2017 Toyota 86 Hill Assist
Hello,
I recently just bought a 2017 Toyota 86 and I turned on the HIll assist feature and the light is illuminated. However, whenever I park on a hill and try it, the car rolls back still? the hill isn't that steep its my drive way. But on another car the same drive way hill assist works. Anyone know why its not working or activating? |

I don't have that feature on my car, so I can't be much help except to check the fuse. I hope you get it figured out. |

Thanks man! Do you happen to know which fuse it is? |
If the light is on it can't be the fuse.
The wording in the owner's manual implies that the hill start assist function doesn't press the brake for you, it holds the brake for you, acting more like a line lock than an automatic brake, Quote:

Yes on the hill my parking brake was not on. I put the car in first hold on the clutch and i would press the brake and let go a few times to see if it would roll back, when it did roll back i would just drive it up the driveway. It just seemed that it wasnt working like it didnt hold the brake. |
Does it work on actual hills or roads steeper than your driveway?
I thought the hill assist didn't work on my BRZ initially until I tried the following steps: 1. Enabling the hill assist on a flat level road. Not sure if it makes a difference or if it calibrates the system, but worth a shot. 2. When you're waiting on a hill, clutch is out, car is in neutral, and brake pedal depressed. When you want to take off, brake still depressed, clutch IN, shift to first, then release brake, clutch out, and take off. Not sure if it's just me, but the system didn't work when I released the brake before clutching in. |

I do pretty much exactly what NA said above. Car in neutral, ebrake up; I press the brake all the way, dis-engage e-brake (still in neutral); clutch in, shifter into first (brake still applied), start bringing your clutch foot up to slip the clutch as usual, start applying some gas as usual. The thing I'll mention is that the Assist feature doesn't stay engaged very long. I'd say 2 seconds or so. So part of your issue could be you haven't learned the timing yet; this gave me some issues when I first started using it, because I wasn't "quick enough" at first and the Assist would dis-engage before I was slipping the clutch enough to start into 1st smoothly. |

i just roll my foot while on the brake, rev to 3-4k, and while letting off the brake, dump the clutch and pin the throttle until it bounces at fuel cut.
what's the point of having a fun rwd car if i'm not letting everyone else know?!? |

The feature is for my girlfriend, trying to learn how to drive stick shift. |
I just opened the engine fuse box and noticed there are missing fuses in the car, anyone know which fuses is linked to the HAC?
|
None, it exists as software in the stability control system.

Could issue be the floor i turned on the hill assist was not “flat” enough? |
Look, I just went out, enabled it on my car and went for a test drive.
Little green car on a hill top left of the dash, no other warning lights. https://i.imgur.com/JktWsqr.jpg Hold the brake on a hill and let go? you roll down the hill. Holding the brake, press in the clutch, little green car starts to blink fast, you are now held on the hill, release the brake, select first, and off you go. https://youtu.be/bwyI4Opk_9k I don't know how much the the level, or lack thereof, of the car affect the system if you enable it while parked on a hill, I enabled mine in my parking spot, on level ground. |

Thinking further,
If the light is on and it isnt engaging, it may just lack the trigger to engage... your car starts, so we know the clutch switch works. That leaves only the brake switch. Check that the stop lamps illuminate correctly. |

I appreciate you doing that for me. I turned it on in my garage on a level floor. Ima try ot on a steepeer hill later |
I just wanted to update! It worked only a steeper hill. Strange how it didnt work on my drive way or another hill or a speed bump that always activates on my wrx. But did work on a very steep hill

I wonder if there's a difference between Toyota and Subaru in that regard. |

The icon should go away after a while, and turn on when engaging. Why do I have to drive with an annoying unuseful icon on the speedo?
