Ford Mach-E
I get Ford's intention with the design, but it just doesn't work for me. If the Mustang didn't exist, and this SUV had different tail lights and didn't have the running horse then I think it would work for me, but the styling is hard to get past, yet I do like the interior; they did a good job with the layout and design there. I suppose it wouldn't be hard to debadge the car and get some aftermarket tail lights.

Yeah I dont get the mustang association but then again I dont get a lot of things lol. Either way in 10 years from now these things will probably be all over the place whether I buy the mustang lineage or not.

This must be so embarrassing for Mustang owners. No more SUV, CUV, any kind of UVs.

um... do you honestly thing Mustang owners would be embarrassed by this? They're already the butt of jokes. Now, the crowds'll never hear it coming is all. |

Slap a bush bar on this thing and nobody's safe! :confused0068: Mustang, seriously? |
Trash.

This just makes me want to buy a V-8 before they are totally banned

This was discussed a bit in Random Thoughts but to summarize the thoughts there...
It shouldn't be called a Mustang anything, and particularly a "Mach". The "radiator blank" in the front is stupid, what the hell were they thinking? There was no reason they couldn't create a design without that flat area. The interior gets mixed reviews. Personally I wouldn't buy it for that one reason. I don't like the "stuck on iPad" look. The screens are OK but they should be integrated into the dashwork and not superglued to the outside. Others like it or could tolerate it. For a "family car" the range is OK but would be better if higher, the recharge rates sucks but that's not unique to Ford. |
Also as stated in Random, they have tried messing with the Mustang name in the past. It failed miserably when the public started to scream!

The resulting Probe model was actually a pretty decent car for a FWD coupe and paved the way for many of the later performance FWD market to produce more than just econobox people movers. Sure as hell wasn't a Mustang any more than this concept EV is though. |

Or did they just share parts and made their own car? |

I mean, the Mustang is already an overweight numb boat that markets to people who don't know any better. I suppose this is no worse.

It looks a little funky to me, but that's to be expect with EVs. The different trims and pricing seem spot-on too. I'm happy they went with a dedicated platform as well. Beating Honda and Toyota to market with it is good too. Kudos to Ford if they can launch it without major recalls.
Also, not letting the Mustang nameplate fall into obscurity is smart. Sales will only continue to slide for the Mustang, and no hybrid or electric versions will save it. Taking advantage of the brand recognition is wise and people will eventually forget that the Mustang was ever just a RWD 2-door sports car. I guess it is more a question of how many more nameplates will land with Mustang badging, and for how long. Does Ford eventually make Mustang a performance trim level? Anyway, I'm going to lawl when the first videos of the Mach-e GT start going around showing it beating up on GT350s, and GT500s that can't get traction. |

Personally I have no love of the Mustang name so don't care but still don't see it going over well. Introducing the 2021 Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ https://motorillustrated.com/wp-cont...tor-Show-9.jpg |
I can see why they used the Mustang nameplate. Plenty of marketing and clout that come free with the name usage, instead of trying to make a new name and a new legacy. I'm looking forward to seeing these vs. the Tesla Model 3 at AutoX.
I'm just glad there's finally what I would consider a true competitor for Tesla in the "cheaper" end of the electric market. Competition is a good thing for the market. |
As long as the Mustang Mach-E maintains core aspects of the Mustang brand, it should be fine. Porsche, Lamborghini, and Jeep all have used a brand name on a vehicle type that was unthinkable for it, as well. Remember when Porsche fans were all up-in-arms by the Cayenne SUV? But since Porsche still makes sports cars like the 911, Porsche can call the Cayenne "The Porsche of SUVs".
The Mach-E retains the performance aspects of the Mustang brand, and the idea is that name recognition of the Mustang brand will draw people in. With that being said, we will still have to see if this will be a success or a flop. Nonetheless, it's a good thing for the automotive industry in general. Here's an interesting read. |

People are not stupid and saying this is a Mustang will not fly with Mustang fans. |

Kind of stupid to slap the Mustang name on this. They could have simply called it Mach-E if they wanted to keep it somewhat related to the Mustang. This is no better than the Eclipse Cross.
With that being said, I'm going to play angel's advocate here and say that at least Mustang fans still have the Mustang. They aren't making this the main Mustang model (and hopefully never will). The way I look at it, if I were a Mustang owner, I'd be thrilled to buy this as a daily driver and save the actual Mustang (and the gas money for it) for weekends. Quote:

I am not a Ford nor Mustang fan and the whole idea is just ludicrous to me so I can’t even imagine what they think of this hair brained badging. |
Quote:
But "OH I really want that sports car but since that EV has the same badge I am going for that instead" probably isn't going to be said often. If it is a good vehicle then it will sell on it's merits but slapping a pony on the front isn't going to fool a single buyer. I highly doubt many walk into a dealer looking fr a 911 and walk out with a Cayenne instead. |

Then the next generation came and didn't want the old station wagon, so we renamed them. Just the old station wagon. Boring. |

Seems like a total cock-up in terms of marketing.
Mustang = old-school gas-guzzling V-8 Electric car buyers = want to feel "holier than thou" compared to petrol-burning drivers Calling this new thing a "Mustang" doesn't seems like it wouldn't appeal to either. |
admittedly it looks alright, at least in comparison to other CUV/SUVish EVs....and even though everyone has already mentioned this, I feel like I need to also poke fun of the name. The Mach-E name was fine on its own but adding Mustang is so desperate to me when it has absolutely no ties to a 2 door sports/muscle car lol... Guess Ford thinks it won't be that big of a hit so they need every desperate marketing ploy possible and a well timed "leak" to generate hype..smh..
|
I just want to know this...
If this is a "Mustang", does that mean the fleet average for all "Mustangs" now include this EV EPA rating as well as the ICE "Mustangs"? If so, that sounds like a winner in the game of emissions. |

Man this guy got it. Don’t really like posting videos like this on here, but I think he summed it up perfectly in this video. |
Quote:
That part reminds me of the new-ish Porsche Taycan. The "slow" one is called "Taycan Turbo" and the faster one is called "Taycan Turbo S". Porsche says it has nothing to do with a model having a turbo or not but is a model classifier. That is, if the model has Turbo in its name then it is fast and calling a model Turbo S means it's even faster regardless that the Taycan is an all electric vehicle. Good ol' marketing department. |

I will look this up later to provide more facts. However, if it is the case that the exception cannot be used (or not desired to be used) for the "Mustang" any longer, then just throw in something that will get 150 eMPG into the same model and bam -- you have satisfied the `rules`. I think there is more to the naming than just word-of-mouth hype. |
Of course, it's not like Ford hasn't done something similar in the past. The Thunderbird is a good example. What started off as a nice two-door sports car/roadster eventually became a 4 door behemoth. They scaled it up basically to protect the Mustang so maybe what goes around comes around.
At least the 4-door Thunderbird had suicide doors, so there was some redeeming coolness in that. |
