Donuts. lol

I'm new here. Both to these forums and the RWD platform. :)

Driving home last night, I saw a big empty parking lot and couldn't resist...

I turned off traction control and went ham for exactly one 360* donut. I didn't want to attract any attention as the lot is across from a neighborhood.

1200 miles.

18 days.

Finally did a donut. :happyanim:

How long did it take you to do a donut from the time you bought your car?

Tcoat 04-29-2020 12:34 PM

I did one.
It was not on purpose but due to black ice.
I am not 16 so get no joy out of spinning my car in a circle.

beltax90 04-29-2020 01:09 PM

as soon as i bought my car new i went to the donut shop to celebrate. i did a glazed first and then a nice maple bar. the dealership is about 20 mins away from my favorite donut place so from the time i signed off on everything to purchase the car until the time i purchased those two donuts..... about 20-30 mins?

ls1ac 04-29-2020 01:18 PM

Boy; do I feel bad, had the car for more than six years and have not done one yet. Also old and no joy.
Do like to go to the track.

Sapphireho 04-29-2020 01:19 PM

5 years, no donuts.

RToyo86 04-29-2020 01:20 PM

On dry pavement, never.

On snow I have a difficult time keeping the tail straight.

Dadhawk 04-29-2020 01:23 PM

Haven't done any in this Scion but always thought one like this in an iQ would be fun.

So you're a tire saver?

I'm 38 and still get joy out of farting so I'm not sure why spinning the car made me giggle so much lol.

Spinning out on black ice sounds like a horrible time. I'm assuming everyone around here recommends winter tires for DDing the 86?

Man, donuts DO sound good right now.

I pay for my tires and drivetrain components. Don't like to abuse them for no reason. Performance tires are expensive. I get more of a kick out of sticking to the road.

Dang. i guess I'll change the little marque under my name. I'm ancient on the old civic forums. I can't imagine what most of these 86 guys would be :bellyroll:

Kind of crazy, the percentage of owners over 45. Wow.

weederr33 04-29-2020 03:19 PM

I did a donut in my dodge neon once. Never in my twin

I've never done any in any car I've owned lol. (until last night!)

I did a handful in a buddy's rental mustang but that's about it. :bonk:

Contender 04-29-2020 03:52 PM

Lol I am 50 but, when I am driving the 86 I feel like I am 18 again. I have done a few donuts and love to drift around the roundabouts hahaha.

NOT on the Civic forums I can assure you of that.
My youngest child is your age.

Sounds like fun. When I lived in the DMV area, I loved doing snow donuts in empty parking lots before the plows cleared everything out.

tarzan_nojane 04-29-2020 08:33 PM

There is something to be said for wearing out the Primacys sooner than later to justify getting a real set of tires on the car.

ichitaka05 04-29-2020 08:46 PM

Let me think... None. Not once have I done donuts on purpose.

Closest one I can think is, I've spun out in Guff's FR-S at 86EXPO autox. Even then, I didn't hit any cone.

soundman98 04-29-2020 10:08 PM

it's fun until the cops try to get you for reckless driving in an empty parking lot.

Smell that? Blecch.

Smells like snooty judgement.

SuperTom 04-29-2020 11:31 PM

If I had a good place to do it without others around I would do it

At some age it may become an involuntary reaction and not as joyful. That's when you avoid mesh bottom chairs.

The one time I spun my FR-S was at the first auto-x with new RE-71A's mounted. Convinced they would be ultimate stick, I attempted a hero chicane exit and spun twice before leaving the course in a cloud of rubber dust with a DNF on the first run.

I never intentionally tried a donut but after watching the @Dadhawk video am in the mood for tacos.

Who doesn't love tacos? Also, it seems a ton of folks are into autocrossing here. I might need to pick up a new hobby...

You get old. You get crotchety. I do think everyone should try one on purpose though. (in an totally empty parking lot about the size of a football field with perfect asphalt)

That's why it was one and done. I mean... two of my neighbors are cops and I know they haven't appreciated me starting my obnoxiously loud civic before six in the morning for the last 10 years I've owned this house... so they don't need another reason lol

Another reason I have no qualms about this. :) I am afraid that I'll actually find some 17x9s that I like and get some 245s or something silly on this car.

I'm hoping NOT to get to stupid when we get snow next year LOL. The DMV area is great for a few things but clearing roads isn't near that top of that list

I wish we had roundabouts that were three lanes wide. I remember where there used to be some but they're gone now and I don't trust myself on a new platform to try to not die lol. An empty parking lot is another issue entirely lol.

evoto86 04-30-2020 08:01 AM

A handfull of times in the wet, turn off traction and around it goes. First time I did it was also in an empty parking lot on a rainy day on beach. Honestly the car is so slow that sliding it isnt a problem. I'm usually responsible but sometimes there isn't anybody around and the conditions are nice and one thing leads to another.

A little water on the ground probably helps a ton :D

Was sort of hypocritical of me since I do love scaring the crap outta passengers with a good departure from the cottage. Not a doughnut though!

Awwww look there's the old girl

extrashaky 04-30-2020 10:32 AM

Six years here. No donuts. I spent a lot of money for tires that stick to the pavement, so drifting in circles never held any appeal.

A cheap slow sporty car that handles like a gokart on rails? lol. You don't have to be old to appreciate that. :P

Ultramaroon 04-30-2020 01:41 PM

Just like most of the respondents here, I'm past the half century mark. Old enough to appreciate how this car is perfect for dumbfuckery.

Hoon with discretion, friends. Don't get caught. ;)

DarkPira7e 04-30-2020 02:43 PM

5 years in, no donuts here. Plenty of time sideways in the snow though! They just donut seem to have a point, I'd rather have a goal if I'm going to play rough

I'd like to play sideways but need some snow assist or rain assist to even try it. Maybe when that lot is empty again in the snow, I'll give it a go. :)

If I could give any advice about snow drifting, it's to be in 2nd or 3rd gear and be easy on the gas. If you use 1st you'll just whip around
