Any "older" BRZ/86 drivers here?
I just (finally!) bought a BRZ, and was curious if there are any other 'older' drivers here (searched but couldn't find a thread on the topic).
At 62, I suspect I'm probably one of the older (if not oldest) people here. I read recently that the median age of BRZ/86 buyers was 36, compared to 60 for Miata buyers. So how about it? Anyone else out there? Am I the only 60-something BRZ owner in the world? (Excuse me while I go chase some neighborhood kids off my lawn). |
I'm not quite 62 at 46, but I'll help you chase those kids off your lawn. :)

52 as of last Saturday...

Hate to break it to you but at 62 you are not even close to being the oldest here. In fact of the regulars you are probably right in the middle. There are dozens of us in the 60 plus range. Got me beat by a couple of years though.
The demographic that buys these cars new is far older than you would think. The age gap is widening as the used ones get cheaper though. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102562 https://services.edmunds-media.com/i....by.gender.jpg |
There is quite a few geezers on here. They seem to be some of the most active on here actually.

Well, I'm older than you, and my son just bought a Miata. Go figure. BTW, his Miata was the first I've driven, and it is impressive. There are things Miata does better than ours, engine response and midrange grunt for one, IMO. |

Many are retired. Those that are not are coming to the end of their careers and are high enough in the food chain that there is nobody watching them real close anymore. I am very good at my job and that gives me gaps in my day that I have to fill some how. We also no longer have dating, going out with friends or other such social obligations which frees up some time. I am rarely ever just sitting here staring at the screen (I know it seems that way) but will almost always be doing something else as well. |
I'm thinking I'll be 60 when the itb testing thread shows na results

30 here
Oh... wait nvm this is for old people. Do gray hairs in my beard count? |

Not the oldest buy a lot, 73.
Still drive the tracks, but I am getting slower. |
Hi there, Analogman. I'm 65 and loving my FRS! There's plenty of oldsters on this forum. By the way, are you a fan of Joe Walsh - just wondering because his latest album has a cut called Analog Man - written with his good buddy Jeff Lynne (of Traveling Wilburys fame) and my favorite recording artist of all time. Anyway, enjoy your 86, and welcome to the forum!

My boss tells me what needs to be done.
I tell others to do it. After that it's coffee and internets, maybe some netflix, a gym session, maybe a walk around to see what's happening, after that it's back to the internets until it's time to knock off. Rinse and repeat. I'm taking early retirement next year, if the Mrs lets me, she a fair bit younger than me and thinks I'll get myself into mischief with too much free time, I'm gonna need to get a real hobby to fill in the days, there is only so much web surfing you can do. |

winstonscifi, I'm a Joe Walsh fan, but that's not where my handle came from. I just picked it because in some things, I'm kind of an anti-technology neo-Luddite (despite having worked in cutting-edge biotechnology my entire life), though I am a huge scifi fan (which I assume you might be as well from your handle). I like to keep car things simple, and don't like technology just for technology's sake (but passionately embrace it if there's a need for and genuine value to it). Simple automotive systems tend to be more reliable, and easier to fix when they break. I only drive manual transmissions, am not a fan of Teslas, avoid things like 'drive by wire steering', and prefer a carburetor over fuel injection. I prefer a level of tech in a car that I'm comfortable working on. I have and listen to vacuum-tube radios and stereo, and we have two rotary-dial phones in our house (one 1919, one 1939) that work perfectly. I've never cared what others think about what I drive, if my car is 'faster' than theirs, or what the "numbers" are. What's important to me is how I like the car, how it feels to drive it (and of course what my wife thinks; I didn't get a Corvette because she refuses to ride in one). You're only young once, but immaturity can last forever. |

52 here.
As I approach the retirement zone I realize that some people really need a job or at least "a purpose" when they retire or else they stagnate. Others thrive after retiring and beginning full time recreating. I don't know which type I am yet. |

http://winstonscifi.blogspot.com/ I have sold and traded all of the books in the series over the years. Good to see others remember them fondly. |
I bought my FR-S 10 Series last year a couple of months before I turned 62. Just recently turned 63. You never grow too old to have and enjoy a fun car.
