Scosche touchscreen A/C controller

Since the factory HVAC controls are not yet available for purchase, I found a interesting touchscreen alternative from Scosche. A rep from Scosche informed me that an A/C kit will be made available in 2-3 months, but they also said it could be pushed back further if it's not within Scosche standards.

Features:
  • Full color touchscreen A/C controller
  • Configurable for single and dual climate controls
  • Plugs directly into factory A/C harness
  • Painted and textured to match factory panels
  • Fits with double DIN or single DIN stereos
Example: Chevy Camaro dash kit w/ touch screen A/C controls

What do you think?

ImAwesome 08-02-2012 04:38 PM

never knew these were made, pretty cool but not sure about cost effectiveness?

DIREWOLF 08-02-2012 04:42 PM

I was searching for AC controls and their website came up on Google search. Anyone with first hand experiences with this A/C controller?

Nitro 08-02-2012 05:15 PM

If it looked good and was under $300 I would probably buy it.

tripjammer 08-02-2012 05:38 PM

Hell 2 da yeah! How much is it gonna cost?

ImAwesome 08-02-2012 05:38 PM

that set-up in the camaro with the dash panel and harness is $400

CBThib307 08-02-2012 05:41 PM

As long as it looks right I would get it. 400$ doesn't seem too bad.

SpeakBeck 08-02-2012 06:16 PM

We have installed them in the new Camaro's and Mustangs. They actually look much better than the Metra alternatives and work just fine.

|-Goku-| 08-03-2012 12:46 AM

This looks awesome, I would get it.

Norkoastal 08-03-2012 06:41 PM

This would look pretty good with a tablet/stereo swap if you could mount them end to end. kind of a Tesla "lite" setup. Makes getting the BRZ Premium less painful as the screen is 10x more slick than the Limited Dual climate controls.

I agree with you. I can't wait till it comes out

Mcdj18 08-08-2012 01:47 AM

This looks great! Interested in price, when it will be available, will it work seamlessly with our cars, reliability and quality of the screen. More info!!

Any idea if this is still on schedule to be released in the next month or so?

zoomzoomers 09-21-2012 06:40 PM

Not for me. There are certain controls/buttons in a car that I want tactile feel to. HVAC controls are one of them.

I'm usually in the same boat, but that's just how much I hate the FR-S controls.

Are they that bad? I've never really used the manual controls, but, other than the looks, don't they work as advertised?

MmmHamSandwich 09-21-2012 07:38 PM

Not for me. I need one knob for fan speed and one for temperature and a clearly labeled button that controls a/c. I'm one of those weirdos that dislikes auto climate control.

dualbios 10-02-2012 07:30 AM

i will be in for one

n2oinferno 10-02-2012 09:26 AM

I had no idea these were even an option....

I love technology! :D

My far left knob feels a little off, sometimes its smooth and sometimes it takes some extra effort to turn. Not a big deal but it is noticable.

NemeGuero 10-03-2012 03:49 PM

I like this.

neutron256 10-03-2012 04:16 PM

I don't like touch screens when driving. It's a destraction having to look at where to touch instead of just feeling for a button.

But the whole point of this is to have an "automatic" climate control system right? That means you're not really feeling for a button all the time.

OR

Is this just digitizing the controls (which then it's all just bling..)

I'm in for this is this turns out to be "automatic" like the BRZ Limited.

Gen 10-03-2012 05:36 PM

The picture seems to indicate you still retain physical buttons for temp and fan speed, so it just comes down to getting rid of tacky OEM controls.

NemeGuero 10-05-2012 12:13 PM

Any news from the rep?

NemeGuero 10-23-2012 03:31 PM

bump

2forme 10-23-2012 05:45 PM

I'm assuming this is for the non BRZ Limited 86's ... lol

NemeGuero 10-23-2012 06:23 PM

Could be for either.

Rayme 10-23-2012 06:25 PM

Nah, I like to be able to change those with a glimpse or without even looking.

Not to mention these sucks with gloves/mittens. It gets cold here!

Tambat 10-24-2012 05:16 AM

there are only two things keeping me from buying an frs instead of the brz.. the front bumper and those ridiculously cheap climate controls. i would prefer the seats of the brz-l but i can live without that. the two i mentioned earlier are things i just cannot overlook. that being said, if this kit were released for the frs and the setup was clean i would be leaning heavily towards buying the frs and just swap out the bumper in the future.

Mrqb22 10-24-2012 10:12 PM

do they have colors as far as illumination is concerned so we can try to at least to match it to some what with the interior lighting.

I read the earlier post sounded lik ethey where making one for our cars specifically but it has like 3 different colors as it is

Mrqb22 10-27-2012 11:23 PM

Any updates.....

NemeGuero 10-28-2012 08:21 PM

I PM'd the guy who made this poll but he said he hasn't heard anything back from the Scosche rep yet.

LIKEABOSS 11-26-2012 01:04 PM

Any update?

i_4got 11-26-2012 01:24 PM

So is this just a flashy touchscreen replacement for the HVAC controls? Or does it provide some other benefit?

TIE Pilot 01-24-2013 04:46 PM

Bump. Updates?

i had emailed scoche about this last week but didn't get any reply

Mrqb22 02-06-2013 01:48 AM

I called them twice and got two answers:

One rep told me he had no idea what I was talking about

Another rep told me that is was in development and should have more infomration on it towards the end of the month.

Mrqb22 02-07-2013 05:16 PM

I called again today and asked to speak to anyone in tech or r&d. They told me they are not going to make a digital or touch screen for the ac / heat controls. They said the only a plans they have is to make a dash kit using the stock ac/heater controls. This is a bummer. I hope this guy was wrong as this is third answer I have received from 3 different reps.

Maybe there is a way to get the panel from the brz to work. I am don't even care about the climate control I just like the way it looks. As long as you can use the a/c heat to work hi and low etc. Oh well.
