KMA KiCKz's 2015 Scion FR-S OEM+ Build ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
Hello everyone!! Thanks for taking a gander at my daily driver build that occasionally wanders the vast canyon roads of the Bay Area. This is the progress of my 2015 Scion FR-S (Est. January 2015) Current State: https://i.imgur.com/AQi5Djt.jpeg 2015: https://i.imgur.com/0KCNmzp.jpg Interior:

=============================================== After owning this car for many years so far, I learned to truly appreciate this platform. Of course many would say that this car is "lacking power" but I'd say its plenty for me. The handling and feel of this platform is amazing as stock. When paired with better suspension and stickier tires, boooiii does this handle like a dream. As my daily driver, it makes mundane commutes much more enjoyable. For now, it is my daily driver that occasionally hits back roads/canyon roads but I hope to bring it to racetracks, perhaps starting with AutoX. I have learned a lot from this amazing piece of machinery and hope to keep it for the longevity of its life. Hopefully I remember to check back to this page to keep y'all updated on my build! =============================================== First Day Picked Up (January 2015): https://i.imgur.com/an5vjly.jpg99 FUN FACT: After just 6 days of ownership, I got rear-ended by a police officer due to him being on his phone. There wasn't a lot of damage, just a crack in the bumper and broken reverse light housing. I was heartbroken but the car was still in great shape. Thank goodness the cop covered the whole thing. Rear-Ended Count: 3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Rear-ended by cop on his phone 1/26/2015 Rear-ended by friend 7/20/2020 Rear-ended by teenager on her phone 11/3/2022 |
love this build. Super OEM and clean!
|
Looking good with those wedsports on
|
Yours is nicely setup
But please tell the owner of the silver to adjust his ride height and what not - all kinds of suspension and alignment problems have probably started on that one, not to mention it looks lame as hell |

Trust me, I've told him  He prefers the "low life" and he's happy with it so whatever floats his goat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

UPDATE
Finally installed my JDM headlights after having them sit for almost a year lol The reason it took so long was because i've been putting off the rewiring since they are JDM spec. A member here was selling a harness that made it pretty much plug and play. Jumped on it ASAP and finally got them on. Definitely one of my favorite mods! I also did a full LED/HID 6000k conversion for exterior lighting (high beams, fog lights, switch back turn signals & relay, side marker lights). https://i.imgur.com/0odYqmz.jpg I removed this resistor since it can effect the LED strip and possibly ruin the headlight itself. https://i.imgur.com/R0eBw9z.jpg Before: https://i.imgur.com/K4SEtY8.jpg After: https://i.imgur.com/RUmYoMb.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oEDbcpn.jpg Since these are JDM, the LED strip doesn't work as DRL's but it works with the high beam for regular night driving. Start at 0:49 for example https://youtu.be/aIaY7hOk0CM?t=49 |
UPDATE
Got new tires to replace current balding set.
Replaced Dunlop Direzza ZII's for Dunlop Direzza ZIII's, same size of course. Pulled the trigger on a Nur Spec Front Lip and TRD Side Skirts via @nigel-jdmparts. Will update y'all once it comes in! :happyanim: |
UPDATE
Here's a part that I thought I wouldn't get since it's a little expensive but there was a deal too good to pass up. \( ̄▽ ̄)/ https://i.imgur.com/Nf7YhuU.jpg Picked up the updated 2017+ traction control buttons. I always thought the checkered flag looks better than the 2013-2016 buttons. These were direct plug-n-play with no issues. Nothing but an aesthetic purpose imo. https://i.imgur.com/pMgkGx8.jpg I also did some basic maintenance: - Oil change (Every 5k miles) - Oil filter - Air filter One thing I feel that is usually overlooked imo is the cabin air filter. I usually change these every 6 months, depending if I use my A/C frequently. I prefer having the windows down and listen to the sweet sounds of my exhaust but the gf insists on having the windows up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also put a dryer sheet to make the A/C smell real noice too :) In the photo it shows a weird discolored shape due to the previous dryer sheet shifting a little. https://i.imgur.com/zf5eBtk.jpg That is all the updates for now. Still waiting on the front lip and side skirts to come in! |
Have you installed the motion control beams? Can you tell they do anything?

