How does the powered rear view mirror work?
I wanted to flip the mirror when headlights are blinding me. Owner's manual shows traditional flip type mirror. My BRZ mirror doesn't have that. There is a power button. When I press it, I don't see any difference in the mirror. What is the deal? Broken? Garbage gimmick? Tear it out and install a normal mirror? Piece of crap mirror rattles anyway, and can't even be adjusted. Literally the worst rear view mirror EVER

Page 70 of the owner manual. It is auto dimming so when powered up it will dim when there are bright lights. You won't see anything just pushing the button. If it doesn't dim when turned on and bright lights come up behind you it is broke.

GrantedTaken has also started a thread describing the brake pads as the "worst design ever". Seriously, if you are so unhappy with the design of this automobile, you might consider selling it and buying something that is more suited to your design criteria. Perhaps a Toyota Camry? It's pretty well designed, and very popular....

It's threads like these that keep me coming back to ft86club.com

but i have the homelink auto dimming mirror in the brz, and added it to my ranger. not having to put a garage door opener in the car is great. overall though, the dimming is enough for me. the ranger required some tape over the sensor to dim correctly being installed in a different vehicle. |
Do you by chance have window tint blocking or preventing the sensor from auto dimming when being hit by light?

The fucking mirror has a POWER BUTTON |

Are these things known to break? When I pressed the power on, nothing changed. The bright light was still blinding me. What a pathetic joke. I got the BRZ since its the epitome of UNDER ENGINEERED. Then they add some bullshit busted mirror, instead of using the basic lightweight 100 year old design that aint broke. |

Hmmm, 5% tint in all my rear windows so I never have issues with anybody blinding me from behind. Forget that rear view mirror
is even there most of the time because at night it's useless. The key is also to never let anybody get behind you. When they sneak back there, just floor it until you don't see any more headlights and you lose them. 60% of the time, it works every time. |

They are usually referred to as Auto Dimming mirrors. And the dimming effect won’t be as noticeable as the traditional flip down rear view mirror. It should still prevent excessive glare from traffic behind you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Lame thread. The "worst brakes" one was fresh and new, but now you're just recycling old jokes. Get some fresh material.

I think I have a solution:
In the forum's User CP, under "Settings and Options", select "Edit Ignore List". Type "GrantedTaken" into the little box and boom - no more issues! Best forum ever. |

Auto-dimming mirrors usually have two photo sensors, one looking forward and one to the rear. The forward sensor determines the daytime\nighttime operation of the mirror by monitoring long-term ambient brightness. The darker it is outside the darker it makes the mirror.
The rear sensor is to detect headlights from behind. If the front sensor says it's nighttime (dark outside) and the rear sensor detects headlights from behind the idea is to further darken the mirror and reduce glare. Personally I've never had an auto-dimmer that went dark enough or even close to a manual dimmer. You can try covering the front sensor with tape of varying opacity to trick that sensor into thinking it is darker outside and dimming more. Black electrical tape would provide the most extreme dimming. Unfortunately, even the most extreme auto-dimming doesn't seem to be as good as a manual dim. If the rear window has a dark factory tint (or more) then auto-dim might be sufficient. As for the button on the mirror, it turns auto-dim on or off but it's a gradual process and not readily apparent. |

If he is trolling as a joke it isn't working (too subtle maybe?) and if he is serious then he can just go and intercourse himself from here on out. |

I’m not sure what’s worse, if this person is trolling, or that frustrated with his car. Or her car, or it’s car, I don’t want to discriminate. [emoji28]
