If you won the lottery would you keep your 86/BRZ?

No I haven’t won the lottery, but there is a $100 million dollar jackpot here tomorrow night and I often ask myself this question when buying a ticket. My answer is yes I’d keep it. I love my BRZ, the fun to drive factor, “chuckability” around corners, I think I’d miss it too much. But I’d definitely add a few cars to my collection.

FD RX-7 Spirit R or RZ.
WRX STI 22B
Porsche 911 GT3 or Cayman GT4 or both. :D

Goes to show how good a car it is when money doesn’t come into it, well IMO anyway. What are your thoughts?

new2subaru 09-11-2019 07:46 AM

Absolutely, but it would accelerate my current build and do a complete track car.

Definitely would add a couple of cars starting with an Alfa 4C and an Elise.

Jesse36m3 09-11-2019 08:00 AM

yeah, I would keep it. Just make it better.

why? 09-11-2019 08:24 AM

Absolutely I would keep it. I would Carbon Fiber everything, and make it as light as possible.

Dirty Harry 09-11-2019 08:35 AM

Yeah I hadn’t thought about mods, I’d definitely add a few more, now I just have to win tomorrow night...

Tcoat 09-11-2019 09:40 AM

If I won $1 million I would still have it.
If I won a $100 million.

Shouldn't it be this color?

Sapphireho 09-11-2019 10:18 AM

I would keep it. I would just have a bigger garage and more cars.

I would take my old 911 to Canepa and say, "make it new, and swap in a 993 engine and 6 speed."

DarkPira7e 09-11-2019 10:27 AM

Most definitely, and I'd try to dedicate time/$ to researching new stuff for this platform. I want to be an innovation expert but have 0 funding! Haha

Tcoat 09-11-2019 10:43 AM

Not sure why anybody with $100 million feels they need to modify a cheap car to try to make it what you can buy off the shelf for more money. Buy the expensive one and then modify it to even greater limits don't mess around with the cheap stuff.

But the cheap stuff is fun

RToyo86 09-11-2019 11:31 AM

I'd Likley keep it for a track toy to abuse.

I'd buy the car I've always wanted, and the newest one to match.

https://inventory-dmg.assets-cdk.com...9652273126.jpg

Then I'd winter drive one of these to flex on winter beaters.

Takumi788 09-11-2019 11:33 AM

With all that money why would you need to sell it?

From a track car perspective: I see people with more money than god show up to track days with high dollar cars. If they get hooked on the track life they eventually realize they made a HUGE mistake. Depending on their skill level they usually purchase another car like a Miata, FRS/BRZ, E36 or Corvette to replace the high dollar car on track. With that money those cars are disposable and maintenance/tires cost less than their favorite bottle of whiskey.

If I won, I would keep mine. Mainly for nostalgia reasons. I would continue to track it sometimes. But I would also quickly purchase a ELAN NP01 prototype to track as well. Along with a SLEW of janky 90s JDM cars for street use/fun.

Will BRZ 09-11-2019 11:39 AM

I would totally keep it and build it. I don’t see anything wrong with liking a platform and building it to its potential. As much as I don't want to go the classic "I'm rich now let me buy a Lamborghini" route, it's hard not too lol if I had the money, I'd definitely buy things I wouldn't have been able to experience otherwise like McLaren, Ferrari etc. Maybe some classics like a Supra or RX7

If you win tomorrow, don't forget who was good to you here :bellyroll:

Yes, me too. I would re-create a few of my favorite cars from the 90's. I don't want to stroll down memory lane; I want to Cruise down it!!!

I would also pick up an old 3.2l 6-speed targa NSX. Preferably in silver:party0030:. I have always wanted one.

^^^Me too, except white. This would be one of my first purchases.

I have also thought that if I ever come into a bunch of money that I would purchase every single version of the 240sx in white. S13:coupe-vert-hatch S14: zenki-kouki, and s15. Then an R32. And I would build a Nissan D21 pickup with a RB. Oh man. I have to work harder.

Dadhawk 09-11-2019 12:34 PM

First call (well automotively anyway, as it wouldn't be my first priority) is a call to become a member of AMP. Then there'd be an open call on here for the first annual DadHawk Track Day, Run What You Brung event.

I'd keep the FR-S and MomHawk's '05 Mustang (she wouldn't give it up, I've tried to upgrade her). We'd upgrade the family/vacation hauler from our '04 Suburban, but honestly not sure to what. A Suburban RST/Z71 would be tempting though.

Then I'd buy the GM Dynamic Duo for myself (C8 and a V Series Coupe) as my daily drivers.

After that, I'd have to upgrade my hangar before looking at some classic cars.

Not that I've thought about this or anything....

See that is my point. Nothing wrong with liking a platform nor working to “better” it but people’s outlooks would change quickly if they actually had the cash on hand. I will bet a beer that the majority of the guys saying they would keep it would leave it in a hurry if they had that sort of money dumped in their lap.

