94 octane now at petro

So up till now i thought only Husky/Mohawk provided 93/94 octane (ethanol boosted) fuel.

Then i went to the petro canada on country hills and it turns out Petro is now supplying 94 octane fuel. seems likes its only been a few weeks or so since they started this and its slowly rolling out across the city. And its only in some places in Ontario and Alberta getting it. I did a little reading and it is also ethanol boosted.

Not sure of any other locations since this was the only one i actually noticed to have it (has new pumps too...if you pay at the pump you have to prepay the purchase amount before filling....)

I dont feel any difference with the 2ZZ engine over 91 octane. i dunno, maybe the FA20 might have a benefit since it was made for higher than 91 octane. but then again, we are at high elevation, 91 octane is enough for that car....and as far as i know, some people avoid the 94's because of the ethanol in it.

In Ottawa, about a year and a half ago all the Sunoco gas stations were replaced by Petro Can. This is when Petro Can started supplying 94.

All the former Sunoco stations that originally had 94, that got re-branded to Petro have always had 94 in Ontario. Never was a availability gap here.

Now if you want to use their ethanol added 94 vs V Power ethanol free 91 is a whole other matter! ;)

Wow, that's the chirping everyone's talking about? Yeah, if ethanol-free Shell V-Power 91 doesn't cause that, then forget using ethanol spiked 94. Yikes!

Shell V-power all the way! You mentioned country hills.. I live in panorama

Got the same. Made a full of petro 94 after a couple shell 91 and clearly noticed the difference at idle. Switching back to pure 91 till someone ofer a real 93 if this thing even exist in theceastern part of the country...

brianc 08-08-2012 08:33 AM

The only thing is.. Not all 94 petro users are noticing the chirping. So its the ethanol the culprit?

BioRage 08-08-2012 09:25 AM

Shell V-Power 91 has the best milege and 0 ethonal.

Blue FRS 08-08-2012 10:15 AM

Run nothing but petro 94, have no chirping. 3000 km on it now.

drei 08-08-2012 10:58 AM

youd have to ask the US owners about what fuel they using in their cars....cuz im thinking its more random than it is ethanol spiked fuel.

MY13FRS 08-08-2012 02:32 PM

I switched to SHELL Vpower - 2nd tank now...chirpings tone down.

CrazyWookiee 08-08-2012 02:47 PM

My First tank was V-Power and had no chirping, next 2 tanks were Petro's Supreme 94 and had a bit of churping. Current tank is on V-Power again and chirping seems to have gone down quite a bit.

Derrickchai39 08-08-2012 02:51 PM

Ive used 93chevron no ethanol and switched to vpower91 no ethanol shell, i find it alot better. no chirping

VirUzxZ 08-08-2012 05:50 PM

i concur with the chirping,

First Tank from dealer confirmed Petro 94 chirped
2nd Tank from shell little to no chirping
3rd Tank from shell almost no chirping
4th Tank from Petro MASSIVE CHIRPPING

currently waiting to empty out the tank to switch back to shell

kidgogeta 08-08-2012 06:12 PM

i use chevron 94 still have very quiet chirping

brianc 08-09-2012 09:13 AM

So it has nothing to do with ethanol. There are guys running chevron 94 no ethanol and it still chirps. what does shell do differently?

@ over 500 km or more than 300 miles, first tank of gas from dealer at 89 octane, now on second tank at 91 octane. No chrisping . I will report later if the weird sound can be found. Yes both from petro canada.
