing easier.

I'll second (or is it third) your feelings on the GC seats, and add that the whole car felt lardy and sloppy compared to the FR-S. I didn't care at all for the sound (wooosh) coming from the back of the GC, either. I know it has a turbo, but that is no excuse for sounding like the business end of a shop vac. Lots of turbo cars sound good.

The seats in the GTI, on the other hand, were my favorite ones there, and it sounded sooo much better than the GC. There was a nice little pop when pulling a shift, or getting off the gas.

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up.