Yea, I agree. I'd keep it just because I don't have a compelling reason to sell it, but it would not be my primary car any longer, and I would maintain it, not build it.

I would not sell mine either. I would give it away to some worthy youngster that I felt was deserving. If I have $100 million I am not going to worry about selling a $12,000 used car.

Watch for my thread when I win big!

James H 09-11-2019 01:25 PM

Will keep my BRZ. Funny thing is none of the dream cars I want are the new high power heavy weight techno turds like the McLaren, 488, Aventador. I love to get my hands on 308 , air cooled 911 turbo, and a GT40 replica. $100 million will get you a ticket back to the golden era of motoring!

I would have a stable full of cars that I used too own or wanted back in the day. All pre 1971 and all American starting with the whole 1970 Mopar line up.

Yea, I've said on here before my idea of a car collection would be starting with one "reasonably priced car" that I drooled over from every decade I've been alive. After that, I'd want to work may way back through the timeline from 1979 to 1901.

Well I wouldn't go that far back but with that sort of money all the sky would be the limit.

Hadn't even thought of movie cars, but I'm with you. If we hit at the same time I'll get this and we can trade off on occasion.

Well, that one may be a bit much even if I had $100M (not sure I want to sink 4% of my net worth in a car) so maybe I'll buy some thing close that probably drives better anyway.

EAGLE5 09-11-2019 02:34 PM

I'd keep it.

There is already one of those driving around London so it is way too common for me!

Summerwolf 09-11-2019 02:54 PM

It would stay in the barn while I drive any of the multitude of other cars. Could build a helluva z06 for 120 all in.

Maybe I'd actually have time to drive my cars too after hiring an Au Pair.

That's true. Heck I know a guy that owns one here (although not quite this quality or originality).

jflogerzi 09-11-2019 04:36 PM

Keep it as a dedicated track car. Full build with LS Swap or Turbo and built motor, cage strip interior... the whole nine yards

7 skulls 09-11-2019 06:39 PM

Keep it and supercharge it with a fully built motor then park it next to my new 812 superfast.

HKz 09-11-2019 06:52 PM

I definitely would keep her and I would get another one as an engine swap project to have fun building it with my son and my old man....and a LFA sitting alongside them of course :D

wbradley 09-11-2019 06:59 PM

Immediately purchase a Corvette Z08 or whatever the top model is or will be. And a Land Rover supercharged for winter and family. The Scion would get tucked away in a multi vehicle garage to be used whever I felt nostalgic.

Yeah the JDM classics would be at the top of my list. A normal FD is attainable now but I'd be too scared to have it as my only car and I don't want to pay for two cars. Spirit Rs are pretty expensive.

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/maz...r-type-a-badge

I like Audi R8s too, that'd be a cool exotic to own.

botbs 09-11-2019 08:19 PM

Synergy V8 engine swap :)

right up my alley!

i'd keep the brz. i like the modern parts like a/c, and no distributors or carbs, and it works every time i turn the key.

but i have an addiction to the weird and quirky, so while barrett jackson would have my name, i would probably do more with duncan imports...

my brother worked on alfa romeo's and maserati's for a while. i've been around high end cars here and there, they've just never appealed to me, no matter what they cost.

Ultramaroon 09-12-2019 03:21 AM

I'd keep it. Great little machine. Why fuck with "just right?"

DwnShft2Xclr8 09-12-2019 03:38 AM

I would definitely keep the 86. I'd add a few Lamborghinis, like a Huracan, Murcielago LP640, and a Countach, to the stable.

Atmo 09-12-2019 03:59 AM

I don't own one any more but if I did, it would become a charity donation.

Then get a big hangar stocked with a few favorites from back in the day:

Lotus Super Seven, E-Type Coupe, DB5, Cobra 427 S/C, Miura, Ghibli, Mustang GT350, Daytona Coupe, FJ-40, El Camino 454, 240Z, 911S, and an even longer list of bikes from the same era.

DD would be something invisible to get to the hangar.

They'd all be parked around and underneath the new G36 NXi.

why? 09-12-2019 09:08 AM

Same reason you drive what you do now when you could afford more. Same reason truly wealthy people wear everyday clothes and daily drive every day cars. I grew up on Cape Cod in Mass, and I know I've talked to truly famous and wealthy people and had absolutely no idea. From the actual members of Aerosmith at a bookstore to people with more money than I'll ever have while I was picking up clothes from the cleaners. You can walk down streets with multi million dollar homes right on a river or the ocean and you can see these people that have a lot of money don't flaunt it. They have normal Accords or Camry's parked in their driveways.

I have so little clue I've actually been made fun of multiple times. I've literally been a foot away from people like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, etc, when I worked at Disney and had zero clue.

I worked in a town that was so uppity and wealthy the gas station in town had gas prices $2 a gallon higher just because they could. And it stayed in business.

The point is that wealthy people don't want you to know they are wealthy. They are not flashy or flamboyant. They stay wealthy because they spend their money wisely. There is a reason most famous sports stars end up bankrupt a few years after they retire.
