Subaru Coupe (version of FR-S/FT-86) Spotted Inside and Out! + New Interior Pic

3 Attachment(s)
Here's are the best photos yet of the Subaru Coupe version of the FR-S / FT-86 and the first interior photo! It appears very similar to the Scion/Toyota model but apparently with a different front-end design (as it's almost nearly covered for a reason).

The interior is also partially covered but it's clear that there's red stitching on the steering wheel and paddle shifters.

A great sign is that it's following the STI for testing / evaluation purposes :D

The Subaru coupe is expected to be RWD with 2+2 seating.

Updated with better look at interior:

OH YEAH, it's following the STI. Nice find hachi!

Praetendere 05-26-2011 06:03 PM

Sweet.

ichitaka05 05-26-2011 06:09 PM

4agze 05-26-2011 06:11 PM

hmmm no STI looking wing thats good, I wonder what front end look they are going for.

RRnold 05-26-2011 06:12 PM

Sweet, thanks for posting Hachi! :happy0180:

So the black wheel version is the Subie and the one with the body kit is the Toyota version? Now we have both varients testing... very interesting! :burnrubber:

ichitaka05 05-26-2011 06:13 PM

Also I totally was right on the door handle! Before the spy pics of these test cars I made a door handle just like that (just different position).

Toyota/Subaru, you own me more info :bellyroll:

ftw-86 05-26-2011 06:13 PM

Following an STI? Hmmm could it mean that we're getting an STI version of the FT86? YES!

Traum 05-26-2011 06:15 PM

I like that fat, chunky steering wheel!

xantonin 05-26-2011 06:16 PM

Am I missing something?

What confirmation is there to this that it is the Subaru version?

Neutral_Eyes 05-26-2011 06:16 PM

No flat bottom steering wheel? Flappy paddles? Bah.

I dig their antenna topper though.

It's following an STI? Would Toyota make it follow that?

OldSkoolToys 05-26-2011 06:19 PM

So from these pictures we can assume the Subaru version will be automatic and the FR-S will be manual?:bellyroll::bellyroll:

Sorry, I had to.

Random_Art 05-26-2011 06:20 PM

Oh no! Someone punched the 86 in the nose! the monster must be caught!

Hopefully they'll end up with something more sleek and less bulky. Those mirrors and door handles on the prototype are just too gargantuas!

Based on your analogy...

So that must mean since the Toyota version was following the Supra then the FT86 will get a _ _ _ _ _ version ;) :bellyroll:

Yes~~~ That STI is fastest lapping time at Nur out of all stock Impreza. Why not.

Again, Toyota/Subaru have teased us this long, why not :bellyroll:

colHolm 05-26-2011 06:22 PM

Nice find!!

OldSkoolToys 05-26-2011 06:28 PM

I'd venture to say that IS the STi wheel...they just covered the center to really not bring anymore unwanted speculation on this car.

or they went rallying around the gravel and broke the front bumper. :bellyroll:

ftw-86 05-26-2011 06:35 PM

So the exhaust is different... I wonder if it sounds different.

Ryephile 05-26-2011 06:37 PM

I love the shape of the double bubble IP. It looks elegant yet minimal, which is perfect. The steering wheel looks great too; dimpled leather and red stitching is always sporting.

I'd say after seeing that rough interior shot that my interest has increased even more. :)

chulooz 05-26-2011 06:38 PM

Head and tail lights look pretty cool, shame about the unnecessary dual exhaust.
Looking at those side mirrors I agree, they look big on that small car.

And Id guess its a subaru because it has subies 'go fast' tennis ball on the antenna.

There is definitely something going on behind those trashbags...like something is trying to escape. :bellyroll:

serialk11r 05-26-2011 06:41 PM

The taillights are different from the other one...they actually look better :O But I still prefer the old long & skinny ones on the concepts.

PAImportTuner 05-26-2011 06:43 PM

I said the Subaru variant was in CA, I got good information, someone kept telling me not uh it's toyota dist plates. :bellyroll:

OldSkoolToys 05-26-2011 06:45 PM

tail lights be the same brah

C-Bone 05-26-2011 06:45 PM

iff2mastamatt 05-26-2011 06:48 PM

& no, you're not the only one. I think few other ppl did

owsiu 05-26-2011 06:54 PM

Anyone notice the Subaru Get More Gs tennis ball on the suby antenna? :)

http://www.subaru.com/getmoregs/index.html

Aki 05-26-2011 06:57 PM

The Suby G ball is a hilarious and subtle clue about this being a Suby. Love it.

Was hoping the HVAC vents would be thin and sleek like the concept, and I really like what I'm seeing so far. Fat, stubby steering wheel is great too--I like how it doesn't have 500 different buttons and knobs on it, too.

jonnois 05-26-2011 07:01 PM

we must be getting close to an official annoucement for the production versions now

I noticed that yellow ball too, but I couldn't recall what it was from.

Do you mean the aero flippers in front of the rear tires? They're there to reduce aero drag on the rear tires. It appears they're more prominent on the G-ball tester because there's no massive glued-on body kit to distract you from it. ;)
