Oh well. Overpriced and makes no sense.

Apparently, the Toyota 86 Limited Black is basically the same. The article says toward the end.

So I guess this means we’ll see Gen2 next spring? Assuming beer virus doesn’t completely trash their plans more than it already has..

Tcoat 03-17-2020 09:22 AM

So it is a Limited with PP and some blue inserts.
Enjoy the "rare' comment in reference to a normal Limited since that really only applies to Europe.
Love their reference to "recent" spy photos that first came out in July last year and mean nothing for a second gen.

Seems overpriced when the exchange rate is applied but since they are not paying in USD then it is a meaningless figure.
All cars cost more in Europe anyway. Need to compare it to other cars using Euros to get any real idea how expensive it is.

Lantanafrs2 03-17-2020 10:37 AM

Bad timing to release a "final " anything lol

The German Subaru site shows the cost of the base model at €34,590 up to €38,290, which converts to $38K to $42K at today's spot rates. Is a $2K difference overpriced? I don't know.

I couldn't spend the time to find current numbers, but it looks like median household income in the US runs about 30% higher than median household income in Germany. So automobiles are not only priced higher at exchange rates, but they also take an even larger portion of household income, which would make them seem even more expensive comparatively. Compared to the rest of the world, cars in the US are pretty cheap.

Calling it a "Final" Edition bothers me if they plan to release a next generation.

Years ago I worked at a television station that had a morning show host who had been there for more than 30 years. Anna actually started as the station's receptionist, worked her way into reporting and finally anchored the morning show.

One day Anna announced that she would be retiring, the timing of which was to be announced. Everyone congratulated her. The news department threw her a retirement party. People even gave her retirement gifts.

But she didn't leave. She stayed on the air for another five years.

The "Final" Edition sounds like Anna's retirement party.

Tcoat 03-17-2020 11:43 AM

Can't quote.

Yes, comparing incomes to costs helps level the playing field where exchange rates alone do not.
Also yes, cars cost more there. They are also taxed at a level that would make most Americans revolt!

Tcoat 03-17-2020 11:56 AM

Can somebody direct me to someplace official that says the German car is actually called "Final Edition"? All I can find are the usual clickbait's parroting each other. I can not seem to find a single reliable source saying that there is any such name for the special edition.

I don't see anything on Subaru Germany mentioning a Final Edition. I only found the Tim Schrick Special Edition.

About bloody time! Now people who waited or thought the car was too slow will wish they have secured one.. I have zero confidence that the "series 2" will match the fun/price/weight ratio.

And in the meantime they have probably slashed the 2020 production numbers in anticipation of people waiting for the 2nd gen.

As ichi wrote before "If you own one keep it. If you want one buy it now"

I have been thinking about the GR4 and my wife thinks that I should buy it but keep the BRZ. I was out in it today, it's a great little runner.. and with the auto-blipping on the downshifts I feel like a racing car driver!!!!

Google heavily biases search results to your area and the language they think you speak. I found that manually by going to the German Subaru site (which I had already been on earlier to find the pricing info) and looking in their press release area with Google translating everything to English.

You are one of the very few here that could even get one. Many would be jealous (I am not one but there are still many)

Do it so some of us can live vicariously through your "I've gone for a drive in the GR4" reports that you'll write for us with pictures and vroom vroom noises.

The sad thing is that I don't use my cars much.. My BRZ (2014) is on 13k miles... keep you posted with developments. Letting the virus crap to settle and then will decide on whether I place an order or not..

Did you think they were going to throw another engine in there for the last year? Really? Are you off your medication or somtehing?

Isn't that what every one says with each year?

You had me worried!

Lantanafrs2 03-17-2020 09:55 PM

At least the "final" designation gives us a timeline for the next gen if we do indeed get one.

We're leaving together,
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown

Converted from solo to two up for a passenger.

Sasquachulator 03-19-2020 01:08 PM

So if i went to buy a BRZ Sport Tech RS (the Canadian equivalent to Limited in US)...i'd have the final edition minus the blue accents on the interior?

Man subaru didnt even try......

So it's really a "final edition" plus "addendum"..

mrg666 03-19-2020 02:54 PM

I am sure they will not fix the torque dip even in the "final" edition.
