Shift pattern emblem

Hi;
A sort of weird thing I'd like to do is have the shift pattern on top of the gear knob made into a metallic/plastic emblem that matches the logo on the trunk. A silver applique that matches & shows other drivers they're behind a manual & know what to expect.:thanks:

Sapphireho 12-08-2019 01:52 AM

So you want to warn people behind you that you don't know how to drive an MT?

1. If you really want that, go have it made. There are plenty of local and internet vendors that make custom badges and 3D printed emblems.

2. What makes you think anybody behind you will know what to expect from a manual? Even if they know what the pattern means, they won't care and will still honk at you to stop driving like a chimp.

What do you mean 'shows drivers they're behind a manual & know what to expect'?

I'd guess that 80% of the cars in the UK are manual and therefore plenty of chances of being behind, infront and to side of of one.. and nothing unusual to report..

soundman98 12-08-2019 04:11 PM

he's in comiefornia. where people get irate over leaving 5' of space in dead-stopped traffic.

i just bounce off the rev limiter once or twice while stopped and people get real shy. no one wants to be the one irritating the obviously disturbed.

Most of our cars in the US are automatics, and morons like to make a game of getting as close as possible to the cars in front of them because they're not expecting anybody to ever roll backwards. OP thinks that putting the manual pattern on the back of his car will change that behavior so that he doesn't have to learn proper hill starts. But it won't.

soundman98 12-08-2019 04:45 PM

so i had this really irritating guy tailgating me in my pickup truck for #reasons. tailgating so close, i couldn't see his headlights behind the tailgate, meaning he was within 4ft of my bumper at 50mph.

so i snapped the wheel once like i was avoiding a dead something in the roadi only just saw. he backed off 6 car lengths. and i laughed

I have a TapTurn flasher relay. Whenever someone tailgates me, I turn the flashers on wig-wag strobe pattern and ease off the accelerator. It confuses enough people that I'd estimate 80%-90% back off.

I spent a week in Bangalore recently. Look up videos of Indian horns. I'm considering getting an Indian lorry horn for my car and laying on it when someone tailgates me.

lol.

i've got tapturn in the car, i'll have to try that next time.

essentially what i said in my first post in this thread-- be the craziest by doing something stupid/obnoxious and less people mess with you.

i just especially laughed at the guy backing off so far, as i knew that he was following so closely that he genuinely believed he ran over something nasty, as there was less than no time to react.

i'm generally not a d!ck, but when i am, i enjoy it.

extrashaky 12-08-2019 07:42 PM

Another thing I'll do is hit my windshield washers. The washers on our cars can get a pretty good stream blowing out behind the car. Most people will instinctively slow down if they have to turn on their wipers.

complains about how people drive in a far away state. then tells people that, instead, they should be redlining at stops instead.

Sapphireho 12-08-2019 08:44 PM

Is OP going to come back and clarify? I'm dying to know what to expect!

Will BRZ 12-09-2019 12:03 AM

Look on Amazon or eBay. They have everything. If you don't find what you're looking for, have something custom made. There are plenty of websites for that. But I am also genuinely curious of what to expect lol

Be obnoxious. Get out and do the macarana if bouncing off the limiter isn't to your liking.

I thought the expectations he was talking about were obvious. I guess the confusion here just adds to what I was saying earlier about how people wouldn't understand what the shift pattern was intended to signal.

jbsali 12-09-2019 04:29 AM

dude, just stop at a red light and let the car roll back a foot. that'll show them..

In North America the 4% of the people that still buy MT cars think they are somehow special with mad skills that nobody else on the road can learn or understand. The MT is somehow considered mystical if not outright magical and you need very extensive training and practice to understand it so it should be feared by the general public.
The fact that their mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers probably managed to drive them every day without issue or fear escapes them.
The ****heads that pull up tp your bumper are going to do it if you have a MT or AT since they just don't give a shit.

I do think I'm special, but has nothing to do with my cars transmissions.

You can't fix other drivers' flaws. My father-in-law is the type that will floor it because the light turned green, regardless if there are people in front of him or not.

My suggestion would be, don't drive where there are people (this is actually my idea of therapeutic relaxation, driving isolated backroads). Or, increase your insurance policy coverage.

joro2 12-09-2019 02:21 PM

I lived in the Bay Area and daily drove a manual ‘91 MX-5 on the streets (hills) of San Francisco for over two decades, don’t me started on tailgaters at stop signs and traffic lights— you learn pretty quickly to modulate the clutch/gas/handbrake or you roll backwards and die.
Now I live in the flattest place on Earth (South Florida, and driving a ‘17 manual BRZ- only have had to use the handbrake on a “hill” a few times in almost 3 years, and never turned on the hillstart assist even once:drool:). I miss the hills.

scotto79 12-09-2019 02:32 PM

Wouldn't people have to pull right up to your bumper to see what the manual pattern emblem is?

extrashaky 12-09-2019 02:48 PM

Angry Hanuman would be more effective. Do not tailgate Angry Hanuman.

It is funny what you're used to. I grew up in a hilly area and learned to drive in my mom's MGB and my dad's manual 1985 Accord, so the only "hill-start assist" was the e-brake and like training wheels, I learned not to need that for long.

Now I live in Houston. I can't blame people for having a hard time with inclines around here though. I remember a Twins club get together at a local hamburger joint. The driveway up onto the road was pretty steep and the smell of burning clutch (and rubber as people just peeled out) was strong that day. :D

Just what we need, a non-FR-S limey telling us what to do. We fought a war about that.

stock 2016 03-07-2020 05:34 AM

That will look good on you! :)

Hi, some people have gotten what I was wanting & others just want to troll. A big thanks to those that got the "auto theft device" meaning. I was just looking to not have to put a sticker on the car. I've had '65 Mustang, '75 Pinto wagon, '73 Corolla, drove different trucks for the Dept of Roads, & thanks to the Army Jeeps, Jeep pickups with trailers & Deuce and 1/2's - all manual - I'm not a novice

If you are so good then why the hell do you need to "let people know what to expect?"
You present probably one of the dumbest ideas ever and then call the people making jokes trolls?
WOW you are a special snowflake.
