Update on my car hunt

Sooooo, instead of going used, i bought a brand new 2020 Subaru BRZ TS. I learned to drive manual that night with my older brother and now I can somewhat drive the car. I already love the car so much. I need to give her a name now.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dee20b5ad6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...28f5016347.jpg

Very nice! Congratulations, and learning standard with the car will be cake. Just be relaxed and have fun!

Yeah it's not an Italian car but it looks and sounds like one (without the breakdowns). :)

I like the interior on these newer models. Compared to my 2013 FR-S, it definitely looks more upscale. Congrats and enjoy your new car.

p1l0t 05-18-2020 08:08 AM

It's a bit of a premium, but it's great to have a car that's not soiled by another human.

Makes me want to trade up, they are way more refined and I imagine it drives smoother as well.

AKITA 05-23-2020 05:28 PM

Congrats! Now don't going doing something stupid like replace the crank pulley! (stupidest mod I ever did)

Just upgrade your interior a little bit. Way cheaper than taking a hit on your old car and buying a new car, including taxes and interest. The new cars really don’t perform that much better than the older ones for 99% of drivers. It’s just more of a new car thing and everything that comes with that, I mean who does not like a new car. The cost for almost the same thing is not the best way to spend your money, but it is your money.

They do look pretty but they are much harder to keep clean and the seats don't have the give the old cloth ones did so they are not as comfortable. At least that is my findings with the Hakone.

Interesting to hear about the difference in give of the seats. Do you think there was a change made to the foam used or maybe your old ones had just worn in?

Worn in would be part of it but I think that the leather and alcantara just don't have the same give the cloth did. I settled right into the FRS when it was new but the 86 has a totally different fit. It isn't a bad thing but I did prefer the feel of the cloth.

Congrats! Once you get about 2 weeks under your belt driving manual, you'll pretty much have the hang of it!
When you're at about a month, you'll pretty much have 80-90% of situations under your belt!

You won't regret this!

And after 45 years you will still fuck up every now and then. Will be rare but it will happen.

Sasquachulator 05-26-2020 12:31 PM

and you wont have to worry about hill starts as i think all cars now have a hill start assist lol.

Ah yeah leather and alcantara probably do have less stretch to them. I like the upscale look of the leather and alcantara seats, but I can't complain about the old cloth FRS seats. They are some of the most comfortable and supportive seats of any car I've owned.

If you turn it on. I turned it on, played with a bit and turned it off again.

I chuckle at myself when that happens - the very occasional stall... Reminds us we're still human!

Honestly, I feel like once you know your clutch enough, that "feature" will actually make things worse/more confusing.

Just about time to leave the family and move on before people start to get suspicious.

Yep, and after 65 years of driving, it will happen even more often. About once a month I'll kill it (usually trying to start off in third gear - :bonk:).