I've had them on the car for about a week so far and I have noticed a difference. It's not a big difference but still noticeable. This video sums up the benefits of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9gHan2R9tQ |
UPDATE
Kit finally came in after 3 months of waiting :happyanim: So happy to source out the Nur Spec lip since it was rumored that it was difficult to obtain due to being discontinued for a few years. Not sure why Toyota didn't offer this in the U.S. but I guess it'll make my car stand out more from the crowd. It came with a crap load of push clips and screws but no instruction manual. Fortunately it was straight forward and had a fellow 86 buddy give me some pointers to install it ease. Needed a little bit of TLC but it fit like a glove. The TRD Side Skirts weren't too difficult. They came with instructions too and were straight forward. I'd recommend having someone help you but doing it by yourself is doable. https://i.imgur.com/yCIwF1p.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7MTohmc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1I2Zkei.jpg |

Love the Nur Spec front!
|
UPDATE
Needed a new battery and I've been recommended this battery for the longest time. Is it overpriced? Yes. Is it worth it? I needed a new one sooo... Yes? The old battery was the first one that came with the car when I got it new so 6+ years on the stock battery ain't bad. Took a while for the car to turn over but when I installed the Optima, she started up so quick! I'm happy with the results and hopefully it'll last as long as the stock battery. https://i.imgur.com/BNUtkGO.jpg |
UPDATE
Finally got around to getting my car ceramic coated again. It's been a couple of years since the last time I got it completely detailed but nothing too bad that couldn't be fixed. A friend of mine recommended someone in the area and his work is amazing! My car looked pretty much brand new and I couldn't stop smiling whenever I looked at the FRZ. :happyanim: She silky smooooth |
UPDATE
The notorious TOB was starting to go and I wanted to get it fixed ASAP before it would get worse. Did some research on parts specifically on my needs and preferences. Since this is my daily driver with occasional spirited driving, I didn't want to stray too far from the OEM feel. Due to my lack of knowledge, I sought out a shop that had experience with this problem. Reached out to Neal @The Racers Line for some insight. He recommended the same exact list of parts that I also had in mind. - OEM Exedy Clutch Kit - OEM Exedy Flywheel - Verus Clutch Fork - Verus Clutch Fork Pivot - Updated 2017+ TOB Runs better than ever and I have more confidence in the car :burnrubber: |
can you provide the part number for the 2017+ traction control buttons. Please!

Went out to enjoy the nice weather this past weekend. Here are some pictures of the frs and my cousin's tS. https://i.imgur.com/wZmmJtX.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Q75i2zs.jpg https://i.imgur.com/u3o4krD.jpg |
UPDATE
Someone on the freeway blew a tire on my commute to work and there was debris everywhere. A good chunk got kicked up from a car in front of me. Unfortunately it hit my front license plate and part of my front bumper. I was able to clean it with some detail spray and TLC. I'll keep my front plate the way it is to remind me how "important" it is to have a front plate. Moral of the story: The front license plate can act as a shield  https://i.imgur.com/kQT9hW6.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JrrrzzR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/8Oq6YmM.jpg |
UPDATE
Been a fun weekend of installing various parts that I've been wanting for the longest time. The TRD strut bar and oil cap are amazing additions to this build. The quality and craftsmanship of these parts are excellent  https://i.imgur.com/qttK60t.jpg https://i.imgur.com/RRqvDi5.jpg Shoutout to @Ro_Ja for the TRD door stabilizers and trunk aero. Too good of a deal to pass up  https://i.imgur.com/FayNKsr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/QDzRZZ8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WwMjVIQ.jpg |
Thanks for trunk liner part number
|
UPDATE
Not much has changed recently, just did the basic maintenance and that's pretty much it. I did pick up another TRD steering wheel for an amazing deal. These are pretty rare these days and the prices seem to be skyrocketing for some reason. Glad I was able to swoop another in better condition than my current one. :happyanim: https://i.imgur.com/wAEyMKb.jpg |
When JDM Zenki 86 Airbag?! Would be the perfect touch for the TRD momo wheel. :) Love all the updates!

