Back in the club
Ended up having to part with my 2013 FRS back in 2015. I’m happy to say I am back in the family with a 2019 86 TRD Special Edition!
|
Pics or it didn't happen
:burnrubber: congrats! |
Oh shit been waiting for this one. Was it “cheap”? :D
|
3300 miles on it at a Toyota dealer for 26k. Super clean, almost like new condition
I will take a pic when the sun comes up for proof |
How has the front bumper grown on you? I still prefer the FR-S bumper. The 86 looks like a weird catfish to me.

Oooff I love that spec, with the stripes!

You picked an awesome version of the 86, welcome back to the family! [emoji106]
What are your impressions of the 2019 TRD compared to your 2013 FR-S? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My initial impression during the test drive, and is holding true over the last 2 days, is that the stability of the car overall feels a lot better. Gear change feels a lot smoother too after I dusted off my manual skills (which have never been great, to begin with) off. The upgraded brakes and larger tires are pretty amazing - This thing is stopping on a dime and feels very in control of its size/speed. I was also surprised by how much meaner it sounds with the upgraded exhaust as well. Creature comforts are way better than the 2013 FR-S. It's the small cabin things that I am loving over the FR-S. Push-button start, keyless entry, the additional acsents in the 2019 TRD... and it isn't badged as a Scion ;) Overall I am extremely happy with the 2019 TRD. Before I found this one used with low miles on it I was about to pull the trigger on building out a 2020 86 GY TRD. The price felt right and I couldn't be happier. The dealer I purchased it from was also the original dealer that sold it to the original owner. The story I got was a couple bought it and then 2 months later got pregnant and traded it in for a used Highlander. It was sitting on their lot since July/August so it has been waiting for me ;) |

Brembo brakes and Sachs dampers. I am pretty sure it is the same stock springs and the non-special edition though. |

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the differences! I can imagine going from the RAV4 to a 86 is a big change! I would miss the pure simplicity of the FR-S, and I don’t really like the little digital screen tacked on the gauge cluster. There are so many little upgrades though I could overlook that. And ride quality should be better on a new 86. I also think it’s very interesting the gear changes feel smoother. That is a really good sign for anyone that wants to go from a FR-S to a new 86. Stories like this almost make we want to trade in my 2013 brz and get the latest and greatest. Almost.
But I do like the basic steering wheel and rawness if it. I wonder if all electric is in the 86 future? Saw Tesla roadster and it has 600+ mile range and 0-60 1.9 seconds. $200k Time to set up a GoFundMe acct! |

I wish I still had my original but that set aside. I am glad I found this one when I did. Feels more special than getting a 2020

So true, anything you don't like about this car can be fixed with a decent budget and right knowledge. A lot of cars that can't be said for. |

I’m really torn between going for a good deal on a current TRD (or Handling Package)86, or waiting to see what the 2nd gen will be. The main thing I want to know is what motor will be in the 2nd gen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m totally ok with waiting another year or so, and we might get some official news from Toyota before then. I understand what you are saying though, life is short, and the current 86 is really good. [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don’t miss my 2013 any more. This thing feels so much different from the 2013 FR-S |

That’s what I hope I would feel like also. And, if the 2nd gen turns out to be incredible, they will be available to buy later. I think a 2019/2020 86 or BRZ would feel different enough from my 2016 to justify the change. Especially with the Handling Package! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I do like some elements of the FR-S styling better, specifically the front end and the fender emblems. Other than that the new 86 is better in every way, and a small bump in power.

I really don't care if the car is Toyota, Subaru, or Scion. |

Same for me. I've paid off my car. Only thing I want are minor: Leather Seats, Knee Pad Cushions, Dual Climate Controls, I saw on a friend's BRZ they have a small digital screen on the gauge, Trunk Liner, red intake. I'm happy now since I saved over the years and finally added a turbo. Also gave me time to appreciate NA power. There will always be something newer or shinier. |

This would be my 2nd car (only rode motorcycles otherwise) and first time having cloth seats. I believe I prefer leather since it'd be a bit easier to clean as well. My 7 year old cloth seat has some weird sun damage and I use the sunshade every chance I get. With cloth seats, I have to vacuum but I think if I had leather seats I can brush/wipe. I think I may have to rent one of those wet vacuum cleaners from the hardware store. |

The first thing I did the week after I brought it home was to upgrade the head unit with something not crappy that supports Apple CarPlay. For now I will just be happy to be in on again until it’s paid off and the figure out what’s next. My initial thought was turbo but not sure. |
