Taking car back to stock - can I use the upgraded MAP sensor with stock ECU tune?

Hey all,

I'm getting my car ready to trade-in and bringing it back to stock. It currently has the Vortech Supercharger kit on it and I can't find my stock MAP sensor (I have the Omni on it). Sure, I can order a new MAP sensor, but I thought I'd check to see if the stock tune would work with the upgraded sensor without trying to write a new stock tune for it that messes with multipliers and whatnot.

What say you all? Is it doable or am I buying a stock MAP sensor?

Thanks!

It won't even turn on the engine with upgraded map sensor and stock tune
you have to modify the stock tune's map sensor scaling for your exact map sensor and then you can use it

or find a stock map sensor

You'd just need to update the stock tune with the correct MAP sensor scaling, nothing else would need changing .

The stock tune will not work. The car will idle and drive like trash. You can modify the stock tune with the MAP sensor calibration though, it's incredibly simple.

It would probably be worth it to go back to stock, then sell the upgraded one with the supercharger.

In about 3 months from now:

"Hi Forum. I just bought a used BRZ and flashed the latest stock tune and now my car won't start. Any idea what is wrong?"

Just spend the few bucks for the stock sensor and as Tuna said recoup the cost in the sale of the system. Save everybody a headache down the road.

If I kept the MAP sensor in place I was going to include the tune and OFT married to it but yeah just going back to stock would be cleaner for everyone.

Thanks all!

For anyone else that needs a stock MAP sensor - found it at Autozone for $47.99! Unfortunately, it won't get here until July 5th and I'm doing the work this weekend so I'll likely have to modify the stock tune's scaling to handle the Omni 2.5 BAR in the meantime as this is still my daily until the new car comes in.

Thanks again!

On a trade in? Would be fine for private party. But not a dealer. And modifying the tune a dealer may flash ecu back to stock anyways. Or like Tcoat said someone buys it and they have issues not knowing what’s going on.

I'm making the shift to electric - Tesla Model 3 Performance. I won't be wrenching on cars anymore - I still have three motorcycles for that itch though...

Trade-in value is terrible. I'm trying to sell it on my own first. I actually was hoping I could find someone local who wanted the car with the mods but I don't see a lot of interest in that.

Probably going electric for the wife's next car.
I will stay internal combustion and manual tranny until they pry it from cold dead hands.

I know that's what he said, mrs Tcoat, but, don't you think it's time to bury or cremate him ?

He writes his own (really, not joking) and I have the password.

On an unrelated note do you know where you can buy quick lime in bulk?

I always wondered how he kept his job - :eyebulge:

I would suggest sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, it works faster.

Thanks again for the info guys - Autozone was able to get the stock MAP Sensor to me on Saturday so after spending 3 days taking everything off and putting stock stuff back on, the car is essentially back to original form (just gotta put the old wheels and head unit back on).

Some things are staying on as it'll be too much work to put back and I'm not sure I have original equipment anymore (OEM+ speaker/sub/amp system), LED lighting, and front/side/rear skirt.

It's amazing how quiet and underpowered the car feels now LOL. I had to get used to giving it more gas from a stop so as not to stall out the poor thing.

Anyway, it was an exhausting weekend, and now I'll have some used aftermarket parts to sell.