Got the spark plugs changed and other maintenance done. I also picked up some lock nuts due to some cars near my work got vandalized and even got their wheels stolen. :( https://i.imgur.com/Gebdu2j.jpg |
Tastefully modded.
Keep it up! |
UPDATE
Shoutout to @F R YESS for the TRD Trunk Mat! Been searching for this part for the longest time. It may not be much but it's the little things for me  https://i.imgur.com/lfryzHB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/4dUwgBf.jpg |
UPDATE
Happy New Year! Got a couple things for Christmas this year :happyanim: TRD Dash Panel I received a few gift cards and was able to buy myself a little Christmas gift. I think the TRD Dash Panel goes really well with the other TRD parts I have in the interior. Really nice quality and it makes the interior much better imo. I still find it funny that I got this from a Toyota dealership, shipped in a Toyota/Lexus box, and has TRD on it but has Subaru stamped on the inside. https://i.imgur.com/i4lphfH.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jjo8Lpn.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XoMj60d.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wFJoZEM.jpg OLM "Nur Spec" Style Rear Bumper Lip I've been wanting to get the Nur Spec rear but can't justify spending $700+(shipping not included). My girlfriend surprised me with the OLM rear kit that I've been wanting for the longest time. I believe I mentioned it to her maybe a couple times. The rear is definitely my favorite part of the car hands down. She also helped install it with me. I'd say I'm a pretty lucky guy. https://i.imgur.com/ZJCCEAM.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FRbDrNp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5RwLqy0.jpg |
Looks great, super nice build

Looks so good. Keep up the good work!

UPDATE
Located a set of dream wheels that I've wanted since the beginning of this build! (/◕ヮ◕)/ RAYS Volk TE37 OG 18x9.5 +36 5x100 (Bronze) Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 255/35/18 I believe these are a very limited spec and trying to find this set was somewhat close to impossible. They were discontinued for quite a while and I was close to giving up on them. Been checking my usual sources of parts for years. By the grace of the car gods, these came up in my local FB group. Definitely a serendipitous encounter. Ain't she a beaut (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ https://i.imgur.com/u6giBgd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Yyo5dfr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bGpyr1g.jpg https://i.imgur.com/BtumsL8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SG72PsK.jpg |
NGL, I got a chubby.
|
I was in a similar position as you. I had always dreamed of getting a set of bronze anodized TE37s. I got the car in July 2019 and by that time System had sold out of the 18x9.5 +36 OG bronze TE37s. I thought I would never be able to get a set.
I found a brand new set still available on Import Monster out of Australia. They claim to have had 5 sets of OG bronze TE37s in these specs. I think System claims to have had 10 sets, so there are at least 15 sets total in existence. I went with 245/35 instead of 255s like you. I was worried the 255s would poke a bit. I think I will probably go up to 255s for my next set. What did you do with your TC105n set? https://i.imgur.com/izGA1xY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EfAnsi6.jpg |
Quote:
The wheels did come with 245/35 when I got them. Not a big fan of stretched tires even though 245/35 isn't that bad. Michelins tend to run a bit smaller than what they claim, so running 255 wasn't too much of a worry. Showed a few friends and they asked the same thing, "So what about your TC105N's?" They were sold before I even put the TE's on. Your car looks amazing! |
Quote:
System Motorsports claim the 'System Spec' is exclusive to them. I was under that impression as well until I got in touch with Import Monster. Maybe the 18x9.5 +36 batch was exclusive to System in the US? LOL, I was going to inquire about taking your old TC105ns off your hands! We clearly have similar tastes. There is also one more user on these forums with the same wheels, @Z06ZN6. Your car looks great too! Love those Brembos! |
Quote:
I was so stoked that these were in my local area, about 10 mins away from where I live. Also turns out, the seller and I have mutual friends, which made him more than happy to sell me these wheels among the 5-10 others interested. I've imported my front lip and side skirts straight from Japan and the prices were outrageous. I can't imagine what the shipping costs were to get the wheels from Australia to you. The brembos were also a serendipitous encounter. Found them via local FB group. Always wanted a BBK but also wanted something OEM; definitely checked both boxes on that. |
Took some pictures with a couple of buds. https://i.imgur.com/UQUynCm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/f81bjyS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XiLsHIg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/e40g8Sz.jpg |

Nice wheels and definitely difficult to source (only second hand i believe) due to discontinuation . I am one of the originals that purchased back in May 2018 for this TE37 OG spec from System Motorsports and still have my set even though i don't drive the car anymore. I should've also purchased the +22 but i slept lol. Never parting ways as the wheels are going down with me . I am running them on 265's squared
